<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-444435 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/google-pixel-6-pro-featured.jpg?x10805" alt="google pixel 6 pro featured" width="1000" height="563" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/google-pixel-6-pro-featured.jpg 1000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/google-pixel-6-pro-featured-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/google-pixel-6-pro-featured-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/google-pixel-6-pro-featured-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/google-pixel-6-pro-featured-746x420.jpg 746w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></p>
<p>We recently covered a report by TradingPlatform&#8217;s Edith Reads that stated that Google might be losing its loyal userbase due to the constant buds of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/google-pixel-6-series/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Pixel 6 series</a>. Just a few days after that report, the device now has a new problem which is making the display pixels turn black.</p>
<p>Pixel 6 series users have taken to Google&#8217;s support page, Twitter and <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/vr4b79/black_dot_left_to_the_inner_camera/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Reddit</a> to complain about black spots on their phones’ screens. A Pixel 6 Pro user wrote to <a href="https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/143021347?hl=en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Google support</a> saying &#8220;The screen has developed a black dot that appears to be growing. The phone has not been dropped and has been updated.&#8221; The user also adds that Google support (chat/call) isn’t helping either.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-470057 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Pixel_6-1-1.webp?x10805" alt="Google Pixel 6 bug" width="311" height="700" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Pixel_6-1-1.webp 311w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Pixel_6-1-1-133x300.webp 133w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Pixel_6-1-1-187x420.webp 187w" sizes="(max-width: 311px) 100vw, 311px" /></p>
<p>Some Pixel 6 series users have noticed a black dot around the front camera, while others have noticed a black dot forming in the upper right corner of the phone. Users believe the dots to be dead pixels on the screen. It&#8217;s unclear whether this problem is caused by faulty hardware or by software. There is a widespread belief that this is a hardware issue, which means customers must contact Google to get their devices replaced/fixed.</p>
<p>Currently, it is unclear how widespread this issue is, and Google is yet to release a public statement on the matter. However, with the launch of the Pixel 7 series getting closer, this latest incident is sure to put some doubts in the minds of customers eagerly waiting for the device.</p>

The bug was making it impossible for users to use the Magic Eraser feature. But not anymore as <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/Google" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Google</a> has issued a fix.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-411903 td-animation-stack-type0-2" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Pixel_6_Pro_Group_Image__Transparent_-.png?x10805" alt="Google Pixel 6 Pro" width="700" height="394" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Pixel_6_Pro_Group_Image__Transparent_-.png 700w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Pixel_6_Pro_Group_Image__Transparent_--300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Pixel_6_Pro_Group_Image__Transparent_--696x392.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /></p>
<p>Recently, users took to Twitter and Reddit to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/02/04/google-pixel-6-devices-magic-eraser-bug/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">report on a new bug</a> that was causing the Google Photos App to crash whenever they tried to use the magic eraser functionality. The issue seemed to be caused due to a recent update to the Photos App. Google has reacted fast to the complaints and has issued a new update to fix the issue.</p>
<p>In a post on the Official Google Account on <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/skdedi/pixel_6s_magic_eraser_feature_breaks_after_update/hvlyxi6/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Reddit</a>, the company wrote, &#8220;Thank you for your patience and bug reports. Starting today, we are rolling out a fix, so please update to the latest version of Google Photos (5.76.0.426251772 or higher) in the Play Store.&#8221;</p>
<p>For those unaware, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Magic-Eraser/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Magic Eraser</a> is one of the key features in the Pixel 6 devices which uses the machine learning capabilities of Google’s new Tensor processor and enables users to remove unwanted objects or people from their photos.</p>
<p>So updating the app will now fix the issue in devices that have been plagued by this bug. The abundant bugs faced by Pixel 6 series users ever since its release have many believing that the company simply doesn&#8217;t care enough to polish and optimize before releasing a new update. However, the quick fix comes as a reassurance that maybe not all bugs in the new <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Tensor/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Tensor</a> SoC equipped devices are caused due to neglect by the search giant.</p>
<p>Despite being all over the news for various bugs and issues, the Pixel 6 series still appears to be the most popular Pixel device yet as Google&#8217;s CEO Sundar Pichai recently <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/02/02/google-pixel-6-breaks-previous-sales-records/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">announced</a> that the Pixel 6 series has set an “all-time quarterly sales record.”</p>

<p>&mdash; John Sohrawardi (@johnsohrawardi) <a href="https://twitter.com/johnsohrawardi/status/1489481174976442369?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 4, 2022</a></p></blockquote>

<p>The bug has apparently come along with the latest update to the Google Photos app. Users have tried to find a workaround to this problem by clearing cache and data but to no avail. Restoring the device to the factory setting also doesn&#8217;t work since it removes the Magic Eraser functionality completely from the device.</p>
<p>For those unaware, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Magic-Eraser/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Magic Eraser</a> is one of the key features in the Pixel 6 devices which uses the machine learning capabilities of Google&#8217;s new Tensor processor and enables users to remove unwanted objects or people from their photos.</p>
<p>Google Photo&#8217;s official Twitter handle has directed users affected by this bug to follow the steps in their &#8220;<a href="https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/2668665" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Fix an installed Android app that isn&#8217;t working</a>&#8221; article, however, the generic fixes mentioned in the article don&#8217;t appear to work.</p>
<p>For users who have not been infected by this new bug yet, we highly recommend you to turn off the automatic update for the Google Photos App for the time being. To turn off automatic updates for your Google Photos app, go to the Play Store and open the Google Photos app page. Then click the three dots button on the top right and uncheck the &#8220;Enable auto-update&#8221; checkbox.</p>

<p>Yesterday (16th November), Google surprised its users with a mid-month update (<a href="https://9to5google.com/2021/11/17/pixel-6-pro-november-update/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">via</a>). The OTA update (SD1A.210817.037 for global Pixels and SD1A.210817.037.A1 for Verizon variants) was relatively small in size, and Google has not provided a changelog with it. However, Verizon has provided a <a href="https://www.verizon.com/support/google-pixel-6-pro-update/?CMP=afc_m_p_cj_na_ot_21_99_affiliate-100036542_11365093&amp;cjevent=2105e4fb47be11ec82f7b0b20a180510&amp;vendorid=CJM&amp;AID=11365093&amp;SID=76086X1526367Xbbde35f592b22ce8a68b056640f073e2&amp;PUBID=100036542&amp;cjdata=MXxOfDB8WXww" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">changelog</a> which states, &#8216;The current software update improves the performance of your device&#8217;s fingerprint sensor.&#8217;</p>
<p>Post update, <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/qvg2nz/google_releases_surprise_pixel_6_november_update/hkx9x7c/?utm_source=reddit&amp;utm_medium=web2x&amp;context=3" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">some</a> Pixel 6 owners on Reddit have claimed that the sensor is working much better without any hiccups even while using a screen protector.<span data-preserver-spaces="true"> In contrast, </span><a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/qvg2nz/google_releases_surprise_pixel_6_november_update/hkxye0t/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><span data-preserver-spaces="true">others</span></a><span data-preserver-spaces="true"> have pointed out that the update has done little for them. They are using workarounds like registering the fingerprint twice to get better performance from the sensor.</span></p>
<p>Google initially claimed that the sensor was slow due to the enhanced <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/11/08/why-google-pixel-6-fingerprint-reader-slow/">security algorithms</a> employed in the pixel 6 series. It is too soon to conclude the improvements claimed by Verizon while it is also yet to see if Google fixed another notorious issue of the fingerprint sensor breaking after the Pixel 6&#8217;s battery runs out.</p>

Sadly, the phones are still plagued by a slew of issues, which Google is working to remedy. The phone now dials random contacts, which is an unexpected glitch reported by Pixel 6 owners. This isn&#8217;t limited to a single Pixel 6 smartphone, rather, many Pixel 6 owners have reported the same issue.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-423550 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Google-Pixel-6.jpg?x10805" alt="Google Pixel 6" width="856" height="386" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Google-Pixel-6.jpg 856w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Google-Pixel-6-300x135.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Google-Pixel-6-768x346.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Google-Pixel-6-696x314.jpg 696w" sizes="(max-width: 856px) 100vw, 856px" /></p>
<p>A Reddit thread has detailed this bug and revealed that the device was usually in the pocket or was left alone when called random contacts. That said, the main reason behind this was said to be Google Assistant, which apparently would have dialled random contacts by misinterpreting some noise. However, that was not the case as users also revealed that the smartphone was usually in a quiet place.</p>
<p>Some users learned that the smartphone dialled contacts when they were asleep at night. Although it does sound terrifying, it is also surprising to see such bugs in the flagship phones. Nonetheless, Google Assistant wasn&#8217;t the culprit as the phone was kept in a quiet environment. Well, some Pixel 6 owners disabled the Google Assistant to address this bug, however, it didn&#8217;t seem to help.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, there&#8217;s no official information available regarding this bug but we expect Google to fix it soon. Are you a Pixel 6 owner? If Yes, do let us know if you are facing the same issue.</p>
