Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K and the Fire TV Stick 4K Max differ significantly in terms of streaming capabilities. The Fire TV Stick 4K features a quad-core 1.7 GHz processor, 1.5 GB of RAM, and Wi-Fi 6. It is typically priced at approximately $49.99. It offers support for 4K Ultra HD with Dolby Vision, HDR, HDR10+, and Dolby Atmos sound. Conversely, the Fire TV Stick 4K Max boasts a speedier quad-core 2.0 GHz processor, 2 GB RAM, and Wi-Fi 6E for improved connectivity.

The standard 4K version includes all of the same features as this one, as well as HDMI ARC, Live View Picture-in-Picture, and Auto Low Latency Mode for games. Extra controls are also included on the remote to facilitate operations. Nevertheless, the 4K Max is an ideal choice for gamers and streamers who desire the most advanced experience, as it offers superior performance and a broader range of features, all at a cost of approximately $59.99. If you are on a limited budget, the Fire TV Stick 4K remains a viable option for high-quality 4K streaming.

The Amazon Fire TV interface has been limited to external devices until now. Panasonic‘s latest announcement changes the game, introducing OLED TVs with built-in Fire TV capabilities. This launch will definitely shake up the smart TV sector, as it offers users an integrated streaming experience without the need for additional equipment.

Both TV Models are powered by Panasonic’s HCX Pro AI Processor MK II

The collaboration between Panasonic and Amazon has led to the launch of two OLED TV models, the Panasonic Z95A and Z93A, varying in size from 55 to 77 inches. This partnership signals a growing trend in the TV industry towards more integrated, user-friendly experiences. While the availability of these models in the U.S. remains uncertain, their introduction reflects a global strategy to enhance the convenience and quality of home entertainment systems.

These OLED TVs are not just about integrated streaming; they boast the latest in display and audio technology. The inclusion of Dolby Vision IQ Precision Detail and Panasonic’s HCX Pro AI Processor MK II in these models demonstrates a commitment to providing a superior viewing experience. This technology adjusts screen lighting for optimal detail without compromising image quality, making these TVs appealing to both general viewers and gaming enthusiasts.

The sound quality is another highlight, with Panasonic partnering with Technics to create a 360 Soundscape Pro sound system. This system features multidirectional speakers and Dolby Atmos support, promising an immersive audio experience.

In addition to their technical prowess, these TVs are designed with modern lifestyles in mind. Features like far-field microphones for voice control, a smart home dashboard, and compatibility with Apple AirPlay and HomeKit cater to the needs of a connected, smart home environment.

While the price and availability details are still under wraps, Panasonic’s venture into OLED TVs with built-in Fire TV is a bold move. It showcases the evolving synergy between smart home technology and entertainment, offering consumers a more streamlined and immersive way to enjoy their favorite content.

According to new study originating from Princeton University, smart TV boxes which are found in most houses in countries like the U.S are no exception.

If you use a device such as Roku and Amazon Fire TV, there are numerous companies that can build up a fairly comprehensive picture of what you’re watching

There’s very little oversight or awareness of their practices, including where that data is being sold.

Clearly, the sale of user data is one major reason these TV boxes have gotten cheaper over the last few years. For reference, Roku is able to sell its TV box for as less as $ 200 only because the device is subsidized by money generated from targeted advertisements. Most of us are unaware, we agree to this while signing up for the contract as these terms are buried in lengthy privacy policies that most of us are never bothered to read.

In order to interpret how much surveillance was happening within these smart TV boxes, Arvind and his co-researcher Hooman Mohajeri Moghaddam developed a bot (a robot within a computer) that automatically installed a large number of channels on both their Roku TV and Amazon Fire TV stick. The bot was programmed to replicate the behaviour pattern of a human by going through different channels and the content offered by them. Whenever the bot would confront an advertisement, it would flag that the data was being collected in the background at that time.

According to the study, 89% of all channels on Fire TV stick and 69% channels on Roku TV were collecting data anonymously. While some of these are well-known companies like Google, the rest of them are companies that were previously unheard of. While highlighting Roku, Google’s ad service DoubleClick was found on 97 percent of its channels.

To verify the claims made in the report, TheVerge mailed Google which they replied with the following statement:

Like other publishers, smart TV app developers can use Google’s ad services to show ads against their content, and we’ve helped design industry guidelines for this that enable a privacy-safe experience for users

Depending on the user’s preferences, the developer may share data with Google that’s similar to data used for ads in mobile apps or on the web

Although it is possible to turn off personalised advertisements on these TV boxes, this would only stop a user’s advertising ID from being tracked. Other details like the device serial number, Wi-Fi network could still be tracked which can be used to pinpoint the user making the opt-out option somewhat irrelevant.

Similar to TV boxes, smartphone manufacturers are often observed serving advertisements on their devices which allows them to price their offerings a little lower.

What are your thoughts on targeted ads as a means of revenue? Do you support this, as it often makes a given service or product more affordable for consumers or are you willing to retain your privacy by shelling out money from your pocket? Let us know in the comments below.

Now, the company has announced another device — Amazon Fire TV Stick Basic Edition.

This Fire TV Stick Basic Edition appears to be the renamed version of Fire TV Stick with Alexa Remote that is currently being sold in the US for $40. Nothing has changed about the Basic Edition from its predecessor, not even the physic dimensions.

The only difference is the Basic Edition’s remote, which no longer supports Alexa voice control integration. Another difference could be the operating system. The Fire TV Stick that was launched last year runs Fire OS 5 based on Android Lollipop, but it is yet unknown what Fire OS version the Basic Edition runs.

The new Amazon Fire TV Stick Basic Edition is a HDMI-dongle which plugs into the television. It allows users to access variety of media and streaming services, including Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, etc.

It is powered by a MediaTek Quad-core ARM processor clocked at 1.3GHz, coupled with Mali 450 MP4 GPU. The dongle has dual-band, dual-antenna Wi-Fi that supports 2×2 MIMO 802.11a/b/g/n/ac.

Coming to the memory, it packs 8GB of internal storage and 1GB of RAM for fluid and smooth operations of apps and games, says the company. The Fire TV Stick Basic Edition also comes with a dedicated remote.

Since this is a “basic” edition, it does not have voice support for Alexa or other voice-based search functionalities that are available with the original Fire TV. The device also has support for 1080p Full HD video streaming with the High Efficiency Video Codec, as well as Dolby Audio for a higher-quality audio experience.

Priced at $49.99, the product seems to be aimed at getting more users for the Fire TV Stick dongle and dominate the market. Amazon would also be hoping that more folks will be motivated to subscribe to Prime or Prime Video. The device will be available in more than 100 countries worldwide.
