<p>Artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly widespread. Companies are constantly developing new AI technologies to compete with or integrate with OpenAI&#8217;s ChatGPT. Cisco is the latest company to join this race, but not in the way you might think. Instead of developing new AI software, Cisco is launching new AI networking chips. These chips aim to rival the offerings from Broadcom and Marvell. Here are the details&#8230;</p>

<h2><strong>New <strong>Cisco</strong></strong> <strong>AI Networking Chips Aim to Speed Up AI and Machine Learning Tasks</strong></h2>

<p>Cisco has launched new AI networking chips that are designed to compete with the offerings from Broadcom and Marvell. These chips are part of Cisco&#8217;s SiliconOne series and are being tested by five of the six major cloud providers, including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/cisco-new-ai-chips-1024x576.jpg?x10805" alt="Cisco AI chip" class="wp-image-546570" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/cisco-new-ai-chips-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/cisco-new-ai-chips-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/cisco-new-ai-chips-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/cisco-new-ai-chips-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/cisco-new-ai-chips-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/cisco-new-ai-chips-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/cisco-new-ai-chips.jpg 1280w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>The new chips are said to be the most powerful networking chips in the market for AI/ML workloads. They can connect up to 32,000 GPUs together, which can help to speed up AI and machine learning tasks. Cisco also says that the chips can help to reduce the number of switches needed in a network, which can further improve performance.</p>

<p>As the use of AI grows, so does the demand for AI networking chips. These chips help companies build and deploy AI applications more quickly and efficiently. AI applications are becoming more complex and demanding, which means that they need high-performance chips. Cisco is meeting the growing demand for AI networking chips.</p>

<p> The company&#8217;s new chips are powerful and energy-efficient, which is important for AI applications. This could help companies save money on their energy bills. Cisco is a major player in the networking industry, and its new chips could help the company to gain market share in this growing market.</p>

<p>According to an <a href="https://www.etnews.com/20200803000299?mc=em_101_00001" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>ETNews</em> </a>report, Samsung had received a Cisco contract earlier this year to design and manufacture chips. These chips will be used in Cisco&#8217;s next generation telecommunications network, as stated by a source close to the matter. Similarly, Samsung has also managed to secure orders from the search engine giant Google.</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/08/04/oppo-k7-5g-with-6-4-inch-display-sd765g-32mp-selfie-camera-48mp-quad-cameras-launched-for-1999-yuan-286/">OPPO K7 5G with 6.4-inch display, SD765G, 32MP selfie camera, 48MP quad cameras launched for 1,999 Yuan (~$286)</a></strong></h6>
<p>The company will be design and manufacture semiconductor chips that will be used for sensors that can monitor and track body movements. Generally, foundries manufacture chips that have already designed but these new chips will be custom made to offer specific features and technologies to both firms. In other words, these new chips are made from the ground up, tailored specifically for both Cisco and Google.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-294962 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/1512415935-6757.jpg?x10805" alt="Samsung" width="620" height="464" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/1512415935-6757.jpg 620w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/1512415935-6757-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/1512415935-6757-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/1512415935-6757-265x198.jpg 265w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/1512415935-6757-561x420.jpg 561w" sizes="(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px" /></p>
<p>This will have Samsung both design the chip and mass produce it. Cisco is the world&#8217;s largest network equipment manufacturer in the world with sales reaching $50 billion every year and with Google aiming at expanding its IoT lineup, Samsung will likely face additional orders. Meaning, the newly acquired orders could have the South Korean brand take a step closer in also becoming the world&#8217;s largest foundry as well.</p>

<p>A few recent changes in the US Government&#8217;s FRAND agreements (fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory) have enabled Huawei to sue the aforementioned companies. In other words, the amendments have made it easier for Huawei to target these companies. The Chinese tech giant&#8217;s response to the US sanctions against starts from patent infringement claims Verizon for its own technology and products that it had acquired from Cisco and Hewlett-Packard.</p>

<p>At the moment, Huawei is demanding royalty payments for hundreds of patents. Notably, sources claimed that this event might also be leveraged by the Chinese company to compel court discovery on Verizon&#8217;s and its suppliers&#8217; confidential information. In simplers terms, Huawei would be able to gain in-depth access to its competitor&#8217;s products and technology.</p>

<p>The turn of events was unexpected, to say the least, as the US Government, in particular, did not consider that Huwaei would turn the US patent law against American companies. Additionally, this could also lead to further harm to local companies in the near future as well. So stay tuned as we will be providing more updates on the matter.</p>

To counterattack these harsh measures, China is readying its own ‘Unreliable Entity List’ according to a report by Global Times.</span></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-282335 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/US-China-flag.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="780" height="520" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/US-China-flag.jpg 780w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/US-China-flag-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/US-China-flag-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/US-China-flag-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/US-China-flag-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 780px) 100vw, 780px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">The Chinese Ministry of Commerce’s (MOFCOM) Unreliable Entity List will include “</span><i><span style="font-weight: 400">foreign organizations, individuals and companies that block or shut supply chains, or take discriminatory measures for non-commercial reasons, whose actions endanger the business of Chinese companies as well as global consumers and companies</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400">”.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">The listed companies will have to “</span><i><span style="font-weight: 400">face necessary legal and administrative measures and the Chinese public will also be warned against it to reduce risks</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400">”.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">According to insiders, the Chinese government is targeting the following US companies that are largely dependent on China.</span></p>
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Apple/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Apple</span></a></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Qualcomm"><span style="font-weight: 400">Qualcomm</span></a></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400"><span style="font-weight: 400">Cisco</span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400"><span style="font-weight: 400">Boeing</span></li>
</ul>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">The problem for </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Huawei"><span style="font-weight: 400">Huawei </span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">begun to pile up in early 2018 when AT&amp;T dropped its plans to sell the Mate 10 Pro on account of pressure from the US government. This was later followed by warnings from the FBI, CIA, NSA, and three other US intelligence agencies to stop using or buying products from Huawei and </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ZTE"><span style="font-weight: 400">ZTE</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Also, these companies were later banned from supplying telecom equipment for 5G infrastructure. The US officials even warned other countries to avoid using technologies from these two brands.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Then in May of 2019, Huawei was finally added to the ‘Entity List’ and this led the company to lose its GMS (Google Mobile Services) license. Since then, the sales of Huawei and </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Honor"><span style="font-weight: 400">Honor </span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">branded smartphones tanked globally but it<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/05/07/huawei-dominates-china-smartphone-market-in-q1-2020-idc-report/"> surged high in China</a>.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Huawei has developed its own HMS (Huawei Mobile Services) to fill the void left by GMS for global markets. However, the company’s AppGallery still lacks a number of most-used apps and most users depend on Google apps, which are not available on new Huawei/Honor smartphones anymore.</span></p>
