Qualcomm has informed that their new Arm-based chips could launch somewhere around “mid-2024” and it could also be this month.

Now the latest news is that Samsung is also planning to unveil the Galaxy Book 4 Edge (which will be powered by the new chip) this month. According to sources at Sammobile, the company wants to reveal the Galaxy Book 4 Edge before the end of May. It appears that Samsung wants to offer the new Arm-based machine as soon as the new chips become available.

The Galaxy Book 4 Edge naming and its use of an Arm-based chip has previously been confirmed by a GeekBench listing surfaced earlier this month. We also know that the new laptop will offer a 14″ display, 16GB RAM, and 512GB storage and will cost around €1,800.

Both benchmarks shown off by Qualcomm and GeekBench listings of devices with the chip indicate impressive performance and power efficiency. It could mean a significant improvement in battery life. However, it’s important to mention that there is no commercially available device with the new chip yet, and it’s not clear how the tests were performed. A difference in the power management or the cooling solution can definitely influence the numbers. So, take them with a pinch of salt until the retail units are out.

For those unaware, the Snapdragon X Elite equips 12 uniform Qualcomm Oryon CPUs, two of which run at 4.3GHz and the rest run at 3.8GHz. For graphics, it equips a Qualcomm Adreno GPU that goes up to 4.6 TFLOPS (Tera Floating Point Operations Per Second). For specific AI-based applications, the chip boasts 45TOPS Qualcomm Hexagon NPU.

Samsung recently released four Galaxy Book 4 models globally – the Galaxy Book 4 360, Galaxy Book 4 Ultra, Galaxy Book 4 Pro, and the Galaxy Book 4 Pro 360. Now Samsung is going to add another model to the lineup, the Galaxy Book 4 Edge, that will be one of the first adopters of Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon X Elite platform.

The upcoming device is positioned to compete head-to-head with Apple’s silicon-powered MacBooks, promising high performance and power efficiency. This Snapdragon X Elite powered laptop has recently surfaced on Geekbench surpassing Apple’s M1 and M2 powered devices.

Galaxy Book 4 Edge (with X Elite SoC) could offer much longer battery life

The Galaxy Book 4 Edge will leverage Qualcomm’s 12-core ARM CPU, boasting clock speeds of up to 4.3 gigahertz. Developed by a team of former Apple chip designers, this processor aims to narrow the performance gap between Windows and MacOS-based devices, challenging Apple’s M series processors.

Initial specifications reveal a 14-inch display, complemented by 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD. While further details on storage and memory configurations remain undisclosed, the device is anticipated to offer premium features characteristic of high-end laptops.

Priced at around 1800 euros (~$1,968), the Galaxy Book 4 Edge is positioned in a similar range as Apple‘s latest MacBook Air. Despite the premium price tag, the Samsung laptop is expected to justify its value proposition through power-efficient operation, potentially offering significantly longer battery life compared to its counterparts.

Performance-wise, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite chip has showcased impressive capabilities. In tests conducted by XDA Developers, machines powered by the chip outperformed the MacBook Air with an M2 chip, exhibiting promising single and multi-core performance metrics.

While the exact launch date of the Galaxy Book 4 Edge remains undisclosed, Qualcomm’s new SoC is slated for a mid-2024 release. As such, consumers can anticipate the Snapdragon X Elite-powered laptop to hit the shelves in the latter half of the year, offering a compelling option for those seeking enhanced performance and power efficiency.

Samsung is working on a new addition to its Galaxy Book series called the Galaxy Book 4 Edge. It’s the company’s first notebook powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processor.

The laptop has recently surfaced on the Geekbench benchmarking platform showing impressive raw performance. Thanks to a leak from tipster Roland Quandt (via WinFuture), we now have the pricing details for the Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Edge in Europe.

Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Edge Price in Europe

As we all know, inside running the show is the Snapdragon X Elite processor. It’s a 12-core ARM SoC featuring new “Oryon” and “Phoenix” CPU cores developed by ex-Apple chip designers.

Thanks to Qualcomm’s new platform, the Galaxy Book 4 Edge is expected to offer a significantly longer battery life than its Intel-based counterparts. Rumors also suggest the processor might come with an integrated 5G modem, although this hasn’t been officially confirmed yet.

Moreover, the laptop is expected to feature a 14-inch display, 16GB of RAM (non-expandable), and a 512GB SSD.

With all this, the Galaxy Book 4 Edge is said to be priced at around 1800 euros. So it’s definitely a premium offering, similar to other models in Samsung’s Galaxy Book 4 line. For reference, the Galaxy Book 4 Pro with a 14-inch display and Intel Core processor is priced at 1899 Euros.

Surprisingly, the expected price of the Galaxy Book 4 Edge is even higher than that of the new Apple MacBook Air M3 in Germany, where the 13-inch model is currently available for 1759 euros.

Regarding availability, the leak says that the Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Edge will not launch probably until June. It remains to be seen how this ARM-powered laptop will perform and whether it can truly challenge Apple’s dominance in the premium laptop space.

Samsung recently introduced its Galaxy Book 4 series globally, but there seems to be another exciting reveal on the horizon. A mysterious newcomer, the Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Edge, has popped up on the Geekbench benchmarking platform, offering some exciting details about the upcoming device.

Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Edge Geekbench benchmark

Surprisingly, the Galaxy Book 4 Edge packs Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon X Elite processor paired with 16GB of RAM and runs Windows 11 Home (64-bit).

The benchmark not only confirms that Samsung will be partnering with Qualcomm on laptops but also indicates that the company may not yet be ready to deploy its own Exynos chips for larger devices. It is likely a wise move, given Samsung’s current focus on refining the Exynos line for smartphones.

The Galaxy Book 4 Edge with Snapdragon X Elite achieved impressive Geekbench 6.2.2. scores: 2,706 points in single-core and a whopping 12,646 points in multi-core tests.

While these figures of the Snapdragon X Elite clearly outperform Apple’s M1 and M2 chips, it falls short against the newer M3 (excluding the M Pro line).

Chip

Single-core

Multi-core

Apple M1

2334

8316

Apple M2

2589

9742

Apple M3

3181

15620

Book4 Edge (X Elite)

2706

12646

However, making a direct comparison between the Snapdragon X Elite and Apple’s M-series chips is a bit tricky in itself. The inherent differences between Windows 11 on ARM and MacOS make it difficult to gauge real-world performance solely based on benchmarks.

Apple’s excellent software optimization for its M-chips gives it an edge over any other PC device. So it remains to be seen if Qualcomm and Microsoft can achieve similar synergy.

Rumors also hint that Qualcomm’s new chip will find its way into Microsoft’s upcoming Surface Laptop 6 and Surface Pro 10. This would position Samsung as a direct competitor to Microsoft’s established Surface line.

Nevertheless, it’s surprising to see Samsung placing trust in Qualcomm for a new addition to its premium laptop lineup, particularly considering Qualcomm’s relatively recent entry into the consumer PC chip market.
