Samsung has been known to be working on its next generation Exynos chipset that features a GPU from AMD. Now, an initial benchmark has revealed that the new Exynos 2200 processor with mRDNA graphics has beaten even the Apple A14 Bionic chipset as well.

The news arrives from a tweet from Tron (Via NoteBookCheck) that revealed some benchmark results between the two chipsets. Looking at these results, the Exynos 2200 achieved 170.7fps in the Manhattan 3.1 test while the A14 Bionic recorded 120fps. Similarly, in the Aztec Normal benchmark, the Exynos registered 121.4fps while the A14 only managed to reach 79.9fps. The noticeable difference in frames is also visible in the Aztec High test, with the Exynos 2200 achieving 51.5fps over the A14 Bionic’s 30fps.

These figures showcase the sizeable performance difference between the two mobile processors. Notably, the difference in performance is around the 45 percent mark, with the Exynos 2200 from the South Korean tech giant being in the clear lead. Tron further added that these results were registered back in June 2021 and the Exynos chip was running on the development beta drivers that were provided by AMD.

In other words, these can not be seen as a direct and final representation of the Exynos 2200’s performance when it ships with the upcoming Galaxy S22 series. But regardless, this still offers us a decent estimate as to what we can expect with the next generation of Samsung flagship smartphones, which would also excite its loyal customer base.

Apple is expected to unleash the iPhone 13 series in September this year. Since the launch is not too far away, the rumor mill is actively leaking information on the next-generation iPhones. Fresh information that has emerged on DigiTimes does not talk about the iPhone 13 lineup, but the next generation iPhone SE arriving next year. Recently, well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that the iPhone SE will be equipped with an updated processor. The new report also supports this claim and mentions that it may launch in the first half of 2022.

The new report states that the Cupertino-based firm is now hiring chip probing specialists through its partner Xintec. While Xintec is known as a subsidiary of TSMC, it has been supplying components to Apple since the time it launched the first iPhone SE back in 2016.

The iPhone SE 2022 (or the iPhone SE 3) is expected to feature an Apple A14 Bionic processor that fueled the iPhone 12 series last year. The company is expected to advertise as the most affordable 5G-ready iPhone.

Probably, there will not be any major design on the third-generation iPhone SE. Hence, it may continue to sport a 4.7-inch display with thick bezels and the good old Touch ID sensor. The other details of the device are under wraps.

The iPhone SE 2020 has a 4.7-inch IPS LCD screen that offers 750 x 1334 pixels, an Apple A13 Bionic chip, 3 GB of RAM, up to 256 GB of storage, and a 1,821mAh battery. For photography, it has a 7-megapixel selfie camera and a 12-megapixel rear camera with OIS support. It was introduced with a pricing of $399.

TSMC, the world’s largest chipset manufacturer, had started mass-production of 5nm chips for the past few months. Now, it is being reported that the company’s facility for the production of 5nm chips has been fully booked by Apple.

According to the latest report coming from China, the Taiwanese Semiconductor Manufacturing Company will be making chips for the iPhone 12, iPad Air, 5G iPad Pro, and the upcoming MacBook.

It seems like TSMC is giving preferential treatment to Apple given that almost one-fifth of the company’s total revenue comes from the Cupertino-based tech giant. The company reportedly started mass-production of 5nm chipset from March this year and will continue making chipsets for only for Apple this year.

As per the reports, Apple had ordered components for up to 80 million iPhone 12 units but the actual number manufactured this year may end up being 74 million at most. The remaining units would be deferred to next year.

This move from TSMC could be the reason behind Samsung having started mass-production of Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 flagship chipset. If Qualcomm wants to stick to its usual schedule of launching new Snapdragon-series flagship SoC in December, then it has to start mass-production and Samsung is the only other manufacturer having technology for making chips on 5nm node.

Apart from SD875, Samsung is also reportedly working on the production of its own Exynos 992 SoC, which could power the company’s upcoming flagship smartphones. It is also reportedly designing custom chipset for Google.

Huawei is also expected to soon launch its Kirin 9000 SoC, which is based on a 5nm chipset. The company had reportedly ordered 15 million units to TSMC but only 8.8 million units are available and now with the new sanctions, the Chinese giant won’t be able to procure more units of this chipset.

The Americal tech giant is reported to make a radical move with its iPhone 12 lineup this year. First, these handsets will be the first-ever 5G-ready iPhones from the company. Secondly, they are expected to come without a bundled charger and EarPods.

Now, as per a new tip, TSMC will be manufacturing 80 million units of 5nm A14 chip for Apple this year. But this goes against a recent report, which suggested the Cupertino-based company to only ship 15-20 million units of iPhone 12 devices in 2020.

So why Apple ordered these many units of A14 chips if it is going to ship less than half of that amount of iPhone 12 series? Maybe because the company might use the same chip or say A14X for new iPad Pros and ARM Macs.

But that does not make sense either as the iPad Pro 2020 was only introduced a few months back. Further, how can the iPhone maker expect to ship a large number of the first-gen ARM (aka Apple Silicon) Macs?

Taiwanese Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) earlier today announced its quarterly earnings for the first quarter of 2020. The company posted revenue of about 3106 billion Taiwan dollars which is an improvement of 2.1% from last quarter. Compared to the same period last year (Q1 2019), the revenue increased by 42%.

In the first quarter, TSMC’s advanced process contributed a lot to the company’s revenue. The new 7nm process contributed 35% of the Q1 revenue, the 16nm process contributed 19% of the revenue, and the 10nm contributed 0.5% of the Q1 revenue. Overall, the advanced process is said to have contributed 55% of the entire revenue and became an important growth point.

After the 7nm process, TSMC will also mass-produce the next-generation 5nm process. Previously, mass-production was billed to commence in the first half of this year but due to the COVID 19 pandemic, the mass production has been delayed. Mass production is now expected to commence in the second half of the year. Nevertheless, because TSMC’s 5nm process is the only one in mass production globally, it is expected to account for 10% of its annual revenue.

According to official data, compared to 7nm (first-generation DUV ), the new 5nm chip based on the Cortex A72 core can provide 1.8 times the logic density, 15% faster speed, and 30% lower power consumption. The SRAM process is also very excellent and it has a reduced area.

The 5nm process will be utilised mainly for the Apple A14 and Huawei Hisilicon Kirin 1020 chipsets. The A14 Bionic chipset is said to have a peak frequency of 3.1GHz .

As for the Kirin 1020, the specifications are yet to be confirmed. However, previous rumours tipped the SoC to feature an upgraded Cortex-A77 architecture, but there are also rumours that Huawei will skip the A77 generation and go directly to the future Cortex-A78 architecture, which is an intergenerational upgrade. What can be confirmed at present is that the Kirin 1020 will be featured on the Mate 40 series in the second half of the year.

The current Geekbench chat for iOS devices shows that the iPhone 11 Pro Max is leading the list with A13 Bionic chipset and single-core test of 1,330 points.

As for the manufacturing processor, the A12 was built using 7nm process, A13 with enhanced 7nm process with fast clock speeds and lower power consumption and now the upcoming A14 is said to be manufactured using TSMC‘s new 5nm process. Apple is also expected to pack LPDDR5 RAM, which many flagship phones are already offering.
