Xiaomi India announced the Redmi 9 Prime smartphone in India today. It is the same phone that is selling as Redmi 9 in China, With a starting price of Rs. 9,999 (~$133), the Redmi 9 Prime manages to impress its fans with features like FHD+ resolution supporting display, gaming-focused processor, a behemoth battery, and quad rear cameras.

The Redmi 9 Prime is a splash-proof device with an Aura 360 design that brings features like 3D unibody with concentric circles around the rear cameras and anti-fingerprint ripple texture feature for better grip. The Redmi 9 Prime has a 6.53-inch IPS LCD display with waterdrop notch. It delivers Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels, and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The TUV certified screen is shielded by Gorilla Glass 3 panel. The screen of the device features a pre-installed screen protector. The smartphone is loaded with MIUI 11 based Android 10 OS.
The gaming-centric Helio G80 chipset by MediaTek powers the Redmi 9 Prime. The phone comes with 4 GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 64 GB / 128 GB of storage. There is a dedicated microSD card slot on the phone.
The Redmi 9 Prime has an AI-driven quad-camera setup that includes a 118-degree 8-megapixel ultrawide lens, a 12-megapixel main shooter, a 2-megapixel depth assist lens, and a 5-megapixel macro lens with 2cm focal length. The Redmi 9 Prime supports AI scene detection, kaleidoscope mode, autofocus, palm shutter, and LED flash. At front, the Redmi 9 Prime flaunts an 8-megapixel selfie camera with portrait mode.
The Redmi 9 Prime is packed with a 5,020mAh battery that offers 2 days of battery life. The retail box comes with a 10W charging through USB-C. Users can take advantage of 18W charging by purchase an 18W rapid charger from Xiaomi India’s stores. Other features that are available on the Redmi 9 Prime are wireless FM radio, dual SIM slot, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, 1217 ultra-linear speaker, USB-C port, and a 3.5mm audio jack. Lastly, Xiaomi is offering a transparent protective case in the retail package of the device.
