60Hz was the standard refresh rate for smartphones a few years ago. As chipsets got more capable and phones could finally push more frames for smoother animation and scrolling, smartphone makers switched to higher refresh rate displays to improve the user experience. Lately, this has also allowed phones to offer smoother gameplay.

The current landscape

120Hz is the current standard for both Androids and iPhones, and many Android OEMs are continuously pushing the boundaries to reach even higher numbers. The OnePlus 15, for instance, refreshes its 1.5K display up to 165 times per second. In fact, one of the reasons behind the shift from the OnePlus 13’s 2K panel to 1.5K in the latest flagship was reportedly the higher refresh rate. Refreshing a 2K panel at 165fps simply wasn’t possible due to technical limitations, as a company official noted.

The performance-centric Honor Win series goes a step further, with a whopping 185Hz refresh rate. This matches Asus’s gaming flagship from 2024, the ROG Phone 9 series.

So here’s the question: do higher refresh rates help gamers? Well, only if a game has been updated to take advantage of it (mostly through frame rate interpolation). The phone also needs to be able to render that many frames consistently. While smartphone chips are getting more capable every year, the list of games that cross 120fps remains quite short.

OnePlus revealed a list of games that take advantage of the OnePlus 15’s high refresh rate display at launch:

While I enjoy having the toggle to turn on frame rate interpolation and experience smoother gameplay on Genshin Impact on my iQOO Neo 9 Pro, it only works for a handful of supported games. It also doesn’t apply elsewhere in the UI, despite what marketing materials sometimes imply. As a result, it feels like a niche feature rather than one that should influence the buying decision of a wider audience.

So, to answer the question directly, a 185Hz refresh rate is only useful to you if a game in your app drawer actually supports it.

Most gamers looking to upgrade would be better off prioritizing sustained performance in games or the effectiveness of a phone’s cooling system instead. But if you are an avid player of a game that supports such high refresh rates, then upgrading to a phone with 165Hz+ refresh rate might make sense.

Honor Win series has officially been locked in for launch later this month, with the brand confirming both the date and early design details. While Honor has stopped short of sharing full specifications, it has revealed enough to signal where the new lineup is headed. Apart from the launch date, the brand has also rolled out the images of the Win series.

Honor Win series launch timeline and design details

Honor has confirmed that the Win series will be unveiled on Dec. 26 at 14:30 (local time) in China. The launch will introduce two models named Honor Win and Honor Win RT, marking a dual flagship strategy for the lineup.

The Honor Win series has been revealed in three shades, such as black, white, and blue. There seems to be a beige color option as well, but that has not been officially confirmed yet. The rear panel features a matte texture that resists fingerprints and sweat, helping to maintain a secure grip during extended gaming sessions. The overall design looks similar to the Redmi K90 series.

Both phones follow Honor’s familiar design language, though there are visible differences between the two. The Honor Win is positioned as the higher-end variant and features a triple rear camera setup, while the Honor Win RT has a dual camera setup. Both phones have the Win-branding and an active cooling fan, reinforcing their gaming-centric approach.

Honor Win series expected specifications

According to reports, the Honor Win is expected to feature a 6.83-inch 1.5K LTPS flat display with a high refresh rate of up to 165Hz. It is said to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, which is currently among the most powerful processors in the Android ecosystem. The phone is also tipped to include a 50-megapixel main camera, a metal frame, ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, and full-level water resistance.

Battery capacity is another major highlight, with reports pointing to a battery size of at least 8,500mAh, setting a new benchmark for performance-focused smartphones. Detailed specifications of the Honor Win RT remain under wraps and are expected to be revealed closer to launch. However, it is expected to similar specs as the standard model but is said to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.

Only the last 15 days of 2025 remain, and Honor appears set to close the year with a bang by announcing the all-new Honor Win series, formerly known as the Honor GT 2. The lineup is expected to include two models that were previously dubbed the Honor GT 2 and GT 2 Pro. These new devices are likely to be called the Honor Win and Honor Win Pro. Images of the Honor Win series are currently doing the rounds on Chinese social media platforms, revealing a design similar to the Redmi K90 series.

Honor Win series images emerge

There are two sets of images circulating on Weibo. Both models feature a rectangular camera module with Win branding placed at the bottom-right corner. The module appears to house three cameras along with an LED flash. The handset that seems to be the base Honor Win could arrive in shades such as beige, black, white, and cyan.

In the other set of images, the LED flash is positioned toward the right side of the rectangular camera island. Alongside the camera setup, there appears to be a built-in cooling component, which suggests that this could be a performance-focused model. Its inclusion points to it being a higher-end offering, likely to be called the Honor Win Pro.

Readers should note that the images mentioned above are not verified, and it is unclear whether they are official renders. Additionally, the final marketing names of these devices have yet to be confirmed.

Based on reports, the Honor Win and Honor Win Pro could be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipsets, respectively. Both devices may feature a 1.5K OLED screen, a 50-megapixel main camera, and an around 8,500mAh battery with 100W charging support.
