In a recent disclosure, Microsoft has admitted to a critical vulnerability within its mainstream Azure cloud service, which could potentially expose user accounts to unauthorized access. The vulnerability, named “nOAuth” by Descope, a renowned security software company, is present within Azure’s Active Directory, allowing hackers to exploit it and gain access to third-party websites using compromised Azure accounts. To exploit this vulnerability, hackers simply need to create an Azure account with administrator privileges and modify the account’s email address to that of an unsuspecting user. By utilizing the “Sign in with Microsoft” feature, hackers can easily log in to third-party websites, maliciously using the compromised Azure account.

This vulnerability will potentially affect a substantial portion of Azure users

The “nOAuth” vulnerability in Microsoft Azure’s Active Directory poses a range of risks to the system and its users. It enables hackers to gain unauthorized access to user accounts, potentially leading to data breaches, account takeovers, and manipulation of sensitive information. Compromised Azure accounts can be exploited to log in to third-party websites, putting those services and their users at risk as well. The consequences include financial loss, reputational damage, and potential legal ramifications. Prompt action from Microsoft, such as patching the vulnerability, strengthening security measures, and educating users, is essential to mitigate these risks and protect user accounts and data. User vigilance and reporting any suspicious activities are also crucial in combating this vulnerability. Imer Cohen, the Chief Security Officer at Descope, pointed out that this vulnerability stems from a flaw in Microsoft’s authentication design, leading to the emergence of the “nOAuth” vulnerability. The impact of this breach is significant, potentially affecting a substantial portion of Azure users.

Following the discovery of the breach, Microsoft acknowledged the vulnerability and issued a warning to all users, urging them to be cautious and avoid sharing their email information. By addressing this vulnerability, Microsoft is trying its best to uphold its commitment to user security and take proactive measures to safeguard its cloud service. Users are advised to remain vigilant, regularly update their account settings, and implement strong, unique passwords to mitigate the risk of unauthorized access.

Earlier today (14th December 2022), the Chinese smartphone maker released devices like the OHealth H1 family monitor, Air Glass 2, and more. Apart from physical products, the brand even announced a new smart cloud service as well, which is dubbed the AndesBrain. The name of this cloud based technology was based on the real world Andes, which is the longest mountain range on the planet. The Andes Smart Cloud is a cross platform service and is aimed towards not just individuals, but entire families and developers as well.

The AndesBrain basically offers online data storage and smart computing services thanks to the cloud platform. It also comes with cross integration that helps users use the service across, smartphones, tablets, and PCs as well. However, this doesn’t end just end there as the integration support will include truly wireless earbuds, smartwatches, cameras, or even smart cars. Furthermore, the service is being offered by self built data centers as well.

Notably, the company is also planning on offering infinite storage on CubeFS for Android since it integrates cloud systems into its operating system’s layers.
Notably, the two companies will also be exploring further cooperation in the future for sectors like cloud based health services. The company said that the reason it chose Amazon Cloud Technology over other cloud based firms is for its flexibility and secure cloud computing environment that it offers. This marks a major partnership that will have Huami utilize the cloud expertise of Amazon.

According to an SCMP report, Richard Yu will take over as head of the two business units of the Chinese tech giant from the current lead Huo Jinlong. The news arrives via an internal memo being seen by SCMP. Furthermore, it was also reported that the senior executive will take on his new roles officially as of 7th February 2021. Furthermore, Huo will be transferred to the company’s digital power service, which is a unit under the telecom equipment maker’ carrier business group that deals in telecommunications network operators.

As per Kitty Fok, managing director of IDC China, “AI and cloud computing are the key growth areas in China over the next few years.Putting more focus and investments in AI and cloud computing is an important strategy for Huawei to capture future opportunities.” Unfortunately, Huawei has declined to comment on the matter of its internal management reshuffling at the moment. The report also arrives as the company is currently expanding and pushing towards newer growth market.

For those unaware, US sanctions have drastically impacts the Huawei’s primary business unit, its smartphone division, and has caused it to now focus on other core areas. A while back, the company’s Founder and CEO even called for decentralization as well, while Huawei also focuses more on its cloud computing services and other ventures, including cloud gaming, AI, virtual reality and augmented reality technologies. However, it remains to be seen what new hurdles awaits the company, especially now with the arrival of the new US president, Joe Biden.

According to a GlobalTimes report, the senior official of the Chinese tech giant stated this to the staff through a recent internal email. This indicates that the company might further adjust its strategies to better face the challenges and competition. Ren said that “Because we are a company with limited power, we must do well and fine-tune the projects we are going to do. We must seize opportunities in the areas where we can, focus our energies, and do a good job in a down-to-earth manner. Only then can we truly find a better solution than others.”

The founder also discussed the company’s cloud computing businesses and even said that the company must learn from the likes of Amazon and Microsoft. As per the founder, Huawei must use its 30 years’ worth of network experience as a unique advantage in the cloud computing market and stand out in the industry. Although, he further added that “But Huawei can’t take the same path as Alibaba and Amazon, since we don’t have ‘endless money’ from the US stock market like them.”

According to Jiang Junmu, chief writer at C114.com, “Huawei’s enterprise is still limited in size and faces barriers to develop on a bigger scale, the points Ren mentioned are also some attempts the firm is going to make to try to break through the bottleneck.” Furthermore, Ren said that Huawei is currently discussing on “how to seize the opportunity of digitalization of government and enterprises, how to achieve better development in both, and how to achieve the world’s leading position.”

In other words, the founder believes that the company must “go all out” to build a large application ecosystem like Amazon to grow its Huawei Cloud business. It also has to downscale on its enterprise businesses and focus more on strengthening its software and application ecosystems that would be more beneficial to the brand at the moment.

According to an SCMP report, the senior executive of the Chinese tech giant had made the announcement in an internal speech back in November 2020. The founder had said that the company must build up its strength in cloud services and that the brand needed to also make a “breakthrough” in the field. The official added that “It is impossible for us to simply follow the same path as Alibaba and Amazon … They have access to unlimited money in the US stock market.”

“Our enterprise business needs to scale back its battlefront … If our strategy is too broad, we will lose our combat strength.” Companies like Amazon are tech conglomerates with businesses spanning e-commerce, video streaming, and even cloud computing among various other businesses as well. Unlike these firms, Huawei has mostly focused on its telecom equipment services and its popular smartphone business.

As per Ren, the company should learn from companies like Amazon and Microsoft, both of which are major names in the global cloud services field. These brands focus on infrastructure as a service (IaaS) and platform as a service (PaaS). For those unaware, customers of these companies pay a fee to utilize their computing resources such as networking and data storage. At the moment, Huawei is already a leading cloud service provider in China, alongside Alibaba and Tencent. Although, its presence in the global market is still scarce, despite there currently being a surge in demand for could services.

Kingsoft claims that it is China’s largest independent cloud based service provider and that it aims to monetize on the growing applications of networking and technology.
This is a big deal considering the public debut arrives at a time where Chinese companies are being scrutinized across the globe, especially by US investors. Other Chinese brands like Oriental Culture and MingZhu Logistics are still waiting for their public entry, but Kingsoft Cloud has had a rather quick and uneventful run to Wall Street. But will Kingsoft Cloud change the perception around Chinese companies in the US? We can only wait and find out.
