As revealed by the leaks and now confirmed by the certification listings, the OnePlus Ace 5 (model number: PKG110) and Ace 5 Pro (model number: PKR110) share several specifications. The main differences between these devices lie in their chipsets, battery sizes, and charging capabilities.

OnePlus Ace 5, Ace 5 Pro specifications (rumored)

The OnePlus Ace 5 and Ace 5 Pro have a 6.78-inch flat AMOLED panel with a 1.5K resolution of 2780 x 1264 pixels. Possibly, both phones support a 120Hz refresh rate and have an optical-type in-screen fingerprint scanner. Like the OnePlus 13, the Ace 5 series is expected to ship with ColorOS 15-based Android 15.

According to the certification, the OnePlus Ace 5 and Ace 5 Pro run on 3.3GHz and 4.3GHz octa-core chipsets, which are the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and 8 Elite, respectively. Both phones are officially confirmed to arrive in five configurations: 12GB+256GB, 12GB+512GB, 16GB+256GB, 16GB+512GB, and 16GB+1TB.

The Ace 5 has a 6,285mAh rated value battery, and its typical value seems to be 6,400mAh. On the other hand, the Ace 5 Pro is backed by a dual-cell battery with a 2,970mAh rated value for one of its cells. Rumors have it that the Ace 5 Pro features a 6,100mAh (typical) value battery. As per reports, the standard model will support 80W charging, whereas the Pro variant may offer 100W charging.

The Ace 5 and Ace 5 Pro have a 16-megapixel camera for snapping selfies. Both devices have a 50-megapixel main camera coupled with 8-megapixel and 2-megapixel auxiliary cameras on the back. While the megapixel count appears the same on both models, it remains to be seen whether they come with different primary camera sensors. Both devices also feature an IR blaster.

The Ace 5 measures 161.72 x 75.77 x 8.02mm and weighs 206 grams, whereas the Ace 5 Pro has dimensions of 161.72 x 75.77 x 8.14mm and weighs 203 grams. While there is no information about the Ace 5’s IP rating, the Pro variant is confirmed to arrive with an IP65-rated chassis. It’s already known that the Ace 5 will be available in Gravitational Titanium, Full Speed Black, and Celestial Porcelain colors, whereas the Ace 5 Pro will be sold in options such as Moon White Porcelain, Submarine Black, and Starry Purple.

OnePlus will hold a launch event on Jan. 7 to unveil the 13 series. It is speculated that the OnePlus 13R, which launches alongside the OnePlus 13, will be a toned-down version of the Ace 5.

TOZO’s latest NC9 earbuds offer three-layer active noise cancellation, 32 audio preset profiles

Wireless earbuds have become an essential part of our everyday life. It combines portability with increasingly sophisticated features like active noise cancellation (ANC), transparency modes, and customizable audio profiles.

TOZO, an electronics brand based in Seattle, USA, has been contributing to this space since its establishment in 2015. The brand, known for its “Tech Around You” ethos, focuses on delivering intelligent wearable products with the latest technology at affordable prices.

The Tozo NC9 is a new product in their earbuds portfolio that delivers high-quality performance and user-friendly features without breaking the bank.

TOZO NC9 Specifications

The standout feature of the TOZO NC9 is its three-layer hybrid active noise cancellation system. The system employs outward-facing microphones to detect ambient noise and counter it with equal anti-noise.

Then, inward-facing microphones listen inside the ear canal to pick up internal sounds and produce anti-noise again to cancel the left noise twice. Last but not least, Tozo claims the bud’s ear caps block up to 90% of external sound.

The multi-layered approach ensures that the NC9 effectively isolates the outside world while you listen to your favorite artist. And for moments when there is a need to be aware of your surroundings, you can switch to Transparency Mode.

When it comes to audio, the NC9 offers 32 different audio preset profiles, allowing you to tailor the sound to your preferences. You can shuffle between these audio modes via the Tozo app which also allows you to create and share custom equalizer settings with other users. The app is also home to six different ANC profiles.

TOZO has integrated a suite of proprietary algorithms into the NC9 to elevate the music listening experience. These include:

  • TOZO OrigX: Ensures lifelike sound by compensating for frequency loss as sound passes through the ear canal, delivering audio closest to reality.
  • EarTune AI: Uses AI-powered auditory algorithms to personalize sound in real-time, optimizing audio sensitivity for a tailored and immersive experience.
  • TOZO Bass+: Features a high-rigidity composite dome and a flexible polymer diaphragm to produce clear highs and deep, powerful bass.
  • TOZO HydroGuard: Offers complete water protection with a fully sealed cavity design, paired with an IPX8 waterproof rating for reliable performance in wet conditions.
  • TOZO SmartPow: Monitors and controls power usage with ultra-low-power chips and intelligent management, ensuring accurate battery status updates on the high-definition display.

The NC9 earbuds are designed for convenience. Pairing them is as simple as opening the charging case—your device will detect and connect to the earbuds automatically. Equipped with Bluetooth 5.0, the NC9 ensures stable connectivity and low-latency performance for streaming and gaming.

The NC9 offers up to 14 hours of playback on a single charge, and the included charging case extends this to an impressive 59 hours. The case has a high-definition display that shows real-time updates on battery levels. And not to forget, the buds are IPX6 rated, so you can use them during workouts and light rain.

The Tozo NC9 earbud is currently available at an exciting discount price for a limited time via the Tozo official store and Amazon.

Qualcomm wins legal dispute over Arm chip licensing

Qualcomm has emerged victorious in a crucial court case against Arm Holdings, a British chip designer. The lawsuit centered on whether Qualcomm breached a licensing agreement after it acquired startup Nuvia in 2021. Nuvia’s chip designs were allegedly based on Arm’s technology, and Arm argued that Qualcomm should pay a higher royalty rate for using them after the acquisition.

Credit: geospatialworld

Qualcomm Wins, but Uncertainty Remains in Arm Lawsuit

The jury ultimately sided with Qualcomm on the most critical issue, ruling that the company’s central processor chips were properly licensed under its agreement with Arm. This is a significant win for Qualcomm as it paves the way for the company to continue selling its chips, including those that incorporate Nuvia’s technology.

However, the verdict wasn’t entirely clean-cut. The jury couldn’t reach a unanimous decision on whether Nuvia itself breached its licensing terms with Arm before being acquired by Qualcomm. This leaves some uncertainty hanging over the case, and it’s possible that this aspect could be retried in the future.

Judge Maryellen Noreika, who presided over the case, encouraged both parties to mediate their dispute to avoid another trial. “I don’t think either side had a clear victory or would have had a clear victory if this case is tried again,” Noreika remarked.

Despite the mixed verdict, the outcome is a relief for Qualcomm. The company’s stock price rose 1.8% in after-hours trading following the news. Arm, on the other hand, saw its shares dip by 1.8% in extended trading.

The legal battle between Qualcomm and Arm has been closely watched by the tech industry, as it has implications for the broader chip market. Arm licenses its chip designs to numerous companies, including many of Qualcomm’s competitors. The outcome of this case could set a precedent for future licensing agreements between Arm and its partners.

Huawei Pura 70 Ultra gets huge price cut with a new 12GB+512GB storage option

Huawei has announced a major price reduction for its flagship Pura 70 Ultra smartphone, further enhancing its appeal to consumers seeking premium features at a more accessible price. As part of this move, the company has introduced a new 12GB RAM + 512GB storage variant priced at an attractive 7,499 yuan ($1,027), lowering the entry point for high-end performance.

Huawei Pura 70 Ultra

Huawei Drops Pura 70 Ultra Price

Previously available only in 16GB RAM configurations, the addition of the 12GB RAM option maintains the device’s signature sleek design and specs. The price cut coincides with Huawei’s year-end promotions, making it an excellent time to invest in one of the market’s leading smartphones.

Since its launch earlier this year, the Pura 70 Ultra has earned widespread acclaim for its innovative design and exceptional imaging capabilities. The device has consistently ranked among the top performers in its segment, with reports indicating it has already surpassed 10 million units in global shipments.

In addition to the new variant, Huawei has also reduced the prices of the existing 16GB RAM models. The 16GB + 512GB version is now available for 7,999 yuan ($1,096), down from its original price of 8,999 yuan ($1,233), while the top-tier 16GB + 1TB model is now priced at 8,999 yuan ($1,233), a significant drop from 9,999 yuan ($1,370).

The price reductions are not limited to the Ultra model. Huawei has extended similar discounts to other smartphones in the Pura 70 series, offering consumers a wide range of options to upgrade their devices at competitive prices. The Pura 70 series is also fully compatible with the upcoming HarmonyOS Next update, making it a compelling choice for Chinese users.

In terms of specs, the Pura 70 Ultra features a 6.8″ OLED LTPO display with a 120Hz refresh rate, FHD+ resolution, and advanced color and dimming technologies. The rear camera system includes a 50MP retractable lens, 40MP ultra-wide, and 50MP macro telephoto, while the front camera is a 13MP ultra-wide lens. It is powered by a 5200mAh battery that supports 100W wired and 80W wireless fast charging with reverse charging capabilities.

6 Things to know before you buy the Vivo X200 Pro

Vivo X200 Pro smartphone

Vivo’s latest flagship, the X200 Pro, has just arrived outside China, and it’s already making big headlines. It has the best camera setup on any Vivo smartphone, combined with the powerful Dimensity 9400 chipset, making it a solid package overall. However, not everything is sunshine and rainbows about this Vivo phone, as it lacks greatness in several areas.

In case you’re looking to buy the Vivo X200 Pro, make sure to read these 6 critical points to ensure you’re making the right decision.

1. Premium look and feel

The design hasn’t changed much from its predecessor, the X100 Pro, but minor adjustments have improved the aesthetics and premium-ness. The camera cluster is a little bigger, taking more space on the back. It’s a heavy phone weighing 223g, but that’s a norm with high-end phones nowadays as they pack additional hardware. It’s the same size as the Galaxy S24 Ultra and, in fact, slightly lighter than the iPhone 16 Pro Max. In fact, the X200 Pro is more comfortable to hold than these two.

Keeping up with trends, Vivo is also making the side aluminum rails more sizable and flatter, as Samsung and Apple have been doing with their last few generations. And with IP68 and IP69 ratings (yes, both), the X200 Pro is better sealed than the majority of smartphones.

Please Note: When you buy something using the links in our articles, we may earn a small commission at no cost to you.

2. Excellent display and battery

Vivo X200 Pro display

The X200 Pro rocks an excellent LTPO display that you’ll find nothing to complain about. It’s bright (peaks at 4500 nits) and supports a 120Hz refresh rate. What’s more exciting is that the screen refresh rate can go as low as 0.1Hz to save extra power. There’s also 2160Hz PWM dimming for comfortable viewing at low brightness.

The 6.78-inch OLED screen shows punch colors. The text appears sharp. Even for gaming and media consumption, it’s a great display and probably the best Vivo has to offer. Not to forget, the X200 Pro supports all major HDR video standards, including HDR10+ and Dolby Vision (lacking on the X100 Pro). Streaming platforms like Netflix and Prime Video lets you enjoy FullHD streams thanks to the Widevine L1 certification.

The battery is another big plus point for the X200 Pro. It easily lasts more than a day on a single charge, and with moderate usage, you can stretch it to two days. That’s a 6,000mAh battery capacity, by the way. The device ships with 90W charging support, which only takes about 45 minutes to reach 100%. There’s also 30W wireless charging support.

3. Smooth performance

Vivo X200 Pro performance

The Vivo X200 Pro is rocking the Dimensity 9400, which is MediaTek’s most powerful mobile chipset. It smoothly handles all everyday tasks, such as browsing, scrolling, and streaming. Even high-end games, such as Genshin Impact and Diablo Immortal, run swiftly without any lag. However, the phone gets a little hot, especially when playing high-end games or software.

Vivo X200 Pro is indeed a powerful smartphone that delivers excellent performance. However, it remains behind the Snapdragon 8 Elite phones such as iQOO 13 and Realme 7 Pro on benchmarks. Read our Snapdragon 8 Elite vs Dimensity 9400 comparison here.

4. Great cameras (with some flaws)

vivo x200 pro hands on 11
Vivo X200 Pro

The biggest upgrade for the Vivo X200 Pro is its telephoto camera. It’s a 200MP Samsung ISOCELL HP9 sensor with 3.7x optical zoom, the same sensor from Vivo X100 Ultra that impressed everyone with its zoom shots. The telephoto camera takes nice, detailed shots with accurate colors and dynamic range. Portrait shots are also excellent, though.

Vivo has made a significant change to the X200 Pro’s primary camera. It has got a new sensor, Sony Lytia LYT-818, but that’s a smaller one at 1/1.28-inch (vs. 1-inch on the X100 Pro). It seems like a compromise to fill the gaps with an Ultra model (we’re not sure if X100 Ultra is coming, but it seems so). However, the outputs are excellent in daylight, showing the right exposure and dynamic range. The colors are also acurate and so are the details.

Low-light shots with the portrait sensor are also fantastic, leaving no room for improvement. Macro shots are also too good, with great amount of details and accurate colors. However, the ultrawide camera isn’t as good as I expected. While it brings good colors and dynamic range, the shots are not very sharp. The output quality doesn’t match that of the primary or telephoto sensor.

The selfie camera is another weak area of the X200 Pro. The photos don’t have lots of details, and the lack of autofocus is also not a good thing for a flagship phone. It’s the same sensor from the X100 Pro. It would have been a better choice to include the X100 Ultra’s selfie sensor.

The bottom line is that Vivo X200 Pro has excellent cameras, overall. You won’t probably find such great camera phone at this price point.

5. Improved but still filled with bloatware

The Vivo X200 Pro boots Android 15 out of the box, with a layer of Funtouch OS 15 skin at the top. That’s a plus point, considering many recent flagships were released with Android 14. Vivo has promised 4 years of Android OS updates and 5 years of security updates for the X200 Pro, the best Vivo has to offer but not the best of all brands. Samsung and Google offer 7 years of Android updates.

The software is more polished and smooth, thanks to Funtouch OS 15 optimizations. It feels snappier, and there are plenty of new features and customizations as well. However, the bloatware is still there. You still get plenty of unnecessary apps pre-installed on the device, though most can be removed manually.

6. Pricing and best offers

After an October launch in China, the Vivo X200 Pro recently entered the global market, including India.

The X200 Pro with 16GB RAM, 512GB storage is currently available for Rs. 94,999. With bank offers, you can bring the price down to Rs. 85,499. You can also ship it to the US and more parts of the world via Giztop and other retailers for $849.

It will have added ECG functionality to further elevate the health tracking capabilities of the Watch 3, allowing it to compete with premium models like the Samsung Galaxy Watch and Apple Watch. However, market-specific health certifications may limit its availability.

Another standout feature of the Watch 3 could be LTE connectivity, enabling the device to operate independently from a smartphone. This would allow users to make calls, receive notifications, and stream music without needing a paired phone. However, this feature may initially be restricted to certain markets, with China being a likely first destination.

The report also suggests that the Watch 3 could pack a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 processor, paired with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The report suggests that the watch will have a 500mAh battery, however, a previous FCC certification has claimed that it will feature a larger 631mAh battery. Like its predecessor, it will run on a dual OS setup of WearOS and RTOS.

The previous FCC listing has also claimed the OnePlus Watch 3, with model number OPWWE251 will measure 46.6 x 47.6 x 11.75mm, making it slightly larger than last year’s model. Since it has picked up the FCC certification, we can expect a global launch soon. More details are expected to emerge in the coming days, so stay tuned.

As per Notebookcheck, Samsung has made a response on the matter stating that “the company is investigating the user reports and possible warranty claims will be reviewed individually. Further information will be shared as soon as possible.

The original story continues…

Samsung Galaxy S22 users are reporting serious issues following the One UI 6.1 update. Samsung Galaxy S22 alternatives

Key Issues Reported

  1. Boot Loop Failures: Many users have reported that their phones are stuck in continuous boot loops, making them unusable. Attempts to resolve the issue, including clearing caches, factory resets, and technical visits, have proven ineffective.
  2. Wi-Fi Triggered Restarts: Some devices restart repeatedly when Wi-Fi is turned on. This issue persists even after resetting network settings, entering safe mode, and factory resets.
  3. High Repair Costs: Samsung’s service centers have reportedly attributed the failures to motherboard defects. However, many users have been denied warranty repairs due to minor cosmetic damage, such as superficial screen cracks. Repair costs quoted are exorbitant, ranging from ₹41,000 (~$483) in India to over $600 in the UK.

User Reactions

  • Case 1: A loyal S22 Ultra owner, whose device failed post-update, described their frustration over losing valuable data and facing repair costs of ₹41,000 in India.
  • Case 2: A UK user criticized Samsung for blaming minor screen damage for the boot loop issue. They questioned how devices without damage were also affected, labeling the company’s response as shifting blame.

Among several examples, an S22 Ultra user shared a video on X (formerly Twitter) showing their device stuck in a boot loop. They claim the service center identified it as a motherboard issue, despite the device having no physical damage.

Samsung’s Response Pending

While Samsung has yet to issue an official statement, the reported issues suggest a significant software-related defect. Users have expressed disappointment in the brand’s lack of accountability, especially given the premium pricing of the Galaxy S22 series. Calls for Samsung to provide free repairs or refunds are growing as more users voice their grievances online. We’ll monitor the situation closely and provide updates as they emerge.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim could be less than 7mm in thickness: Report

After several years of routine updates to Samsung‘s flagship smartphones, the upcoming Galaxy S25 lineup promises a refreshing change. Rumors indicate that Samsung may introduce the Galaxy S25 Slim next year, with a recent report offering insights into just how thin the device might be.

As per reliable tipster Ice Universe, the Galaxy S25 Slim could be as thin as 6.X mm, significantly slimmer than the standard S24’s 7.6 mm. This puts it in competition with Apple’s rumored iPhone 17 Air, which is also expected to be extremely thin. While details are unclear on how Samsung plans to achieve this slimmer design without affecting hardware, battery life, or cooling, the use of silicon-carbon anode battery technology could be a possibility.

Samsung Galaxy S25 camera sensor leak

For those unaware, Silicon-carbon anode technology improves smartphone batteries by increasing energy density, enabling longer battery life or slimmer designs. It also offers improved heat management. In addition to that, the device could use the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, which has been proven to be quite efficient and runs relatively cooler compared to its predecessors.

Previous reports have claimed that the Galaxy S25 Slim will come with a 200MP main camera using Samsung’s new Isocell HP5 sensor, which is smaller than the HP2 sensor in the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Complementing the primary camera, the device is expected to feature two 1/2.76″ 50MP Isocell JN5 sensors for ultrawide and 3.5x telephoto capabilities, promising sharper zoom performance.

Samsung’s Advanced Lens on Plastic (ALoP) technology will be utilized to reduce camera assembly thickness without sacrificing optical quality. With Samsung reportedly preparing to launch the Galaxy S25 series on January 22, 2025, we can expect more details to arrive on the Galaxy S25 Slim, and other S25 series devices in the coming days, so stay tuned.

Every Key Features Missing on the Realme 14x

The Realme 14x was just unveiled in the Indian market. While it boasts some impressive specs and features, it’s not all good news. For its price range, offerings from other brands have an edge in certain specifications. These are particularly noticeable in areas like the display. So let’s have a look.

Realme 14x with IP69 rating

1. What Realme 14x Gets Right

Before we get into what it skips out on, first let’s see what Realme 14x gets right. The brand packs a massive 6,000mAh battery pack, which is a sizeable capacity for its class. There is also support for 45W wired fast charging. For just 14,999 INR (roughly 176 US Dollars), you get a military-grade MIL-STD 810H certification, a “Free Call” feature that allows users to make calls without a network, and AI powered camera features like “AI Clear Face”.

Realme placed a great emphasis on the design and you get an IP68/IP69 rating for water and dust resistance. You get protection against water immersion and high expression water sprays, which isn’t a common feature at this price. So now, let’s see what they get wrong.

2. Performance

Under the hood, the Realme 14x is equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 SoC. This isn’t particularly a weak chipset, but there are other smartphones that offer better specifications. Great examples of this include the POCO M7 Pro 5G, which is powered by the Dimensity 7025 Ultra chipset. There is also the iQOO Z9x that packs the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1, offering faster performance. In most scenarios, this wouldn’t affect the user, but the difference would be noticeable if you play games on your phone or perform other intensive tasks.

3. Display

One area where the Realme 14x disappoints in particular is the display department. The smartphone sports a 6.67-inch IPS LCD screen that offers a 120Hz refresh rate. However, it only offers HD+ resolution (1604 x 720). At this price, we now have many options with much better display specifications.

The HMD Crest is another device that comes to mind. It has a 6.67-inch OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and FHD+ resolution. Similarly, the POCO M7 Pro 5G also features a 6.67-inch OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and FHD+ resolution. So it’s clear that the resolution and display type is a letdown. Even if there is an LCD panel, you still get a higher resolution and a brighter screen.

4. Camera

You’re not getting a versatile camera setup for this budget, but the Realme 14x only offers a single 50MP camera on the back. It looks like there are more sensors, although that isn’t the case. For selfies and video calls, you get an 8MP camera on the front. There are options like the Redmi Note 13, which offers better camera specifications. The main sensor is a 108MP shooter, which is paired with an 8MP ultra wide angle lens, and a 2MP depth sensor.

Why You Should Consider Buying Gaming Consoles

Gaming consoles have been a staple in the entertainment industry, offering a unique and immersive experience that other avenues can’t offer. But with a wide variety of gaming platforms available, you might wonder if a gaming console is the right choice for you. So here’s a reason why you should really consider buying a gaming console.

Sony PS5 Pro
Sony PS5 Pro

1. Casual Gaming

If you enjoy gaming occasionally and prefer a platform that is easy to use, gaming consoles are an excellent choice. Unlike gaming PCs, which may require some technical knowledge for setup and future upgrades, consoles are plug-and-play devices. You can buy pre-built PCs, but consoles simply have a more user-friendly interface and offer a wide variety of games, from action-adventures games to family-friendly titles. Popular consoles like the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch cater to casual gamers with their diverse libraries.

2. Budget-Conscious Gamers

Consoles can be expensive but often sell for good deals or have an attractive price tag in the second hand market. PCs are more flexible and range from entry level to NASA level computing. However, consoles usually have a set price that makes them more approachable. So if you aren’t a hardcore gamer and just want to occasionally enjoy high fidelity titles like Uncharted 4, these are the perfect gaming rigs. One can even save more money by just gaming on their smartphones but the experience isn’t that immersive.

3. Families and Social Gamers

Nintendo cracked the code many years ago, bringing gaming to social circles. Imagine board games but reimagined with gaming consoles. The Nintendo Switch is a great example, offering a wide range of family-friendly games like Mario Kart. Similarly, other consoles also have multiplayer games that are perfect for group activities. Nintendo is a clear winner in this regard thanks to its unique controllers.

4. Exclusive Titles

Leaving everything I said above aside, one of the reasons there was a “console war” is simply because of the exclusives. Microsoft with its Xbox, Sony with the PlayStation, and Nintendo with its Switch (and other consoles) all launched with games that were locked to their consoles. This meant that fans of popular franchises like Halo, The Legend of Zelda, and The Last of US. While most of these titles are now available on the PC, Nintendo still has an iron grip on its games.

5. Laidback Yet Immersive

Console gaming is synonymous with a couch and TV. You aren’t sitting up straight in front of a desk while gaming on your PC/laptop (not always the case), rather, you’re laying back on the couch with a TV in front of you. Frames per second don’t really matter to you and all you want to do is fire up a game and immerse yourself in the fictional universe. A console like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X can take advantage of 4K TVs for visually stunning experience.

6. Conclusion

Gaming consoles are a versatile and accessible option for a wide range of players. Whether you’re a casual gamer or a big fan of exclusive titles, consoles offer something for everyone. Their accessibility, ease of use, and diverse game libraries make them an attractive choice if you can look past some of their minor frustrations.

OnePlus Ace 5’s complete design and color options confirmed in official video

The performance-centric OnePlus Ace 5 series is set to debut in China on December 26. The phone has now appeared on the company’s official website revealing its color options: cyan, titanium, and black. Notably, the cyan variant will feature a premium ceramic back panel, while the titanium and black variants will come with a traditional glass back. This diversity in materials adds a layer of sophistication to the lineup, appealing to a wide range of users.

The official renders also confirm the shift to a flat design with a flat display, alongside the iconic circular camera island on the back, which houses a triple-camera setup. While OnePlus has not provided detailed specifications for the cameras, leaks suggest a 50 MP primary sensor, paired with an 8 MP ultrawide and a 2 MP macro lens. This combination aims to deliver versatility in photography.

Display and performance expectations

Rumors indicate that the Ace 5 will sport a 6.78-inch BOE X2 8T LTPO AMOLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate. This ensures smooth scrolling and an immersive visual experience. The flat panel design, coupled with premium materials like ceramic and glass, hints at a blend of aesthetics and functionality.

Under the hood, the OnePlus Ace 5 is confirmed to run on a custom-tuned Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. This processor, tailored for enhanced gaming and multitasking, positions the device as a performance powerhouse. The Ace 5 Pro, a more advanced sibling in the series, will reportedly feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite (like the flagship OnePlus 13), catering to those seeking even higher performance.

Global launch and availability

The global release of the OnePlus 13R is scheduled for January 7, 2025, though it’s unclear if the color options will remain the same for the OnePlus 13R. With its compelling blend of style, performance, and gaming capabilities, the OnePlus Ace 5 is poised to make a strong impression on the market in 2025.

Can you trust Motorola phones for gaming?

Motorola gaming smartphone

Motorola makes some really good phones. Their eye-catching design preferences, especially for the Edge series, always have my attention. Most of them bring excellent value for the money, making them a great choice for the majority. However, there is always a big question mark on whether Motorola phones are reliable partner for gaming on-the-go?

The mobile gaming industry has had a historic rise in recent years. This has also led to many technological advancements, making them stand against PC gaming. Currently valued at around $100 billion, the mobile gaming industry is expected to hit approximately $119 billion in value by 2027 with a compound annual growth rate of 6.39%, per Statista.

Asus ROG and Nubia’s Red Magic are the leading brands in smartphone gaming. But where does Motorola stand on the chart? Let’s look at various factors to determine if you can trust Motorola phones for your gaming needs.

Chipset

Choosing the right chipset is the most crucial part as it defines the processing limits of a device. The Moto E-lineup consists of entry-level phones with not-so-powerful chipsets but they can smoothly run everyday tasks. They are not suitable for gaming.

The Moto G-series is also not gaming-friendly, but there are some phones like the Moto G75 (Snapdragon 6 Gen 3), Moto G85 (Snapdragon 6s Gen 3), and Moto G55 (Dimensity 7025) with decent mid-range chips to offer a smoother gaming experience in popular titles like PUBG Mobile, Pokemon Unite, and Call of Duty: Mobile, though not at extreme settings.

The Edge and Razr lineups are where you’ll find the most powerful chips in Motorola phones. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is the most powerful chip right now for Motorola phones, powering the Razr+ (2024) (aka Razr 50 Ultra) and Edge 50 Ultra running the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip. While it’s a flagship chip, there exist better options with more powerful CPU and GPU, such as Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Snapdragon 8 Elite, but Motorola is yet to bring phones with those chips.

So, Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is the best you can get on a Motorola phone. It’s a solid choice for most people, but those looking for the best smartphone gaming experience should go with a more powerful chip, such as Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Snapdragon 8 Elite, or Dimensity 9400.

Cooling mechanism

With a lot of processing comes a large amount of heat, and that’s when the cooling system comes into play. Phones with advanced cooling systems, such as vapor chambers or heat pipes, can efficiently manage heat and let users enjoy a prolonged gaming session without performance drops.

Even if you have a device with a flagship chipset but mediocre heat management, it may struggle with high-end games, as it will reduce performance upon reaching a high temperature. Unfortunately, most Motorola phones lack a powerful cooling system. Motorola Edge 50 is one of them, having a vapor chamber.

So, the bottom line is that Motorola doesn’t focus on bringing the best gaming experience. However, that doesn’t mean they are too bad at gaming. You can still enjoy most of the high-end games out there.

Software and gaming features

Motorola phones offer a near-stock Android experience, and that’s great. They are not bloated with unnecessary apps, unlike most brands. So, having limited apps means more free RAM and storage, which means more resources for your favorite games.

I like the clean software experience on Motorola phones, but they lack some gaming features you’ll find on other gaming devices. They come with Moto Gametime gaming suite that includes features like Block calls, Block notifications, Locked mode (turns off system navigation, gestures, quick settings), High performance (allocates more resources to the game), Screenshot, Screen record, and Acoustic light (adds visual effects to your gaming experience).

Motorola phones also have the RAM boost feature for faster app launches and seamless app transitions.

Verdict

Motorola smartphones offer a well-rounded experience with their clean software, eye-catching designs, and decent performance. However, when it comes to gaming, they fall short of being the ultimate choice. While the Edge and Razr series pack capable hardware, they lack advanced cooling systems and gaming-specific features that further limits their appeal for hardcore gamers.

That said, if you’re a casual gamer who values a clean Android experience and doesn’t push games to their absolute limits, Motorola phones can still meet your needs. But if gaming performance is your top priority, you’re better off exploring options with more powerful chipsets and advanced thermal management systems.

It measures 8.24mm in thickness and weighs 215 grams, which is impressive considering the powerful hardware packed inside.

The iconic “Cosmos Ring” design element returns, encircling the quad-camera setup on the back. The lenses are arranged symmetrically for a balanced aesthetic, with the Hasselblad “H” logo prominently displayed in the centre. Notably, Oppo has significantly reduced the camera bump compared to its predecessor, making the phone more comfortable to hold and use.

Apart from the Space Black edition, the Find X8 Pro is available in a Pearl White option. With its IP68 rating, the X8 Pro can handle being submerged in 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes, offering solid protection against everyday water damage.

It is bright, vibrant, and incredibly sharp, offering a fantastic viewing experience for multimedia content and everyday use. The bezels around the display are minimal, maximizing the screen-to-body ratio and providing an immersive visual experience.

The dual speakers on the Find X8 Pro deliver rich and balanced stereo sound, further enhancing the multimedia experience. Whether you’re listening to music, watching videos, or playing games, the audio quality is impressive, with dual stereo speakers that deliver rich and balanced sound, enhancing the overall multimedia experience.

3. Performance and Software

Oppo Find X8 Pro on AnTuTu, Geekbench, CPU Throttle benchmarking apps
  • Dimensity 9400
  • LPDDR5x RAM | UFS 4.0
  • Variants: 16GB+512GB
  • Android 15 | ColorOS 15
  • 5,910mAh battery | 80W wired charging
  • 50W magnetic wireless charging | 10W reverse wireless charging

The Find X8 Pro is one of the first phones to feature the 3nm MediaTek Dimensity 9400. This chipset delivers exceptional performance with significant improvements in CPU and GPU speeds compared to its predecessor. The phone comes with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage, ensuring smooth multitasking and ample space for apps and files.

The Find X8 Pro packs a substantial 5,910mAh silicon-carbon battery that easily lasts a full day of heavy use. When it’s time to recharge, the 80W SuperVOOC fast charging technology quickly tops up the battery, minimizing downtime. The device can go from 0 to 100 percent in around 50 minutes. Additionally, the X8 Pro supports 50W wireless charging for added convenience. The device manages to stay cool even during extensive use for photo or video recording and gaming, with no significant issues reported.

On the software front, the Find X8 Pro runs ColorOS 15 based on Android 15. ColorOS 15 brings a refreshed design, smoother animations, and a host of new features. The user interface is clean and intuitive, offering a pleasant user experience. The only letdown in the software department is the presence of numerous preloaded apps, many of which can be uninstalled. On the positive side, Oppo has promised five years of Android OS upgrades and six years of security updates for X8 Pro users. The above shows how the device performs on benchmarking platforms.

4. Camera and Other Features

Oppo Find X8 Pro
Oppo Find X8 Pro
  • Front: 32MP Sony IMX615
  • Rear: 50MP Sony LYT-808 wide camera with OIS
  • 50MP Samsung S5KJN5 ultra-wide camera with autofocus
  • 50MP Sony LYT-600 periscope telephoto with 3x optical zoom and OIS
  • 50MP Sony IMX858 telephoto with 6x optical zoom and OIS

The Find X8 Pro’s versatile camera system offers incredible versatility and zoom range, from 15mm to over 300mm. While it doesn’t inherit the 1-inch sensor of the Find X7 Ultra, it compensates with a versatile setup that excels in various situations.

Speaking of the individual cameras, the main camera captures stunningly detailed images with accurate colours and excellent dynamic range, making it ideal for everyday photography. The ultra-wide camera, often a weak point in smartphone systems, is surprisingly good on the Find X8 Pro. It delivers sharp images with minimal distortion, even at the edges, and maintains consistent colour and exposure with the main sensor. This makes it a genuinely useful tool for capturing expansive landscapes or group shots.

Oppo’s zoom capabilities are particularly noteworthy. While it may not have the 10x optical zoom of some previous Samsung models, the Find X8 Pro excels in the quality and usability of its zoom. The 3x periscope telephoto camera produces sharp and detailed images, making it perfect for portraits or capturing subjects at a moderate distance.

The 6x telephoto, while having a smaller aperture, still delivers impressive results, especially in good lighting conditions. The transition between these lenses is smooth and almost imperceptible, and the images remain sharp and detailed even at higher magnifications. The digital zoom is one of the major strengths of the Find X8 Pro. As can be seen below, with AI working in the background, the 120x zoomed shots retain good clarity and are quite usable.

The camera’s post-processing adds a pleasing level of depth, contrast, and sharpness to images, resulting in a vibrant and engaging look. This approach contrasts with the brighter, more neutral style favoured by some competitors, offering a different aesthetic that may appeal to those seeking a more impactful image straight out of the camera.

In low-light conditions, the Find X8 Pro continues to impress. Its night mode captures detailed images with well-managed noise and excellent dynamic range. The phone intelligently handles various lighting situations, producing consistently good results without requiring the user to manually adjust settings.

The Find X8 Pro’s camera also excels in video recording, offering 4K resolution at 60fps and a range of slow-motion options. The video quality is consistently high across all lenses, with good detail, accurate colours, and effective stabilization.

And let’s not forget the front-facing camera. The 32-megapixel selfie camera captures detailed and well-exposed self-portraits with good colour accuracy and dynamic range. While it lacks autofocus, it generally produces pleasing results, making it suitable for both casual selfies and video calls.

Beyond the hardware, the Find X8 Pro introduces some innovative features to enhance the user experience. The Quick Button, a haptic-sensitive control on the side of the phone, offers a fast and intuitive way to launch the camera and control basic functions like zoom and shutter release. While not as feature-rich as Apple’s Camera Control, it provides a convenient alternative to on-screen controls, bringing the phone closer to the feel of a traditional camera. However, I did not prefer using it quite often. Rather, I prefer to slide zoom-wheel out using my thumb and switch betwen zoom options.

The Oppo Find X8 Pro comes with other notable features, such as an x-axis linear motor, NFC, studio-level quad microphones, a USB 3.2 Gen 1 (USB-C) port, AI LinkBoost, triple Wi-Fi 7 antenna, NFC, and an alert slider.

5. Verdict and Competitors

Oppo Find X8 Pro

Oppo Find X8 Pro Price in India

The Oppo Find X8 Pro is a compelling flagship smartphone that excels in almost every area. Its sleek design, powerful performance, long-lasting battery, and exceptional camera system make it a top contender in its class. The phone’s focus on photography, particularly with its Hasselblad collaboration and telescopic zoom capabilities, sets it apart from the competition.

The Oppo Find X8 Pro has arrived in the following options:

  • 16GB+512GB: Rs 99,999 (~$1,180)

The Find X8 Pro is Oppo’s direct answer to the Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max. The handset will also face competition from the upcoming Vivo X200 Pro, OnePlus 13, Honor Magic 7 Pro, and Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. While some of these competitors are already available in China, except for Vivo’s offering, other flagship phones are yet to be released in the global market.
