The Chinese manufacturer released a video yesterday to demonstrate the design of the upcoming device.

The phone is very compact as it sports a 5.84″ display. Its dimensions are 156.5 x 78.3 x 14.2mm and it weighs 264g. As you can imagine, it can be controlled singlehandedly thanks to its small size. That was until today as the Blackview Marketing manager, Yan, revealed that his team is busy for the upcoming Helio P90 rugged phone, Blackview BV9900, that will launch on Indiegogo before the end of this year. We don’t expect to be widely available on e-commerce platforms before January, however, it is expected to be announced in December. Judging by its name, it will be the company’s next flagship and will carry a competitive features combo, otherwise, it wouldn’t launch on Indiegogo where customers always pick products that sell themselves.

The first thing that came to mind when referring to a thermal camera on a smartphone, was CAT S61/S60. That changed recently as Blackview announced the BV9800 Pro rugged outdoor smartphone that comes with a Thermal camera by FLIR® and boasts a Sony® 48MP camera. The feature went viral last month when the company started the “warm-up” marketing campaign. Almost 2 months later, someone would say that the Blackview BV9800 Pro is a late-comer but let’s see how both the smartphones stack up against each other.

Display & Design

The Blackview BV9800 Pro and the CAT S61 boast the most impressive design and build quality. Both phones boast excellent design and build quality and both have a super rugged body that is waterproof, drop-proof, and dustproof (IP68/IP69K/MIL-STD-810G certified). But when it comes to the display, the BV9800 Pro is a clear winner since it comes with a 6.3″ IPS FHD+ display with 19.5:9. On the other hand, the CAT S61 sports a smallish 5.2″ FHD IPS display with the classic 16:9 aspect ratio. The BV9800 Pro comes with Android 9 Pie out-of-the-box while S61 runs on Android Oreo, with an update to Pie. With these specs in mind, the BV9800 Pro is a clear winner both in hardware and software.

Camera

Moving on to the optics found in both phones, the brand-new Blackview phone comes with Sony’s popular 48MP sensor with night shot mode support as a part of a triple camera setup. The camera setup also includes a FLIR® Lepton® thermal imaging sensor and a 5MP sensor assisting with thermal imaging, with an extra flash. Also, there is a 16MP front shooter. The CAT S61 is apparently weaker in this part as it sports a 16MP single rear camera with dual LED flash and an 8MP front shooter.

Battery

Here things are even clearer, as BV9800 Pro houses an enormous 6580mAh battery with wireless charging support. That’s almost 47% bigger than the 4500mAh battery found in CAT S61. Both phones come with an 18W charger though.

Doogee has been in the smartphone industry for several years and has always released decent devices at even more decent prices. Phones like the bezeless Doogee MIX 4, the budget-friendly Doogee X10 or the BL12000 huge battery phone were well-received by users all around the world. A few months back, the company released the modular phone Doogee S90 that came with useful modules like the night vision camera, 5000mAh powerbank, digital walkie-talkie, and professional gamepad and now they are ready to release its successor, the Doogee S95 Pro.

According to the leaked information, it is going to be a powerhouse as it is expected to come with Helio P90 backed by 8GB of RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.0 storage. Also, it will be fully-rugged with protection against water, dust, and drops while it will sport a triple camera on the back with a 48MP main camera, a wide-angle camera, and a depth camera.

Besides the main specs, it will supposedly come with a 6W module with dual 27mm speakers and an extra battery integrated so that it will not deplete your phone’s battery. The new HiFi speaker module will be made of soft material and will feature an ergonomic design for comfortable grip.

The Doogee S95 Pro is expected to have a long battery life since it will come with a 5150mAh battery capacity that together with the power-saving frequency conversion system assures decent performance with low power consumption. Also, the 24W turbo quick charging takes care of fast charging and the extra 3500mAh power module offers another 80% power with 10W turbo quick charge technology.

When talking about a flagship device in any given price category, what someone should expect is good performance. For that reason, the Doogee S95 Pro will come with Helio P90 that sports a pair of powerful Arm Cortex-A75 CPUs and six Cortex-A55 in a single octa-core cluster. Altogether with the performance leading APU2.0, a powerful IMG PowerVR GM 9446GPU and fast LPDDR4X memory controller, you get 50% faster performance than the previous P60/70 SoCs.

Finally, the camera. S95 Pro is going to host Sony’s 48MP sensor for its triple rear camera. The IMX586 sensor ranks at the top of DxOmark list both in video and photo shooting. The top sensor from Sony not only features a high pixel count but also is large at 1/2″ with 1.6μm pixel (via pixel binning).

The release date is yet to be confirmed but it shouldn’t be too far away since all the specs are finalized and it should debut this month as one of the leaked posters reveal.
