When Zepp OS was announced in July, one of the new features the manufacturer revealed the new operating system would bring is an improvement in power consumption. With the launch of the new Amazfit GTR 3 and Amazfit GTS 3, that claim is indeed true as both watches do have better battery life, at least on paper, than their predecessors.

The Amazfit GTR 2 and Amazfit GTS 2 launched with a battery capacity of 471mAh and 246mAh respectively. Surprisingly, the new Amazfit GTR 3 has a smaller 450mAh battery compared to its predecessor while the new Amazfit GTS 3 has a 250mAh battery which is a tad bigger than that of its predecessor. Nevertheless, the Amazfit GTS 3 with its smaller battery capacity, but the same 1.39-inch display size as the Amazfit GTR 2, has better battery life. The Amazfit GTR 3 which has a slightly bigger battery but also a larger 1.75-inch screen compared to its predecessor, the Amazfit GTS 2 whose screen is 1.65 inches, also has better battery life.

Amazfit GTR 3 vs Amazfit GTR 2

As shown in the table above, the Amazfit GTR 3, even with its smaller battery capacity has an additional 7 days of battery life when compared to its predecessor for typical usage. For heavy usage, it also gets an extra 3.5 days of battery life which is quite impressive. Surprisingly, in battery saver mode, its battery life is 3 days fewer.

Amazfit GTS 3 vs Amazfit GTS 2

The Amazfit GTS 3 has a bigger display than its predecessor and a slightly bigger battery. It is understandable that it has a bigger battery since the larger display means the overall watch is bigger and there should be more space to squeeze in a bigger battery. However, since the screen is bigger and the difference in battery capacity is very small, one wouldn’t expect a significant difference in battery life, right?

Turns out the Amazfit GTS 3 is as impressive in terms of battery life just like its circular sibling. In typical usage mode, its battery life is 5 days more than that of the Amazfit GTS 2. It also lasts for an additional 2.5 days in heavy usage mode when compared to its predecessor. In battery saver mode, both smartwatches have the same battery life.

Zepp OS – A promise delivered

It is pretty nice to see that the promise of better power consumption with the arrival of Zepp OS is not false. Although the details above were pulled from their product pages, we don’t expect a significant deviation, if at all, when the watches are reviewed.

Huami has an event tomorrow in China and it has confirmed that it will announce a new operating system and new chipset for smartwatches. It turns out that there will be a global launch for a new pair of Amazfit Earbuds too and we may also get a new smartwatch under the Amazfit GTR 2/ GTS 2 series.

The official Amazfit Global Twitter account has revealed that it will announce a new pair of earbuds. The earbuds should launch as a successor to the ZenBuds and will have health features such as posture detection and sedentary reminder. Amazfit has also revealed that the earbuds will have Active Noise Cancellation and sports tracking.

Huami has also teased a new smartwatch that will be a member of its Amazfit GTS 2 and Amazfit GTR 2 family. There are already six smartwatches under the second-generation GT family. Alongside the Amazfit GTS 2 and Amazfit GTR 2, there is also the Amazfit GTS 2 Mini, Amazfit GTS 2e, Amazfit GTR 2e, and the Amazfit GTR 2 eSIM.

From the teaser, it appears it will be a member of the GTR family as the image shows a silhouette of a watch with a round display.

Amazfit GTR 2 vs GTS 2 vs GTR 2e vs GTS 2e vs GTS Mini

And recently Amazfit expanded these two product lineups with their own cheaper models, the GTR 2e and the GTS 2e, both retaining the Essential core functionality from their more expensive siblings. The affordable variants come with stable endurance and a similar design. And instead of saying that the E-edition is the cheaper version, it’s better to call them the ‘Essential version’. Because most of the important features are reserved from the original standard version, and the E editions even add a temperature sensor that was absent on the Standard models. In addition to the E editions, Amazfit released an even cheaper model, the GTS 2 mini, which is also one of the highlights of the series updates, and an LTE version for the GTR 2, which adds LTE function to offer an independent phone-free experience to its users.

So in this review, let’s find out how exactly the 4 versions differ from each other (and also the GTS 2 Mini) and which one should be your pick. Before we start, it’s worth mentioning that the Amazfit GT series is likely the world’s most extensive smartwatch series right now. Among the models available in the lineup, there’s going to be at least one ideal smartwatch for you. 

GTR 2 vs GTS 2 Design

First, let’s look at the GTR 2 and the GTS 2. The original Amazfit GTR 2 and GTS 2 shared almost all the same functions except for their appearances and the battery life. 

The Amazfit GTR 2 comes in two versions – Classic and Sports. The Classic version has a stainless steel case and leather straps while the Sports version has an aluminum alloy case and silicone straps. Both are covered with 3D curved glass that fuses with the frame at the edges. As for the GTS 2, it only comes in one version which is similar to the sport version of the GTR 2, featuring an aluminum alloy case and silicone straps with 3D curved glass covered.

The display is the biggest difference between the GTR 2 and the GTS 2. The GTR 2 features a 1.39-inch round AMOLED display with a decent resolution, while the GTS 2 has a 1.69-inch rectangular one with a 341ppi resolution. Both of them support a plethora of sports modes – 90 modes and features almost all the latest sensors for a smartwatch, no matter for health or daily life uses. And their biggest highlight should be the blood-oxygen monitoring solution. While features like Wi-Fi connectivity and the storage functions mainly for music playback are absent on the E version. 

The GTR 2e and GTS 2e are like the twins of the GTR 2 and GTS 2, and their almost identical looks could make it hard to tell what the difference is. 

What do they sacrifice for their cheaper prices and also what do they retain? 

Amazfit GTS 2 vs 2e

As you can see, at first glance, from the dial shape and size to the strap, the 2 and the 2e are really almost identical in appearance. If we had to nitpick the differences in their appearances, note that the 2e has a black bezel that’s closer to a silver color, while the GTR 2 model looks closer to solid black. And the GTR2 dial has a little more scale than the 2e around the dial edges. 

If you don’t look at their specs on paper, you won’t even notice that the GTS 2e is 0.15mm thicker than its big brother, the GTS 2. The only difference that can be seen at a glance is perhaps the material of the bezel. Although the frame is made of the same aluminum alloy, its bezel is not as stunning as the glossy bezel of the golden version of GTS 2, which is a bit like the design of the new iPhone. But not all the GTS 2 models have glossy processing. The other two colors apply a similar matte finish as what we saw on the 2e. 

GTR 2 vs 2e

A design comparison between GTR 2e and GTR 2 also reveals a similar situation. The GTR 2 that I have in my hand is the sports edition, having a metal frame with a matte finish. Compared to GTR 2, the GTR 2e’s size in all dimensions increases by 0.1mm. Other than that, there is no visible difference. As for the watch display, the GTS 2e and the GTR 2e are covered with 2.5D glass, so their front faces are actually a bit flatter than their more expensive siblings. But still the same, it’s not easily perceivable to the naked eyes.

So you don’t have to worry about the ‘2e’ editions compromising in terms of design or build quality.

GTR 2e & GTS 2e: Changes

Since there are no major changes in appearance, let’s talk about what’s missing from the 2Es compared to the GTR and GTS 2. 

The 2e models remove the speaker and consequently, cannot have independent music playback. But you can still control your phone’s music playback on the 2e watches. Also, it doesn’t support Bluetooth calls without the speaker and only offers call alerts. Other than that, the 2e models have all the features on the series 2. Even when you look at the sensors equipped on the 2e models, you will find that in addition to all the sensors that were equipped on the GTR and GTS 2 models, like the blood-oxygen sensor, acceleration sensor, gyroscope sensor, geomagnetic sensor, ambient light sensor, and air pressure sensor, the 2E models in fact come with an additional temperature sensor. 

It’s the first time that we are seeing such a temperature sensor on a smartwatch product. Both the GTR 2e and the GTS 2e can measure the temperature of the contact area. For example, place the watch in the air to measure the current ambient temperature, or wear the watch on the wrist to measure the wrist-skin temperature. And in order to obtain a more accurate temperature value, make sure that the watch continues measuring the contact area for more than 15 minutes. 

However, it should be noted that the temperature of the skin isn’t the same as body temperature and is also easily affected by external conditions, so the measurement results are for reference only and not for medical purposes. Just remember that it still cannot replace your medical thermometer. 

GTR/GTS 2e models have a Long Battery life

Another advantage of the “E” models should be their battery performance. Both 2e models can last twice as long as their predecessors with the same battery capacity. Specifically, under typical usage scenario, the GTS 2e can last for 14 days, while the GTR 2e can last for even 24 days. And under basic usage scenarios where we only use the watch to check the time, the GTR 2e can have up to a 45-day battery on a single charge, which is still 7 days longer than the GTR 2’s maximum life. For the GTS 2e, due to the size limits, the smaller 341mAh battery still can run for 24 days. Considering its compact design, the results are not bad at all. 

And even now, it’s really impressive that both the 2e models have been working effectively without running out of power since the unboxing several days ago. For the review, it should be known that we turned on almost all the essential features and tested the watches to simulate our daily uses.  

With the two advantages of longer battery life and a new temperature measuring sensor, the cheaper GTS 2e and the GTR 2e can even be recommended over the standard 2 series models for certain users. 

Amazfit GTR 2, GTS 2, GTR 2e, GTS 2e: Features 

Now let’s come back to the features that are shared by the whole family of GTR 2 and GTS 2 SERIES. On lighting-up the watch, a changeable watch face is shown up with a decent resolution. Right now, Amazfit offers over 50 watch faces and over 30 patterns of Always-on-display for each watch, and Amazfit has promised that more watch faces will be available on its store in the future. And for always-on-display, Users are allowed to switch off this feature for longer battery life, or just turn on the smart mode that switches off AOD when it detects a sleeping state or when it’s not worn on the wrist.

Amazfit GT family: User Interface

The operation UI is the same for all four watches. Take the GTS 2e as an example.

Swipe down to call out the menu bar, swipe up to call out the notification center, and left and right are for customized features pages. The feature pages are able to be customized through the official App on the phone. And let’s follow all these pages to see what common features that Amazfit has given to all the GTR and GTS 2 watches. The first page shown on the dial has tri-color-circles, which represent your progress of the daily goals for steps and calories. When the watch pairs to the mobile app it will let you set the target value of your health goals, with which you can monitor your daily activities to make sure that you get good exercise every day. And you can check more health data through your phone and set up a target as a way to motivate yourself to exercise hard every day. 

A dedicated page in the UI shows the real-time heart rate data. And then if you swipe down from that page, there is more information showing the heart rate zone, which is more intuitive, helping you maintain your exercise states with your heart rate. For example, if you just want to lose weight, you can manage your heart rate to stay in the states of Fat Burning and Aerobic between 120 and 150. 

And then it’s the music page. For the GTR 2 and the GTS 2, you could slide down to view music lists and choose the audio source whether to play music independently or to play the music on your phone. Meanwhile, the exclusive speaker allows the watch to play audio without connecting wireless earbuds, which, however, consumes more power. For music playback, connecting to wireless earbuds is recommended. 

Without the function of independent music playback (no internal storage) like the GTR 2 and the GTS 2, the 2e models can only control the volume and song switch on your smartphone, but to be honest, under most conditions, it doesn’t affect the experience at all. Then swipe again to the weather page, which shows today’s weather, temperature, humidity, and so on. And sliding down you will see brief weather forecasts for the next few days.

PAI Indicator

And the next page is Amazfit’s special PAI indicator, a health assessment system that has been in place since the first generation of the GTR and the GTS series. PAI is a personal physiological activity indicator based on heart rate data, daily activity intensity, and other health data. All the complicated information is converted into an intuitive PAI value to help you easily understand your health conditions. High PAI values indicate that users are more likely to live a healthy lifestyle which can effectively reduce the risk of heart diseases.

The last page that can be reached directly by sliding from the watch face to the left is an integrated shortcut interface. It shows all the basic data that we mentioned above. You can jump to the page shown on the shortcuts with just one click. 

Blood Oxygen Measurement & Stress Index

There is another important feature that we haven’t mentioned, which is blood oxygen saturation detection. It’s one of the latest features for smartwatch products. For those who stay indoors for a long period or work with high intensity, the results of Oxygen saturation detection could help determine whether you should take a break.

Another health index that is available in the Amazfit watches is the stress index. It’s calculated by the change in heart rate variability values, which indicates your real-time stress level as a reference. And accordingly, you may need proper rest if you have a high-stress index. 

Sports Modes & GPS

So far, all the four watches have supported up to 90 sports modes monitoring, which should be enough for most people. As a smartwatch, the built-in GPS is an important feature that can significantly improve user experience during exercise monitoring. Both the watches can provide a decent accuracy while running.

In addition to the regular exercise features, I believe most of you are concerned about its waterproofness. For the entire GTR and GTS series, the 5ATM water-resistance allows users to wear it for swimming. But just pay attention to the strap you use. Genuine leather or leather straps cannot be worn for swimming and always remember to wear the watch with the included silicone strap when swimming.

After figuring out their similarities and differences among the GTR families, I believe that you guys should already know which version is suitable for you. 

No doubt that the 2e models exceed our expectations especially since we initially considered them as cheaper models without some features from the standard models. Instead, they’re more like upgraded models that remove some inconsequential features without affecting essential experience, featuring improved battery performance and also a new temperature sensor.

If you are still confused about whether to buy a GTR 2e or GTS 2e, how about asking yourself a question: A lighter square dial with shorter battery life or a round dial with longer battery life? Other than that, there is no more difference between the GTR 2e and the GTS 2e.

Since the emergence of smartwatches led by the Apple watch, square watches have also started to become a mainstream design. It represents technological sense and fashion, while the round design is more classic and easier to match your outfit. And as you can see, Amazfit offers the best of both worlds to users. So there’s no need to be confused about their functionalities. As smartwatches, all these four watches’ effective performance is really impressive. All you need is to follow your own taste.   

Amazfit GTS 2 Mini

If you are still searching for a multi-functional smartwatch for a lower price, there’s a new model that joined the GTS family recently, which is the GTS 2 Mini. For the GTS 2 mini, you still can enjoy almost all the essential features we mentioned. Compared to the GTS 2, the mini slightly size-down the display to 1.55 inches with a relatively lower resolution. And consequently, it only weighs 19.5g. Although the battery capacity is reduced even further, we still can have better battery life performance than the GTS 2 since it has removed some features. Other than that, it’s almost the same as what the GTS 2e offers. What’s surprising is that it’s the only model among the whole series that has a feature of women’s health tracking. So to be honest, for those female users who don’t want a smartwatch for heavy-use, the mini is the most recommended.  

So far we’ve introduced the most recommended 5 models of the GTR 2 and GTS 2 family. But there is one more version that we haven’t talked about, the GTR 2 LTE. It’s a special version that was developed for those who require LTE calls on the watch. Other than that, all the features are almost the same as the GTR 2.

Amazfit India has already confirmed that it will launch the entire GT 2 series of Smartwatch in the country. Accordingly, it announced the GTR 2 starting at ₹12,999($177) a few days back. Today, the company has made the sibling GTS 2 official for the same price.

Amazfit GTS 2 Price, Availability

Amazfit GTS 2 will be available on the official website, and Amazon India at launch. The device will accordingly launch on December 21 in the country. However, starting today, users can pre-order the smartwatch on Amazfit Website from Today(December 18). You can take a look at the pricing below:

• Amazfit GTS 2 (Black)- ₹12,999($177).

As mentioned, the pre-order is open only for the Midnight Black variant. However, we can expect the GTS 2 Chinese variant colors like Desert Gold, Urban Gray to debut on December 21(Monday).

That said, the Amazfit website also says deliveries will begin from December 21 and a strap worth ₹1,799($24.47) will be free for those who pre-order the device. Still, the Amazon India webpage just shows a ‘notify me’ button.

Amazfit GTS 2 Specifications and Features

From, the above, we can see that Huami has priced the GTS 2 exactly as the GTR 2. However, we all know that GT’S’ has a square-shaped display whereas GT’R’ watches have a round dial. Additionally, they have has some differences in display, battery but share a lot of similarities as well.

The Amazfit GTS 2 measures 42.8×35.6×9.7mm and weighs 24.7g without the strap. As mentioned above there is a square-display up front, a single crown on the right, and straps made of silicone. Amazfit says the body is made of Aluminum alloy with a 3D curved bezel-less design but the bottom shell is plastic.

Besides, there is a 1.65-inch AMOLED square-display with a resolution of 348×442 pixels. It also has a peak brightness of 450 nits and a 341 PPI. This is a bit bigger than the GTR 2  and also has a similar ODLC coating for scratch resistance. Similarly, the GTS 2 has a smaller 246mAh battery than GTR 2(471mAh) and it should last for 7-days(Typical use) on a single charge via magnetic stand.

For connectivity, we have Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 2.4GHz, GPS, GLONASS. Other features like self-developed BioTracker, 2 PPG with blood oxygen monitoring, 24-hr heart rate monitoring, 12 sport modes, PAI health assessment, similar to GTR 2. It also has an offline voice assistant support, sleep tracking, voice calling, 3GB storage, Notifications, and 5ATM water resistance.

The Amazfit GTS 2 wasn’t the only one that got a cheaper model this week, the round-faced Amazfit GTR 2 also did. The Amazfit GTR 2e, as the watch is called, is not only cheaper but has a significantly better life, though it does miss out on some key features of the standard version.

We already compared the GTS 2 series which has three models but if you have been waiting for a comparison between the Amazfit GTR and the new Amazfit GTR 2e, then this is for you. As usual, a spec-by-spec comparison of both watches comes first before we focus on the major differences:

Design and Display

The Amazfit GTR 2 comes in two versions – Classic and Sports. The Classic version has a stainless steel case and leather straps while the Sports version has an aluminum alloy case and silicone straps. Both are covered with 3D curved glass that fuses with the frame at the edges. The Amazfit GTR 2e is practically the sports version with 2.5D glass and a different finish when it comes to its design.

For the display, the Amazfit GTR 2 and GTR 2e have the same AMOLED screen. They have the same size and the same resolution too. So save for the glass on top, the Amazfit GTR 2 and Amazfit GTR 2e are identical when it comes to their displays.

Sports Modes and Features

When the Amazfit GTR 2 was announced, it supported only 12 sports modes but an update released later increased the number to 90. Huami has said that the Amazfit GTR 2e will get an OTA update that will increase the supported sports modes to 90 too.

Coming to other features, the Amazfit GTR 2 has built-in storage so that you can load up your watch with your songs and listen to them via a connected Bluetooth headset without the need for a phone when exercising. It also has a microphone and speaker, so owners can accept calls when the notification shows up on their watch without needing to bring out their phone to pick up a call.

Both the GTR 2 and GTR 2e have Xiaomi’s XiaoAI assistant but only the former has support for offline commands. We do not know if the global version of the Amazfit GTR 2e will come with Amazon’s Alexa assistant if and when it is announced in other countries.

The two smartwatches packed nearly the same senors but the Amazfit GTR 2e adds a temperature sensor for measuring ambient temperature and the temperature of the wearer’s skin.

Battery life

The Amazfit GTR 2 has a better battery life than its sibling, the Amazfit GTS 2, but the new Amazfit GTR 2e boasts an additional 10 days of usage over the GTR 2’s Typical Usage mode and extends the basic watch mode to 45 days.

Price

The Amazfit GTR 2 is priced at ¥999 (~$153) in China for the Sports Edition and ¥1099 for the Classic Edition. In the USA, the Sports Edition is $179.99 while the Classic Edition is $199.99. The Amazfit GTR 2e has an MSRP of ¥699 (~$122) and if it gets a global release, it is expected to cost a bit more but should still be under $150.

Conclusion

The Amazfit GTR 2e drops features such as built-in storage, Wi-Fi connectivity, and Bluetooth call support for a more affordable price tag but gets a significant boost in battery life. If you choose it over the standard variant, you won’t be missing much and its more affordable price tag makes it the easy choice.

However, if you want that built-in storage and support for Bluetooth calls, then you can choose the Amazfit GTR 2, though we will advise you to pick it up when it is on sale as it doesn’t pack enough features to justify its current price tag.

Last week, Huami confirmed the arrival of Amazfit GTR 2 to India. Now, ahead of December 17 launch, the pricing and features of the wearable have been revealed.

Amazfit GTR 2 India Price, Availability

As reported by XDADevelopers, Amazfit GTR 2 price has been revealed on Flipkart, and it’s official website. You can take a look at the price of the Classic, and Sports edition below:

• Class Edition- ₹13,499($183)*

As mentioned above, the Amazfit GTR 2 will be available for purchase on both the Amazfit website and Flipkart after the official launch. Now, the device is up for pre-orders on the official website whereas Flipkart shows the  ‘Coming soon’ message and a ‘Notify Me’ button. Additionally, the Amazfit website says the Delivery will start from December 17 suggesting the sale date.

*- users who pre-order the fitness tracker before the launch date will get an additional strap for free.

Amazfit GTR 2 Specifications, Features

Although Huami lists the specifications and features of the GTR 2, we already know that from the China launch back in September. The wearable is merely a fitness tracker but hides under the look of a Smartwatch. It comes in two modes- Classic and Sports Edition.

Measuring 46.4*46.4*10.7mm, the GTR 2 weighs 31.5g(Sport) and 39g(Classic) and comes in Obsidian Black color. You get a Round display upfront and two circular crowns on the right side. Amazfit says the body is made of Aluminum alloy(Sport), Stainless steel(Classic), and the touch screen with tempered glass, Anti-fingerprint, and ODLC coating.

It features a 1.39-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 454×454, 450 nits brightness, and 326 PPI. For connectivity, you get built-in GPS, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and Wi-Fi (2.4GHz). A 471mAh battery backs all this and it charges via a Magnetic charging stand. Amazfit claims that one charge will give a typical battery life of up to 14 days.

As for features, the GTR 2 has a self-developed BioTracker, 2 PPG with blood oxygen monitoring. It also supports 24-hr heart rate monitoring, stress and sleep monitor,  12 sport modes, PAI health assessment, Amazon Alexa built-in, and more. Apart from GTR 2, Amazfit has already confirmed that it will launch the Amazfit GTS 2, and GTS 2 Mini in India.

Huami launched Amazfit GTR 2 alongside Amafit GTS 2 in late September in its home country China. More than a month later, the duo made their debut in global markets at the end of October. Now, the company has revealed to launch the first model in the series in India on December 17.

In a press release, Huami confirmed that it will be bringing the entire Amazfit GT 2 series to India. For those unaware, the series consists of three models namely Amazfit GTR 2, Amazfit GTS 2, and the recently unveiled Amazfit GTS 2 Mini.

For now, the firm has confirmed to launch the first wearable in the series – Amazfit GTR 2 in India on December 17. This is the only model in the series to feature a circular display and it is denoted by the ‘R’ in its name, which stands for ‘Round’.

Like any other Huami wearable product, the Amazfit GTR 2 is a fitness tracker disguised as a smartwatch. It is the successor to the original Amazfit GTR launched in 2019. Since the company debuted its predecessor in India, it was obvious that the brand would bring its successor to the country.

Having said that, we expect the company to debut the global variant in India with Amazon Alexa and 3GB internal storage, instead of the Chinese variant that comes with Xiaomi XiaoAI voice assistant and 4GB internal storage.

A new update is rolling out to the Amazfit GTR 2 and Amazfit GTS 2 smartwatches. The update brings new features to the two watches, with the key one being support for more sports modes.

According to an official Weibo post, the update is currently available only for Android users. The iOS update has been delayed as it has not yet passed the iOS app store review as a result of the Thanksgiving Holiday in the US. The update arrives as version 5.6.0 for Android and has already been reviewed by the various Android app stores.

Huami says the update brings a new motion recognition function. It also increases the number of supported sports modes to 90. The manufacturer had promised during the launch of the two watches that an update will increase the supported sports modes from 12 to 90.

Users will also be able to edit the list of supported sports modes so that they can bring their favorite sports to the top of the list. The changelog also says that the smartwatches will not light up every time a new message alert comes in.

This new update is the third firmware update for the Amazfit GTS 2 and Amazfit GTR 2 since they were announced in September. The two watches have AMOLED displays but of different shapes and sizes – a 1.65-inch rectangular display for the GTS 2 and a 1.39-inch circular display for the GTR 2.

Both watches have 4GB of storage (3GB for the global version), built-in GPS+GLONASS, a SpO2 sensor, a heart rate sensor, XiaoAI voice assistant (Alexa for the global version), NFC, and a battery life of up to 7 days for the Amazfit GTS and up to 14 days for the Amazfit GTR. The two watches are priced at $179.

Huami had a global event today during which it announced the global versions of the Amazfit GTR 2 and Amazfit GTS 2 smartwatches. Unfortunately, the Amazfit Smart Scale was not unveiled at the event.

The Amazfit GTR 2 and Amazfit GTS 2 were first announced last month in China, however, their global versions come with slightly different features. Since we already covered the specs of the two watches when they launched in China, we will only list the new features of the global version as well as price and availability details.

Amazon Alexa Voice Assistant

The Amazfit GTR 2 and Amazfit GTS 2 swap the XiaoAI assistant on the Chinese models for Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant. The voice assistant works offline too and there are more than 65 offline voice commands. Huami says the Alexa voice assistant will be available in 15 languages.

Built-in Storage

The Chinese version also has built-in storage but the global version comes with 3GB of storage space, unlike the Chinese version that has 4GB. Huami says users will be able to store up to 600 songs on the smartwatch

Price and Availability

The Amazfit GTS 2 and Amazfit GTR 2 will sell for $179 in the US and £159 in the UK. The GTR 2 will go on sale in the US and UK on October 30 while the GTS 2 will go on sale on November 1 in the US. The Amazfit GTS 2 will be available in the UK on November 15. Pre-order starts today in the US for both watches.

The watches will also be sold in Spain, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Russia, Italy, Indonesia, and Singapore.

Buyers will be able to get the Amazfit GTR 2 in Obisidian Black while the Amazfit GTS 2 will be available in Midnight Black, Desert Gold, and Urban Grey.

Fresh from launching the Amazfit Bip U in India and the Amazfit Pop in China, Huami has another launch, this time, a global one, set for Tuesday, October 27.

The announcement was made on Twitter by the official Amazfit account, and the tweet teases the arrival of the global version of the Amazfit GTR 2. Huami is also expected to announce the Amazfit GTS 2 on the same day.

The Amazfit GTR 2 and Amazfit GTS 2 were announced in China last month at an offline conference, however, Tuesday’s event will most likely be live-streamed. The two smartwatches bring new features such as blood oxygen saturation measurement, built-in storage, and improvements in heart rate measurement and sleep tracking. The two smartwatches also feature a refined design.

The global versions of the two watches should pack practically the same features save for the replacement of the XiaoAI voice assistant with Amazon’s Alexa assistant.

With respect to price, the Amazfit GTR 2 and Amazfit GTS 2 both sell for ¥999 in China which converts to about $149/€126. We expect a global price of €149 since they will be announced first in Europe. However, the classic version of the Amazfit GTR 2 which is ¥1099 (~€139) should cost more. We also expect the Amazfit Bip U to get a European launch on Tuesday.

Huami has just announced two new wearable products in the company’s first offline launch conference earlier today (22nd September 2020). In the event, the Amazfit GTR 2 and Amazfit GTS 2 were unveiled, which arrive with various improvements alongside certain new features.

Amazfit GTR 2

The Huami Amazfit GTR 2 is the second iteration of the GTR series and arrives with a 14 days long battery life. It also features new health-related features like blood oxygen detection and can also monitor sleep patterns. The wearable is built with a 3D glass on the top which is surrounded by a ceramic bezel. Huami claims that each watch goes through 35 processes and over 27 hours of polishing. The glass is also coated with a diamond-like carbon coating to prevent any scratches during use, with a 9H hardness comparable to sapphire.

The display is a 1.39 inch AMOLED panel with a 328 PPI that has a maximum brightness of 450 nits. It is also slimmer than the previous generation and features two crowns on the right side. Two versions of the new smartwatch can be purchased, which includes a class model that has a stainless steel body and leather strap or a sports model that features an aluminum alloy body with a silicone strap.

New Health Tracking and Assessment System

The Amazfit GTR 2 is equipped with the latest BioTracker 2 PPG optical sensor that enables it to check the blood oxygen saturation levels alongside mapping the user’s heart rate. Huami said that the saturation measurements can reach up to 96 percent, which is almost the same as a professional oximeter that is used specifically for the task. The company has also developed a new sleep engine that can run with the blood oxygen detection feature to map the breathing cycles of the user during sleep.

In other words, this maps the blood oxygen levels at night as well, which is a feature that is likely inspired by the ongoing pandemic. The wearable also has a built-in PAI health assessment system that converts the various health data gathered over time into values that can be read later on through the use of algorithms. The Amazfit GTR 2 also features 12 different sports modes, which it can automatically detect, and has a water resistance of up to 50 meters. It also features essential connectivity options like Bluetooth and can connect with wireless earphones as well.

For storage, 4GB of internal storage is also offered and users can store music locally on the device. The latest Huami wearable is supported by both Android and iOS smartphones, features the XiaoAI voice assistant, and can even connect to WiFi to download music directly without a paired handset. This also allows the device to support GPS and GLONASS positioning systems. Its battery life can last for up to 14 days with regular use and about 38 days when used just as a basic watch. The device still supports NFC for various payments and other security features as well.

Amazfit GTS 2

The other wearable that Huami announced in the press conference was the Amazfit GTS 2. This device has a thinner and lighter design in comparison to the GTR 2 but still features the same “roundness, integration, and immersion,” in other words, a similar diamond-like coating for added protection. Unlike the GTR 2 however, the Amazfit GTS 2 features a rectangular 1.65 inch AMOLED display with rounded corners. It also has 450 nits of maximum brightness and a 341 PPI density for clear images.

The gadget has an anodized metallic body that arrives in three colors, namely obsidian black, streamer gold, and dolphin gray. Similar to GTR 2, it also features 12 sports modes and the company claims that it will support up to 90 different modes in the future. The Amazfit GTS 2 is also quite similar in terms of health-related prowess with the GTR 2 a well, with it also having the same PAI health system and smart functions. Its battery life lasts for about 7 days with regular use and 20 days when used as a simple watch.

Just like the Amazfit GTR 2, the GTS 2 also has onboard storage. It also has a microphone and speaker so users can take calls on their watch.

Price and Availability

The Amazfit GTR 2 is priced and 999 Yuan (roughly 146 US Dollars) for the Sports variant and 1,099 Yuan (roughly 162 US Dollars) for the Class variant. On the other hand, the GTS 2 is priced at 999 Yuan and both the smartwatches will be available through online sales on 23rd September 2020. It will be available through major Chinese online retailers like JD.com, Tmall, Xiaomi Youpin, Huami’s own stores, and more.

After teasing new products a month ago, Huawei announced that it will launch Amazfit GTR 2 and GTS 2 on September 22. Before the launch tomorrow, let’s look at all the features that are coming with the two smartwatches.

Amazfit GTR 2 and GTS 2 will be direct successors of the earlier launched GTR and GTS. Last year, both the GTR and GTS launched with AMOLED display and similar sensors. That is likely to continue this year as well. However, they are likely to differ in a few other specifications like battery and prices.

Amazfit GTR 2 and GTS 2 Design

Design-wise, both the GTR 2 and GTS 2 will follow their predecessors’ style. The GTR 2 will have a round dial while the GTS 2 will follow the sort of a squircle design. Both the smartwatches will have a premium build with metal casing and retain the AMOLED displays with slight curves towards the edges. The GTS 2, however, has a revamped side where the crown protrudes from the inside on the right. So far, only the black strap is visible in teasers but we can expect more on Tuesday.

Specifications and Features

Anyways, the main highlight of the GTR 2 and GTS 2 will be the blood-oxygen monitoring solution. In fact, Huami’s CEO confirmed this in a post on Weibo and also teased that the devices will have better blood-oxygen and sleep monitoring than rivals like Apple. To recall, the company launched the OxygenBeats engine back in June which eliminates signal noise and improves accuracy by around 50%.

Teasers also show that the watches will use a cluster of LEDs(Green, Red, Infrared) like the Apple Watch Series 6 for accurate measurements. Further, we can expect other sensors like ambient light, Biotracking, air pressure, geomagnetic sensors from predecessors.

Apart from these, Huami has confirmed standalone music playback and said that smartwatches will come with NetEase Cloud music, improved health and fitness features by partnering with Prudential, and an integrated Xiao AI assistant that works online and offline. Huami, through a video, showed that the Xiao AI will work seamlessly and better than Apple’s Siri.

Amazfit GTR 2 and GTS 2: Expected Price

We can expect other features like Wi-Fi, bigger battery, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS, GLONASS, water-resistance, and more. As for the price, Huami is known for aggressive pricing and hence, we can expect both the smartwatches to slot somewhere between the $100-150 segment. Let’s wait until Tuesday to confirm the same.

Another day, another new info about the upcoming Amazfit GTR 2. Today, the manufacturer has revealed that its upcoming smartwatch will have an AI Assistant.

Posts made by the official Huami and Xiao AI Weibo accounts have revealed that the Amazfit GTR 2 will have Xiaomi’s Xiao AI smart assistant pre-installed. The smart assistant is found in several devices already including smartphones, smart TVs, smart speakers, and smart displays. It is also available on Xiaomi’s own smartwatch, the Mi Watch.

Huami also revealed that the assistant will work not only online but also offline. The manufacturer also released a video comparing the Amazfit GTR 2’s smart assistant to that of the Apple Watch which has Siri on board.

Seeing as the watch will be getting an AI assistant in China, then the rumors about the global version getting Amazon’s Alexa AI assistant should be true since Xiao AI is sort of limited to China.

Huami has also revealed that its upcoming watch will come with NetEase Cloud Music. The watchmaker also announced that it has partnered with health app maker, Prudential, to bring the features and services of its Pulse app to Amazfit smartwatches and fitness trackers.

The Pulse by Prudential app offers features such as symptoms checker, online consultation, and health assessment. We believe some of these features will be accessed via the Zepp app for compatible Huami products.

The Amazfit GTR 2 and Amazfit GTS 2 smartwatches will be unveiled next week but we don’t have to wait that long to know what Huami’s new products look like. The manufacturer has shared a poster that gives us an early look at both products.

As seen above, the Amazfit GTR 2 has a more classy look. The bezels are smaller and the glass covering the display tapers at the edge where it meets the watch case. It also appears the overall thickness has been reduced. The image shows that Amazfit GTR 2 will ship with a black leather strap. Of course, there will be other variants too.

For the Amazfit GTS 2, Huami is sticking to a square dial and not switching to a round dial as previously reported. We think this is a good decision seeing as not everyone likes round dials.

Huami has switched up the design and it looks less like the Apple Watch now. The display is still curved at the edges but the gray watch frame now encloses the single button on the right. Attached to the watch is a matching rubber strap.

Alongside the image of the watches, Huami has also confirmed that the GTR 2 and GTS 2 will have support for blood oxygen detection. The Weibo post by the company’s CEO also reveals that there is also a new feature that tracks breathing while sleeping. The breathing score given to the user will be based on the fatigue level during the day and if the user snores at night.

The Amazfit GTR 2 and Amazfit GTS 2 are scheduled to launch in China on September 22.

Today, Huami announced it will have a launch event next week. The launch will be for the new Amazfit GTR 2 and Amazfit GTS 2 smartwatches. Alongside the poster for the event, Huami’s CEO, Huang Wang, also shared a post that talks about the challenges in design and how theirs and Apple’s own smartwatches overlap.

The launch is scheduled for Tuesday, September 22 at 2 PM (Beijing Time) and it will be held at the Black Sugar Box Art Center in Beijing. While the poster above doesn’t specifically say which products will be announced, the invite (pictured below) confirms it is for the GTR 2 and GTS 2.

In the post written by the CEO, he cited how difficult it was to design the new smartwatches while focusing on three things – stylish appearance, long battery life, and great health features.

The post also mentioned the overlapping relationship between Apple and Amazfit Watches. Last year’s Amazfit GTS looks like Apple’s own watches and there are reports that the GTS 2 has ditched the square display for a round dial.

The top executive adds that he is looking forward to Apple’s own launch event today and what new features their new watches will have such as support for Blood Oxygen detection. The new Amazfit GTR 2 and GTS 2 should also have support for SpO2 detection and stress monitoring as the features are now visible on the Zepp app.

Huami recently announced a new smartwatch called the Amazfit Neo but we already know more new products are on the way including successors to last year’s Amazfit GTR and Amazfit GTS and a smart scale. Now, the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) has certified the Amazfit GTR 2.

The listing for the new watch was published on September 11 and it reveals the Amazfit GTR 2 has the model number “A1952”. It also revealed it will connect via Bluetooth 5.0.

Leaks have revealed that the Amazfit GTR 2 is codenamed “Lisbon”. The watch should have a round AMOLED display like its predecessor and be available in two sizes. With respect to features, we expect it should have more sports modes, an improved heart rate sensor, and hopefully, a SpO2 monitor. There is also a possibility that the international version of the watch will have Amazon’s Alexa assistant.

Since the Amazfit GTR 2 and Amazfit Smart Scale have both been certified by the Bluetooth SIG, we expect the Amazfit GTS 2 will follow suit soon and the launch of all three devices should be on the horizon.

Huami is expected to announce new Amazfit products soon. Among the expected products are successors to the Amazfit GTR and Amazfit GTS. Today, the manufacturer released an official teaser hinting at the arrival of new products.

The teaser was posted on Weibo and it hints at the new products launching this autumn. Autumn begins in September, which means there should be a series of launches next month.

The Amazfit GTR 2 and Amazfit GTS 2 are expected to come with AMOLED displays like their predecessors. However, it has been reported that the GTS 2 may have a round dial rather than a square one. Other features reported to be present in the 2nd-gen GTS 2 are NFC, Alexa voice assistant, and a new feature called Smart Crown.

Huami should also launch its very first smart scale which has already received Bluetooth certification. There has also been a mention of another smartwatch called the Amazfit Neo. Nothing is known about the specs of the Neo save for its codename which is “Tokyo”.
