Red Magic 9S Pro is finally on sale with different price tags for different colors

The Red Magic 9S Pro was launched just a couple of days ago in China and is finally on sale. The series includes two models – Red Magic 9S Pro and Red Magic 9S Pro+. The two of them only differ from each other in battery capacity and charging speed.

The pricing starts from 4,799 yuan (equivalent to $660) and the phone is now available in the home country. Different color variants of the two models come with slightly different price tags.

Starting with the Red Magic 9S Pro, the ‘Dark Knight’ and ‘Day Warrior’ color options are priced at 4,799 Yuan and 5,199 Yuan for the 256GB and 512GB color options respectively. On the other hand, the ‘Deuterium front transparent Silver Wing’ and ‘Deuterium Front Transparent Dark Night’ are priced at 4,999 Yuan and 5,399 Yuan for the same configurations.

Speaking of the Red Magic 9S Pro+, the ‘Dark Knight’ and ‘Day Warrior’ color variants are priced at 5,799 Yuan for the 16GB + 512GB configuration. The ‘Deuterium front transparent Silver Wing’ and ‘Deuterium Front Transparent Dark Night’ variants with the same configuration are priced at 5,999 Yuan.

Notably, the 24GB+1TB variant of the Red Magic 9S Pro+ is only available in the ‘Dark Knight’ color.

Both the phones offer 6.8″ AMOLED displays that reach a peak brightness of 1600 nits. Both the models also have the exact same dimension, which is 163.89mm x 76.35mm x 8.9mm.

Speaking of cameras, both of them equip a 50MP main (1/1.57″, 1.0µm, with OIS), a 50MP ultrawide (1/2.76″, 0.64µm), and a 2MP depth sensor. There is a 16 MP under-display selfie camera on the front.

While the Pro model comes with a 5,500mAh battery and supports 165W wired charging, the Red Magic Pro+ packs a larger 6500 mAh battery but supports a much slower 80W charging speed.

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun made an announcement on Weibo revealing that the new generation smartphone production factory located in Changping, Beijing will soon become operational. The CEO also released a video further introducing the factory.

The factory can also maintain itself with micron-level dust removal

The new factory will be a “dark factory” that can operate 24 hours a day without people. Additionally, the machines in the factory can cooperate with each other. The factory can also create a dust-free environment all by itself with micron-level dust removal.

The production quality of the factory will be controlled by self-developed intelligent machines. It is claimed that the production process can manufacture one smartphone unit every second. According to the promotional video, the smart factory is just a small step for Xiaomi to explore the future, which has just begun.

Xiaomi has reportedly invested 2.4 billion yuan in the development of the new production process. The new factory in Changping occupies a construction area of 81,000 square meters. It has also been certified as a “national smart manufacturing benchmark enterprise” with an annual production capacity of 10 million flagship smartphones. This factory will handle the production of the upcoming foldable phones – Xiaomi MIX Fold 4 and Xiaomi MIX Filp.

However, Xiaomi has been using automation in its production process for quite a while at this point. Xiaomi’s smart factory in Yizhuang, Beijing was completed and ready for production as early as 2019. According to a previous report, the production of the company’s first book-style foldable, the Xiaomi Mix Fold, was handled completely by the first phase smart factory located in Yizhuang, Beijing.

Redmi K70 Ultra’s C8+ screen to offer high-frequency PWM and DC dimming

The Redmi K60 Ultra was launched in August last year and the successor is also expected to launch this month. In the latest news, tipster Digital Chat Station claimed that the phone will support 3840Hz high-frequency PWM dimming below 60 nits brightness and DC dimming above that. According to the IEEE Std1789-2015 international standard, when the screen flicker frequency is greater than 3125Hz, the flicker reportedly poses no risk to the human eye. So the display can be considered eye-safe.

Reportedly, the display will use the C8+ luminous materials jointly developed by Xiaomi and Huaxing. The display is now more efficient and the longevity of the panel has achieved an “unimaginable breakthrough” of more than 100%. The Redmi K70 Ultra will be the first phone to launch with this new display panel. The high PWM frequency reduces eye fatigue and helps the panel to offer rich colors. The display panel will have a 1.5K resolution and will come with a flat design.

According to a recently revealed Geekbench listing, the phone equips the Dimensity 9300+ chipset, which offers a Cortex-X4 performance core that reaches up to 3.4GHz, 3X Cortex-X4 clocked at 2.85GHz, and 4X Cortex-A720 clocked at 2.0GHz. The chipset uses TSMC’s 3rd generation 4nm fabrication process and comes with an 18MB L3 + SLC cache. The phone will likely equip UFS 4.0 fast storage and could offer up to 24GB + 1TB configuration.

The phone will also equip on-device generative AI models such as “Tongyi Qianwen”, “Baichuan”, and “Wenxin Yiyan” and will reportedly offer a number of multimodal generative AI features. There will be a discrete graphics chip to provide super-resolution and super-frame functions for games.

The phone will come with an IP68 dust and water resistance rating just like the predecessor. To give you an idea of what to expect, the K60 Ultra equips the Dimensity 9200+ (4 nm) chipset and is available in the following configurations – 256GB 12GB RAM, 256GB 16GB RAM, 512GB 16GB RAM, 1TB 16GB RAM, 1TB 24GB RAM. It packs a 50MP main (1/1.49″, with OIS), an 8MP ultrawide, and a 2MP macro camera. There is a 20MP (1/2.0″, 0.8µm) selfie camera on the front.

Researchers Develop Ultra-Cold Cooling System

Researchers at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, who have been researching new methods to cool quantum computers for some time, have finally developed a cooling system that creates an environment cooler than the depths of space itself for these systems.

In their experiment, they successfully cooled a quantum computer processor to -273°C. This temperature is even colder than the average temperature of space, which is around -270°C. So why are researchers trying to cool the system so much?

As you know, quantum computers unlike current computers, need to be constantly cooled. However, you can’t just attach a computer cooler and start it up. The components that perform quantum calculations, called “qubits,” must be kept as close to zero degrees as possible to avoid being affected by heat.

Therefore, significant effort has been made to operate quantum computers as accurately and smoothly as possible. The interesting part is that this groundbreaking cooling system is made using off-the-shelf computer parts.

This means it didn’t cost millions of dollars to develop. This also suggests there’s not a significant barrier to its applicability in consumer electronics. As you know, while modern hardware is quite powerful, heat often limits it from reaching its full potential.

Who knows, perhaps this system might appear in gaming consoles, PCs, and laptop models in the near future. This could mean even my 1 kg MateBook X Pro could handle playing GTA VI.

Coolpad teases Cool 50 smartphone with AG glass back & 4700mAh battery, launching soon

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Coolpad has announced the release of its latest budget-oriented smartphone, the Cool 50.

The phone boasts several features a 256GB storage capacity, a 4700mAh battery for extended usage, and an AG glass back cover for a premium feel. The Cool 50 also sports a 6.56-inch waterdrop display on the front and dual cameras and an LED Flash at the back.

The phone will be available in three attractive colors: Snow Domain Silver, Frosted Black, and Sakura Pink. While the official pricing is yet to be revealed, Coolpad has confirmed that the phone will be sold through both online and offline channels.

The phone was spotted on the China Compulsory Certification (CCC) recently which reveals the Cool 50 features a screen resolution of 720×1600 pixels and measures 163.6×74.8×9.2mm. The phone weighs approximately 199g.

The processor model for the Cool 50 remains undisclosed, but certification information reveals an octa-core CPU with a clock speed of 1.8GHz.

Coolpad’s latest release follows the earlier launch of the Cool 60, a budget smartphone introduced in China earlier this year. The Cool 60 is priced at 599 yuan ($83) and features a UNISOC T760 chipset, 4GB RAM, and 128GB storage.

It sports a 6.51-inch, 720p LCD screen with a 90Hz refresh rate and includes a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. It also supports 5G networks and split-screen functionality.

The exact launch date is currently unknown, but with the company offering limited-time deals for its Weibo users, the launch is anticipated soon. Full pricing and specifications will be revealed at that time. Stay tuned for updates.

Honor is gearing up for a busy launch season, with the Honor 200 5G series confirmed for India on July 18th. In China, they’ve announced the July 12th launch of several devices including the Honor MagicPad 2. This tablet has now been spotted on the UAE’s TDRA certification website, hinting at a global release alongside the Chinese launch.

The TDRA listing reveals a Wi-Fi-only variant of the MagicPad 2 (model number ROD2-W09), suggesting a wider rollout beyond China. Pre-orders for the tablet are already underway in China, where it’s available in three colors (Sky Blue, Moon Shadow, Starry Black) and four configurations: 8GB+256GB, 12GB+256GB, 16GB+512GB, and a top-tier 16GB+1TB option.

Last week, a few details about this upcoming tablet were leaked online. As per the leak, the MagicPad 2 will feature a 12.3-inch OLED panel offering 3K resolution with 144Hz refresh rate and an ultra-high frequency eye protection dimming.

Previous leaks also suggest that the tablet will be powered by a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor. Its display is confirmed to offer HDR capabilities since it has “IMAX Enhanced” written on the back, and it is also expected to offer keyboard connectivity via Bluetooth since it lacks metal contact points. Microsoft bans Android in China Office, mandates iPhones for work

Microsoft is making a significant policy change for its employees in China. Starting this September, iPhones will become the mandated device for work purposes, effectively barring Android phones from accessing company resources. An internal memo obtained by Bloomberg News cites security concerns as the primary reason for this shift.

The crux of the issue lies with Google Mobile Services (GMS) being unavailable in mainland China. These services are crucial for Microsoft’s security applications like Microsoft Authenticator and Identity Pass, which are now mandatory for all employees. With Google Play, the official app store for Android, unavailable in China, Apple’s App Store becomes the only platform where these apps can be reliably downloaded.

To ease the transition, Microsoft will provide each employee currently using an Android phone with a new iPhone 15. These devices will be available for pick-up at designated collection points across China. The square-faced smartwatch boasts several AI-powered functionalities, including real-time voice transcription for note-taking, allowing users to capture ideas on the go. This is further enhanced with AI-assisted creativity, though the specifics of this function remain unclear. iQOO is also touting AI-customizable watch faces, giving users the power to personalize their smartwatch with unique designs, even including anime-inspired styles.

The Watch GT features an AI smart window that delivers contextual notifications. By understanding your situation and activity, the smartwatch can intelligently display relevant information when you raise your wrist.

Beyond AI features, the Watch GT reportedly boasts independent navigation powered by Baidu, a first for its price range. This functionality is further bolstered by eSIM cloud messaging, allowing users to receive calls, texts, notifications, and access navigation even without a connected smartphone.

Amazon launches Echo Spot with Alexa, improved display, and a fresh design

Amazon has reintroduced the Echo Spot, a familiar face in the Alexa device lineup. This miniature smart display is designed specifically for nightstands or desks, serving primarily as a customizable smart alarm clock.

The centerpiece of the Echo Spot is a 2.83-inch touchscreen occupying the top half of the device. Unlike the original version’s circular screen with thick bezels, the new display offers a more modern semi-circular design.

The display shows the time and date at a glance. Users can personalize their experience with various clock faces. Additionally, Amazon has included special visuals for core functions like alarms, music playback, and weather forecasts. These visuals include illustrations like a shining sun, storm clouds, or a snowflake depending on the weather. The user interface can also be customized with six color options: orange, violet, magenta, lime, teal, and blue.

Below the display is a 1.73-inch front-firing speaker hidden behind a mesh grille, identical to the speaker in the 5th Gen Echo Dot and Echo Dot with Clock. Built-in microphones allow users to interact with Alexa through voice commands, and there’s a microphone mute button that is conveniently placed between the volume up and down buttons on top of the device.

For privacy-conscious users, the Echo Spot does not have a camera, unlike the Echo Show 5 or Show 8. Voice recordings can be deleted through the Alexa app on Android or iOS devices. The Echo Spot also features a motion sensor, allowing users to dismiss alarms by tapping the top of the device.

The Echo Spot positions itself as a focused device. It doesn’t try to be everything to everyone, instead excels as a smart alarm clock with a customizable interface.

OnePlus Nord CE 2 has received a fresh update, OxygenOS 13 F.55, specifically for Indian variant of the phone. This update brings the June 2024 security patch.

OnePlus Nord CE 2 was introduced two years ago as a budget-friendly option and continues to receive security updates. The phone launched in February 2022, OnePlus has promised to provide security updates for three years.

Lenovo has begun taking pre-orders for its YOGA Air 14s 2024 AI-powered notebook, a laptop that promises exceptional battery life and top-notch performance.

Sony India has unveiled the BRAVIA BZ53L, a 98-inch display designed for professional use in offices, schools, and stores.
