DJI has been known to be working on a new drone for a while, and now, a new leak has revealed the supposed renders of the upcoming Air 2S drone along with a few key specs.

According to a TechnikNews report, the Air 2S from the popular drone maker a features 20 megapixel shooter, which is an improvement from the 12 megapixel sensor that can be found in the previously launched Mavic Air 2. Notably, the Air 2S does not carry the ‘Mavic’ branding and was spotted in certain certification listings as well. So it is unknown if it is a direct successor or a new refresh of the Mavic Air 2.

The upcoming drone will also weigh 600 grams, which is about 30 grams heavier than its predecessor. Furthermore, the company is also including the 10 bit color space into the camera, meaning, the camera is capable of capturing over a billion colors. Similarly, the Air 2S will also support “Intelligent HDR,” which “automatically combines several recordings in order to increase the dynamic range of images without post-processing.”

Other features include the support for hyperlapse and a panorama function. Looking at the renders, the drone also features a total of four rotors and is apparently capable of reaching a maximum speed of up to 19 meters per second (about 68 kilometers per hour), which is the same as the Mavic Air 2. It also rated to operate in a maximum altitude of 6,000 meters above sea level. Just like the Mavic Air 2, the Air 2S also houses 8GB of onboard storage. Another new addition includes “Master Shots,” which has the drone perform ten different maneuvers of a subject and make short recordings.

This will be supplemented by the company’s “Spotlight 2.0” and “Point of Interest 3.0” along with the “ActiveTrack 4.0.” Additionally, the DJI Air 2S will also be upgraded to autopilot version 4.0. This would allow it to detect objects in all four directions and avoid them. The drone is expected to be powered by a 3,500mAh battery, which had been first confirmed in a previous FCC listing. While the exact pricing and launch date are unknown, it is expected to be around 800 Euros (roughly 950 US Dollars) and could be announced sometime this month.

Josh Hug, a UC Berkeley professor, was out with his children using his DJI Mavic Air 2 drone, when he accidentally discovered a woman who seemed incapacitated by the waves and even managed to rescue her.

Hugs stated that “We were just finding things to do with the kids. Brought the drone, kind of a lark.” He further added that “I’ve always been fascinated by gigantic waves” and had headed to the coast after he heard of a high surf warning. When Josh reached the Pacifica State Beach, he launched his drone high above and was admiring the view of the waves crashing into the rocks. However, he soon saw something amiss in the waters, as per an NBC report.

Hugs said that “I noticed there was somebody who looked like they just gotten owned by a wave, knocked over. Someone with a dog and seemed to be rolling with the wave and I was like, ‘That’s not good.” He rushed over to her location and found that a woman was lying face down in the sand as waves came crashing into her. “As I tried to help her up she just couldn’t move. She was incapacitated in some way. At this point, it became very clear this was a life or death situation.”

Josh managed to eventually get help in dragging the woman out of harm’s way and even managed to get medical professionals to arrive on the scene soon after. His drone managed to capture some scenes of him dragging the woman off of the shore. Jeff Huntze, Battalion Chief with North County Fire Authority, called Josh a hero and said that “If nobody had come that day she would have succumbed to the water.”

The DJI Mavic Air 2 is the company’s latest unmanned drone in the more affordable Mavic Air series. It was recently announced with one of its highlighting features being the 8K hyperlapse capture. But unfortunately, it seems like the Mavic Air 2 currently suffers from some serious issues during the 8K hyperlapse mode.

For those unaware, the hyperlapse feature was first introduced for the Mavic 2 series of drones and allowed users to take a series of images while the drone is flying. These images are then combined into a time lapse videos with motion, with all of the processing being handled by the drone itself. This results in a few very picturesque and interesting captures.

In the Mavic Air 2, the drone is capable of hyperlapse in 8K through its 48 megapixel camera. Although, it suffers from a few major issues, including a large amount of shake is visible in the captured video, which is only found in the 8K footage and not in 1080p. Furthermore, DJI hasn’t offered hyperlapse in 4K for some unknown reason along with a prolonged 6 second gap in between 8K shots, in comparison to just 2 seconds on 1080p video capture.

The issues don’t end there, as the 8K hyperlapse can sometimes get corrupted. The reason for this is the method of capture, as the DJI Mavic Air 2 uses four 12 megapixel photos stitched together from its 48 megapixel camera. This sometimes results in a few video editing softwares not being able to detect or display up to 2 of the 4 stitched images, with Adobe Premiere Pro being the only program running the footage as intended.

DJI, the popular drone maker, is gearing up for the launch of the Mavic Air 2. However, just prior to its launch, an FCC certification was spotted which revealed the specs of the drone, while the close up images of the drone were also revealed accidentally, by a DJI partner website.

According to DroneDJ, the reporting agency that first broke the news, DJI Mavic Air 2 will cost 799 US Dollars. Furthermore, leaks had pointed at the successor having a 50 percent larger battery with a flight up time also being a couple of minutes higher than the Mavic 2. Reportedly, it can reach speeds up to 42.5 miles per hour, similar to the Mavic Air, and its camera will capture images up to 48 megapixel and record 4K videos as well.

In terms of stabilization, it has a 3 axis image stabilizer alongside several intelligent automated photo modes, like the ActiveTrack 3.0 that allows users to pick a subject for the drone to follow automatically. Unfortunately, it is still unclear when the Mavic Air 2 will actually go on sale, however, DJI has scheduled an event for the 27th of April 2020, so we may see the drone being unveiled on that same date.

DJI has scheduled an event for April 27 to announce a new product, which according to recent leaks could be Mavic Air 2, whose predecessor debuted in early 2018. Now, once again this upcoming drone leaks via Brazil’s ANATEL certification revealing the entire design as well as certain specifications.

The new DJI Mavic Air 2 leak confirms the design of the product from the previous leak. Since these new pictures of the forthcoming drone are from a certification portal, they are much clearer and hence we get a better idea of how it will look in real life.

The manual, which leaked alongside the pictures further exposes some key specifications of the drone days ahead of its launch. According to it, the battery of Mavic Air 2 will be 3500 mAh rated at 11.5V yielding over 40WH of capacity.  Thus, it can achieve a maximum speed of 68.4 km/h with a maximum flight time of 34 minutes. For comparison, the original DJI Mavic Air only has a 2375 mAh battery and 21 minutes of maximum flight duration.

As for optics, it will feature a 48MP camera capable of recording 4K videos and capturing 48 megapixels still photos. The new drone will also come with an obstacle sensor, intelligent flight modes like ActiveTrack 3.0, Point of Interest (PoS) 3.0, QuickShot and advanced flight assistance systems 2.0.

There’s only one thing that is still a mystery about the DJI Mavic Air 2, which happens to be its price. Going by the rate of leaks over the past few days, we will not be surprised if the price comes out before the official launch.

DJI, the world’s popular drone maker has scheduled an event for April 27 to unveil a new product. According to the teaser and release timeline, the upcoming release could be DJI Mavic Air 2, the successor to the original launched back in early 2018.

The DJI Mavic Air was the world’s first pocket-sized portable drone to be able to capture 4K videos. It was and still well-received for its compactibility by the users as well as media. Hence, a successor with improvements was never out of a question for the company.

Also, the image leak and FCC listing from a few weeks back suggest the DJI Mavic Air 2 to debut soon. In addition to those, the new teaser video posted by DJI’s official Twitter account also implies the same.

The drone in the teaser video resembles the original DJI Mavic Pro with rounded shape unlike any other recent drones from the company. We also get to see new green-coloured lights in a diamond pattern for battery indication. For comparison, the other drones from the company come with linearly aligned LED indicators.

According to leaks, the DJI Mavic Air 2 will have a 3,500 mAh battery, which is much better than its predecessor’s 2,375 mAh unit. In fact, battery life was one of the problems in the first version. Thankfully, the company will be fixing it in the second iteration slated to launch on April 27.

DJI, the known drone and photography peripherals maker, has one of its upcoming product’s images leaked. The DJI Mavic Air 2 has been spotted online, on Twitter, from a relatively reliable source carrying the message “time to sell your Mavic Air.”

The leak was shared from a verified DJI drone pilot, who published five images that is apparently of the Mavic Air 2 drone model. The images are taken from various angles, giving us a sort of detailed look of the drone and also showcase it taking off. The drone in question is expected to be unveiled by April 2020 and will target the mid range segment in the drone market.

According to @OsitaLV’s tweet, the images are claimed to be of the Mavic Air 2. For those unaware, the Mavic series is a part of DJI’s popular drone family. Its Pro variants are top of the line and one of the best in the industry, while the relatively cheaper Air variants target the affordable budget segments. From the images, a newly designed larger and sturdier controller can be observed. This arrives with the usual controller options with the sticks and mode swapping buttons.

One of the interesting aspects seen in the leaks includes new safety measures. The DJI Mavic Air 2 features two rear sensors, allowing for a 360 degree obstacle avoidance view. It significantly reduces the possibility of accidents over the currently available model’s three dimensional environment sensors. As of 2019, any Mavic series drones over 250 grams, will feature AirSens technology and also receive ADS-B signals from nearby drones. This further reduces the chances of accidental crashes and are features that are likely to make an appearance here.

Unfortunately, apart from the physical body, finer details regarding the DJI Mavic Air 2 is still unknown. Although it can be expected to offer better performance than previous generations, it is unlikely to match Mavic 2 Pro‘s level due to the smaller size. However, the drone maker might just include certain new features that only the newer generations in the Mavic series house. But we will have to wait for more leaks or an official statement, so stay tuned for more updates.
