FCC certificate reveals upcoming Pixel 9 will be larger than the predecessor

The new details on Google’s upcoming Pixel 9 series continue to surface. Previously, real-life images revealed the design of Pixel 9 series. Now, the Pixel 9 series has received FCC certification and Canada’s REL certification.

According to the latest details shared by MySmartPrice, both the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro have hardware versions identified as GUR25 and GEC77. You can think of these as simple model numbers.

The newly surfaced certificates confirm that the Pixel 9 Pro (GEC77), Pixel 9 Pro XL (GZC4K), and Pixel 9 Pro Fold (GGH2X) feature 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, UWB, 5G, and thread radio connectivity.

FCC certification reveals that the regular Google Pixel 9 (GUR25) has dimensions of 152.8mm x 72mm. Considering that Pixel 8’s dimensions are 150.5mm x 70.8mm, we can say that Pixel 9 is a little bit larger than its predecessor. Google is good at making compact smartphones, but they are not tiny enough as Samsung’s regular models in S lineup, the S24 for instance.

Google will be releasing two Pro models, the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL, marking three years since the introduction of the initial Pro smartphone with Pixel 6 series in 2021.

Xiaomi’s 20,000mAh compact power bank is now available in space blue color

Xiaomi launched a 20,000mAh power bank with built-in cable back in April this year. However, the product was only available in a single light brown color option. Now, the deep space blue color is also on sale for 159 Yuan (~$22).

The 20,000mAh compact power bank gets a new space blue color option

This power bank can reach up to 33W of charging speed with a compatible Xiaomi phone. It also supports two-way fast charging with a maximum power of 30W, saving self-charging time.

It comes with a built-in USB-C cable. For power output, the product has two Type-C ports and a Type-A port, all of which can be used to charge three devices at once. Notably, it can offer a maximum of 33W output. The output configuration is listed below.

  • OUT1: 5V-3A, 9V-3A, 11V-3A, 12V-2.5A, 15V-2A, 20V-1.5A MAX
  • OUT2: 5V-3A, 9V-3A, 11V-3A, 12V-2.5A, 15V-2A, 20V-1.5A MAX
  • OUT3: 5V-3A, 9V-2.23A, 10V 2.25A, 12V-1.67A MAX

The dimension of the product is 154.5 x 73.9 x 27.8mm, and it packs a 20,000mAh (rated capacity 12000mAh) battery inside. Reportedly, it contains two 10,000 mAh Li-Ion batteries on the inside and a safety system that adjusts the output power for various devices. With the security mechanism in place, users can safely charge low power low-power devices such as TWS earphones with this power bank.

The body of the power bank is made of PC+ABS material. The product comes with rounded corners and is comfortable to hold.

Wear OS 5 prepares for UWB and Bluetooth LE Audio, Pixel Watch 3 likely first to feature

Google is anticipated to launch its upcoming Pixel Watch 3 series in August, alongside the Pixel 9 series. Numerous details about the watch were revealed earlier this week.

The upcoming watch is expected to feature the long-awaited ultra-wideband (UWB) capability, as evidenced by its recent appearance on the FCC.

Google Pixel Watch 2

Now Mishaal Rahman from Android Authority discovered a hidden UWB toggle in the May Wear OS 5 Developer Preview while digging Wear OS 5. The toggle’s description states that it “helps identify the relative position of nearby devices that have UWB.” This finding confirms that the upcoming Wear OS watches will be able to utilize this feature.

Set for an August release, the Pixel Watch 3 will likely debut this feature. UWB offers superior precision in location tracking, an advantage over GPS, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi, especially in small, battery-powered wearables. UWB’s accuracy in determining the distance and direction between devices makes it a valuable addition, already used in item trackers and by car manufacturers.

The Wear OS developer preview also hints at support for Bluetooth LE Audio, first introduced in Android 13 for single-source, single-receiver audio transmission. With Android 15, Google might be enhancing this to support multi-device audio streaming. This means the supported watch could stream audio to multiple Bluetooth LE Audio-compatible headphones simultaneously.

Currently, no smartwatch offers Bluetooth LE Audio support. The Pixel Watch 3 could be the first to include this feature.

Google’s next Pixel Watch is rumored to address user complaints about the previous versions. The Pixel Watch 3 is expected to come in two sizes, 41mm and 45mm, with cellular and WiFi options. The bezels will be slimmer at 4.5mm compared to 5.5mm on the Pixel Watch 2.

The display will also be brighter with a peak brightness of 2000 nits, up from 1000 nits on the previous model. The watch series is rumored to come in multiple colors, including Silver, Black, and Gold cases paired with Hazel, Obsidian, Porcelain, and Rose Quartz bands.

Redmi K70 Ultra to come with four in-house chips and one from MediaTek

Redmi has been steadily revealing details about the upcoming Redmi K70 Ultra, though a launch date for the Chinese market remains unconfirmed. Today a leak from tipster Digital Chat Station has shed light on further specifications of the phone.

According to the leak, the K70 Ultra will reportedly pack four in-house chips alongside the MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ processor. This includes the Surge P2 for fast charging, the G1 for power management, the T1 for signal enhancement, and the D1 for independent display processing.

Xiaomi has been using its in-house chips in Redmi phones for a few years now, but the K70 Ultra seems to be the most packed with in-house technology among them.

While that’s the features revealed by the latest leak, here’s what has been revealed so far officially. The K70 Ultra will feature a 1.5K C8+ straight screen from TCL Huaxing which offers a 144Hz refresh rate and 3840Hz ultra-high frequency PWM dimming. Additionally, there’s support for DC dimming for consistent brightness control in higher brightness settings.

The Redmi K70 Ultra also appears well-built with a high-strength metal frame and a four-curved equal-depth glass back cover. The rear camera system is anchored by a 50-megapixel main sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS). Color options are said to include black, white, and purple.

Fueling the phone will be a 5500mAh battery with support for 120W wired charging. For durability, the phone has IP68 dust and water resistance certification.

The Redmi K70 Ultra is expected to debut with the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 and Mix Flip later this month in China. It seems that the K70 Ultra may remain exclusive to the Chinese market. However, a tweaked version of the phone equipped with better cameras is expected to be released in the global market with the Xiaomi 14T Pro moniker.

Pixel 9 Pro XL hands-on video shows how different it is from Pixel 9 or Galaxy S24 Ultra

Google‘s attempts to hold a tighter lid on Pixel 9 leaks appear to be failing. Following a hands-on video of the standard Pixel 9, two quick videos have surfaced on TikTok showing the larger Pixel 9 Pro XL.

The first video offers a direct size comparison between the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL, confirming the latter’s expected larger form factor.

The second clip positions the Pixel 9 Pro XL next to Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra, giving us a glimpse into how Google’s flagship will stack up against its biggest competitor in terms of physical dimensions.

Google’s launch strategy for the Pixel line seems to be in flux this year. The company is deviating from its usual schedule with a surprise event set for August 13th, two months earlier than typical Pixel launches. While this might have been intended to mitigate leaks, the current flow of information suggests otherwise.

Additionally, the Pixel 9 series is expanding to include four distinct models: the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and the foldable Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

The Pixel 9 is the direct successor to the Pixel 8, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL takes over from the Pixel 8 Pro. The Pixel 9 Pro offers the same internal hardware as the Pro XL but in a more compact body size similar to the standard Pixel 9. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold rounds out the bunch as the successor to the original Pixel Fold.

Adding to the frenzy, possible pricing for all four devices has been revealed in a leak earlier this week. The news wasn’t entirely positive. While some prices hold steady compared to last year’s models, a bunch of them are likely to see a price increase. We will keep you in the loop on any new updates about the Pixel 9 series.

The leak also reveals the colour options for the Moto Edge 50 Neo. The phone will reportedly come in Gray, Blue, Poinciana, and Milk colors. Interestingly, Sudhanshu suggests that some of these colors will be Pantone-certified — usual from Motorola these days.

While details beyond storage and color are scarce at the moment, it’s reasonable to expect the Moto Edge 50 Neo to share some similarities with its predecessor, the Edge 40 Neo.

Motorola Edge 40 Neo Specifications

As a reference, the Edge 40 Neo features a 6.55-inch pOLED display with a smooth 144Hz refresh rate. It’s powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7030 processor, which offers mid-range performance. The phone boasts up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, aligning with the leaked options for the Edge 50 Neo.

On the software side, the Edge 40 Neo runs Android 13 and is guaranteed to receive two more Android version updates, keeping the phone’s software up-to-date for a while.

Motorola Edge 40 Neo

Camera specifications for the Moto Edge 50 Neo remain unknown, but the Edge 40 Neo sported a 50MP primary sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS) for sharper photos, accompanied by a 13MP ultra-wide sensor for capturing wider scenes. The front camera for selfies and video calls resolved at 32MP on the Edge 40 Neo.

Battery life shouldn’t be a concern with the Edge 40 Neo packing a 5,000mAh battery with support for 68W fast charging. Additionally, the Edge 40 Neo boasts an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, dual stereo speakers for immersive audio, Dolby Atmos support for enhanced sound quality, NFC for contactless payments, and an in-display fingerprint sensor for secure unlocking.

Honor CEO speculates the reason we’re not seeing a foldable from Apple yet

Android users now have the option to choose from a wide range of smartphone manufacturers when it comes to a foldable phone purchase. However, there’s no foldable device from Apple yet. In the latest revelation, Honor CEO Zhao Ming has shared his opinion about this.

At the launch conference for the Honor Magic V3 and Magic Vs3 yesterday, Zhao Ming said in an interview that from the consumer’s perspective, Honor is trying to fulfill the demand by making foldable phones. Generally, the thickness, weight, and durability of the folding mechanism and the foldable screen are the main concerns of consumers. The Honor official revealed that the company is working to overcome these challenges.

When asked why Apple has not yet launched a foldable phone, he suggested that the company might be struggling to overcome the challenges associated with the form factor. “If (Apple) launched it in 26 years, it means that they are optimistic about this track, so why not launch it now? It should be that they are not capable of making a good foldable screen. This is an obvious logic,” (translated).

Speaking of the company’s own product development, the official stated that if the thickness and weight of their foldable phones are comparable to those of other manufacturers, customers are likely to opt for them as well. He emphasized that they would address reliability issues through advancements in material science.

He added that the goal isn’t just to make the foldable phones thin and light but also to provide additional value to users. He also noted that a foldable phone with a good flow and consistency between the inner and outer screen can offer an experience that can never be offered through candy-bar phones. The addition of AI can also offer additional value to the multitasking experience of foldable phones.

Here’s what Honor CEO thinks about Xiaomi’s allegedly slimmest upcoming foldable, the Mix Fold 4

Last year we saw the Honor Magic V2 that is measured at 9.9mm. The just released Honor Magic V3 is even thinner at 9.2mm. However, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 is rumored to come with a 9.x thickness, which is claimed to become the narrowest foldable phone in the market.

Honor CEO believes that Magic V3 will accelerate the product development from other brands in the industry

Zhao Ming, CEO of Honor said in an interview that they are looking forward to their competitors catching up quickly. The company also believes that the newly released Magic V3 will accelerate the product development from other brands in the industry. When asked whether the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 will break the record of the Honor Magic V3, Zhao Ming replied, he does not care about this. He is more concerned about the development and definition of foldable screens and how to make them the same as candy-bar phones.

He also said that with the integration of the latest technologies and new materials, it’s possible for foldable devices to offer a better user experience than the standard candy-bar phones. He didn’t confirm if the company is planning to make the Honor Magic 4 even thinner. However, he emphasized that Honor will make significant investments in flagship phones, and use its results to drive the progress of Honor’s entire product lineup.

The official explained that after becoming independent, the company has been striving to find its unique position. They aim to take on challenging and meaningful tasks, remain grounded for the long term, and achieve extraordinary results. The focus has been on breaking conventional thinking boundaries. For instance, they emphasized that many people wouldn’t typically associate using a mobile phone with myopia relief and eye protection.
