This means the screen on the phone can refresh as low as 1Hz to save power.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">A month after the device’s release, the brand is finally making good use of the aforementioned technology by introducing a new feature. This feature is currently being <a href="https://www.ithome.com/0/602/791.htm">rolled out</a> with the latest A.09 firmware update.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">The feature in question is support for 1Hz refresh for AOD (Always-on Display). <p><span style="font-weight: 400">Anyway, it is worth noting that the official changelog for the new software update says that only select AOD styles have support for 1Hz refresh rate. Hopefully, the brand extends the compatibility in the future.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Apart from this feature, the latest update brings optimizations for portrait mode shots, white balance in third-party camera apps, night mode, system fluency, haptics effect, overall performance as well as gaming, Bluetooth earphones compatibility, carry-on card label, and WiFi performance.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">If you happen to own the Chinese variant of the OnePlus 10 Pro, then make sure to download and install the latest software update from Settings.</span></p>

Just yesterday, we had reported on the device reportedly <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/02/15/apple-iphone-13-rumor-portless-design-astrophotography/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">featuring a portless design and astrophotography</a>. Now, a new report has hinted at it sporting an <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/always-on-display/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Always On Display</a> on its OLED display.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-368472 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/iphone-se-3-2.png?x10805" alt="Apple" width="692" height="390" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/iphone-se-3-2.png 692w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/iphone-se-3-2-300x169.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 692px) 100vw, 692px" /></p>
<p>According to a <a href="https://www.slashgear.com/iphone-13-could-use-always-on-display-for-clock-battery-15659407/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>SlashGear</em> </a>report, the iPhone 13 series could arrive with this feature, or it might just be available for the higher end iPhone 13 Pro variants. The 2021 iPhone lineup will reportedly feature a new display technology that will work with OLED panels to bring Always On Display functionality to the Apple devices. For those unaware, a key advantage of OLED over LCD is that these panels don&#8217;t have to display black. The pixels can simply be turned off to only light certain parts of the screen.</p>
<p>This enables lower battery consumption, which allowed Always On Display to be a feature on certain Android smartphones and even the Apple Watch. Known Tipster Max Weinbach stated that the Cupertino based giant might utilized an LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) panel that will enable it to save on battery draw while offering a higher refresh rate along with Always On Display as well. Although, the iPhone 13&#8217;s Always On Display wouldn&#8217;t function like most Android devices.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-336286 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/OnePlus-HydrogenOS-11-AOD-Featured.png?x10805" alt="Apple" width="768" height="498" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/OnePlus-HydrogenOS-11-AOD-Featured.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/OnePlus-HydrogenOS-11-AOD-Featured-300x195.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/OnePlus-HydrogenOS-11-AOD-Featured-696x451.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/OnePlus-HydrogenOS-11-AOD-Featured-648x420.png 648w" sizes="(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></p>
<p>Apparently, the Always On Display for the upcoming iPhones would only focus on display key information like the time or the battery icons. Furthermore, notifications will only be displayed temporarily and would light up just a small section of the display without waking up the entire screen. In other words, there would probably not be a lot of customization on these smartphones. Unfortunately, this is still an unconfirmed report, so take it with a pinch of salt and stay tuned for more updates.</p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Chinese smartphone maker </span><a href="https://gizmochina.com/category/xiaomi"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Xiaomi </span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">has been launching phones with OLED display for a few years now. But the AOD functionality was only introduced late last year with MIUI 11. This option is part of the phone’s system settings and new AOD styles are added only through system updates.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">However, that will change soon as the company is testing AODs directly in the MIUI Themes app with support for designs and styles from different developers apart from the official team. This is surely good news for users of Xiaomi smartphones with an OLED display as the current selection of AOD styles is limited.</span></p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Samsung </span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">popularized custom AOD themes when it introduced the functionality with the launch of </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s7/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Galaxy S7</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> and </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s7-edge/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Galaxy S7 Edge</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">. It also allows developers to upload different styles on the Galaxy Themes app, however, most of them are paid.</span></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-large wp-image-317484 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Xiaomi-MIUI-Themes-App-Beta-AOD-Section-02-473x1024.jpg?x10805" alt="Xiaomi MIUI Themes App Beta AOD Section 02" width="473" height="1024" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Xiaomi-MIUI-Themes-App-Beta-AOD-Section-02-473x1024.jpg 473w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Xiaomi-MIUI-Themes-App-Beta-AOD-Section-02-138x300.jpg 138w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Xiaomi-MIUI-Themes-App-Beta-AOD-Section-02-194x420.jpg 194w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Xiaomi-MIUI-Themes-App-Beta-AOD-Section-02.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 473px) 100vw, 473px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">But in the case of Xiaomi, the company made MIUI Themes free with the launch of </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/MIUI-11"><span style="font-weight: 400;">MIUI 11</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> last year with an exception for certain copyrighted content. This means, the AOD styles on MIUI Themes app will be most likely free giving Xiaomi users an edge over Samsung. That doesn’t mean the developers don’t earn anything as they are now paid based on ad-revenue.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">We are not sure how Xiaomi will roll out this feature as the current implementation is deeply rooted within the system. Either the company will release a new MIUI 11 version with certain changes and fixes or it will debut on </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/MIUI-12"><span style="font-weight: 400;">MIUI 12</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> in the second half of 2020.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">OnePlus Community has played a key role in popularising the OnePlus brand since its inception. The company improves its products based on the feedback it receives from its community. Thus, to further enhance the feedback system, the brand announced the</span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/03/06/oneplus-ideas-launched-new-program-to-receive-community-feedback-on-oxygenos/"><span style="font-weight: 400;"> OnePlus IDEAS program</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> earlier this month, which allows community users to submit their ideas for new features on OnePlus devices.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">It has not been a month but the program seems to have worked out well for the company and the users. At present, the most liked submissions include AOD, PC Mode (similar to </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Samsung-Dex/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Samsung Dex</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">), Edge notification lights, Developer-friendly for <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Google-Camera">Google Camera</a> ports, and improvement in the alert slider.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Fortunately, OnePlus has confirmed on its official Twitter handle that Always-on Display has been added to the roadmap. But it does not say when it will be released and which devices will get it first. Going by the history of the company, we can expect this feature to debut in beta builds under the OxygenOS Laboratory section and slowly make its way to stable releases.</span></p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true">
<p lang="en" dir="ltr">The top IDEA is Always-On Display. We hear you, and our OS Product team has replied: it&#39;s on our roadmap.</p>

<p><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">OnePlus has been using AMOLED displays on its smartphones consistently since the OnePlus 3 series. But it is uncertain which devices will get the AOD feature as the </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-3/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">3 </span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">and </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-3t/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">3T</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> has already reached the end of their support. Perhaps, devices from </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-5t-international-version/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">5T</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> or </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-6-2/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">6 </span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">will be blessed with this feature.</span></p>
