Interestingly, he does not use the word </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-40e/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Huawei Mate 40E</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Previous reports have revealed that this particular phone will have model number TDT-MA01. A new report has suggested that the new Mate 40 series model will feature 5G networking and could be the sixth entry in the family.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-429721 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Screenshot-2021-12-08-164755.png?x44794" alt="Huawei" width="618" height="388" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Screenshot-2021-12-08-164755.png 618w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/Screenshot-2021-12-08-164755-300x188.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 618px) 100vw, 618px" /></p>
<p>The Chinese tech giant had recently obtained a network access license from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. This license was for a new smartphone with a model number of &#8220;NOH-AN50,&#8221; which hints that it belongs to the Mate 40 flagship family. It was initially assumed to be a new Mate 40 Pro model that could&#8217;ve been branded as a Collector&#8217;s Edition and feature the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/kirin-9000/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Kirin 9000 5G</a> chipset. But now, tipster @<span title="魔法科技君">魔法科技君 </span>believes that the upcoming handset in question is the Mate 40E Pro that will be powered by a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/kirin-990/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Kirin 990 5G</a> SoC.</p>
<p>For those unaware, the company had previously launched the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-40e-4g/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Mate 40E in a 4G</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-40e/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">5G</a> variant. Now, it is apparently gearing up to launch a new Pro variant as well that supports 5G networking. While the Mate 40E had featured a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/kirin-990e-5g/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Kirin 990E</a> processor, the Pro variant will supposedly sport the Kirin 990 5G. However, it seems odd that the brand plans to release a new smartphone that features a dated flagship processor that was announced back in 2019.</p>
<figure id="attachment_425816" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-425816" style="width: 2067px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-425816 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/HUAWEI-Mate-40E-5G-Featured-A.jpeg?x44794" alt="HUAWEI Mate 40E 5G Featured A" width="2067" height="1378" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/HUAWEI-Mate-40E-5G-Featured-A.jpeg 2067w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/HUAWEI-Mate-40E-5G-Featured-A-300x200.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/HUAWEI-Mate-40E-5G-Featured-A-768x512.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/HUAWEI-Mate-40E-5G-Featured-A-1024x683.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/HUAWEI-Mate-40E-5G-Featured-A-696x464.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/HUAWEI-Mate-40E-5G-Featured-A-1068x712.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/HUAWEI-Mate-40E-5G-Featured-A-630x420.jpeg 630w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/HUAWEI-Mate-40E-5G-Featured-A-1920x1280.jpeg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 2067px) 100vw, 2067px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-425816" class="wp-caption-text">Mate 40E 5G</figcaption></figure>
<p>In other words, Huawei might have reserves of its Kirin 9000 series running low or they could possibly even be completely dry. This means that any future smartphones from the brand might likely be unable to feature its latest and greatest chipset. Previous estimates had indicated that the company had managed to acquire just 10 million units of Kirin 9000 chips before US sanctions <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/05/18/tsmc-halts-new-huawei-orders/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">cut off the company from its primary chip supplier TSMC</a>. Although, this is still just an unconfirmed report, so take it with a pinch of salt for now.</p>

The controversy is giving Huawei a tough time, as it has almost run out of its 5G chipsets after the U.S. imposed sanctions on <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tags/kirin/">Kirin</a> chipsets from <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tags/tsmc/">TSMC</a>. This has not only halted Huawei&#8217;s progress in the 5G smartphone domain, but may also make future expansion hard for the tech giant. Huawei is on a hunt to bring onboard new players and if rumors are anything to go by, Huawei would re-launch smartphones with 5G this time.</p>

<p>After Huawei got banned for further conducting business with American companies, it started to explore alternative sources to keep the business alive. However, some <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tags/huawei-mate-40e/">Huawei Mate 40E</a> units are still <a href="https://asia.nikkei.com/Spotlight/Huawei-crackdown/Chinese-components-double-to-60-in-new-Huawei-smartphone">reportedly</a> using American communication chips, possibly the ones acquired before the ban.</p>
<p>The Mate 40E was released in China in March and is now out of the stock for the majority of the time. What is more surprising is that the <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tags/huawei-p50-pro/">Huawei P50</a> series was launched with 4G where its predecessors enjoy 5G. All because Huawei is struggling to procure components in this U.S. and Japanese hegemony.</p>
<figure id="attachment_413320" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-413320" style="width: 696px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-413320 size-large" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/huawei-rumored-to-re-launch-5g-phones.jpg-1011x1024.jpeg?x44794" alt="huawei-rumored-to-re-launch-5g-phones.jpg" width="696" height="705" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/huawei-rumored-to-re-launch-5g-phones.jpg-1011x1024.jpeg 1011w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/huawei-rumored-to-re-launch-5g-phones.jpg-296x300.jpeg 296w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/huawei-rumored-to-re-launch-5g-phones.jpg-768x778.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/huawei-rumored-to-re-launch-5g-phones.jpg-696x705.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/huawei-rumored-to-re-launch-5g-phones.jpg-1068x1082.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/huawei-rumored-to-re-launch-5g-phones.jpg-415x420.jpeg 415w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/huawei-rumored-to-re-launch-5g-phones.jpg.jpeg 1080w" sizes="(max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-413320" class="wp-caption-text">Source: Weibo</figcaption></figure>
<p>But it looks like Huawei may finally have a solution if the <a href="https://m.weibo.cn/status/4682080372656810">rumors</a> are to be believed. A person who claims to be a Huawei employee states that Huawei would re-launch devices with 5G. This, if true, should bring joy to both the company and its users. The only way forward is by finding new sources, which is not going to be an easy task for Huawei. Note that this is just a rumor at this point so take it with a pinch of salt.</p>
<p>Huawei Mate 50 series is expected to launch later this year, and it should ideally support 5G. What remains to be seen is from where is Huawei planning to procure components.</p>

The tech giant has now officially launched the trio for sale in China.  The major highlight of the models is the presence of HarmonyOS 2 onboard all three models.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-395394" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei Mate 40E" width="600" height="1080" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate-167x300.jpg 167w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate-569x1024.jpg 569w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate-233x420.jpg 233w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>The models are not new, they had earlier been launched last year but with 5G capabilities. The company has decided to release a 4G-only version, perhaps due to the chip shortage occasioned by the US trade embargo that has made it impossible for the Chinese firm to buy semiconductors from US companies. The company is likely relying on the stockpile of chips it made before the ban went into effect.</p>
<p>Talking of the specs, the Huawei Mate 40 Pro 4G version is equipped with a Kirin 9000 processor paired with 8GB RAM while there are 128GB and 256GB storage options. The device starts at 6,099 yuan which is 400 yuan cheaper than the 5G version.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate-2.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-395395" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate-2.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei Mate 40E" width="600" height="1080" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate-2.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate-2-167x300.jpg 167w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate-2-569x1024.jpg 569w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate-2-233x420.jpg 233w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>On the other hand, the Mate 40E 4G version is equipped with a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/03/10/huawei-mate-40e-5g-with-90hz-display-kirin-990e-and-64mp-triple-cameras-launched-in-china/">Kirin 990E</a> processor backed by 8GB RAM as well as 128GB and 256GB storage options. The Mate 40E starts at 4199 yuan, also 400 yuan cheaper than the 5G version.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate-3-1.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-395396" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate-3-1.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei Nova 8 Pro" width="600" height="1080" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate-3-1.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate-3-1-167x300.jpg 167w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate-3-1-569x1024.jpg 569w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/huawei-mate-3-1-233x420.jpg 233w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>The Nova 8 Pro 4G is the cheapest model among the lot. It is equipped with a Kirin 985 processor and has the same memory configuration as its predecessors. It starts at 3699 yuan which is 300 yuan cheaper than the 5G version.</p>
<p>Apart from the lack of a 5G modem, the 4G versions are exactly the same as their 5G counterparts in terms of product design and other specs. You also get the HarmonyOS 2 installed from the go.</p>
<p>We don&#8217;t know if Huawei will have enough stock to sell these models outside China. By the way, would you still buy a Huawei smartphone in the absence of GMS? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.</p>

<p>The Mate 40E from the Chinese tech giant was recently spotted <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/12/26/huawei-mate-40e-spotted-on-wireless-power-consortium-a-mate-40-with-a-kirin-990e-chipset/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">passing certification with the Wireless Power Consortium</a>. It is set to arrive with a 6.5 inch OLED display with a resolution of 2376 x 1080px. Under the hood, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/10/24/how-the-kirin-990e-5g-differs-from-the-kirin-990-and-kirin-990-5g/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">HiSilicon 990E 5G chipset</a> will run the new device, which will reach clock speeds of up to 2.86GHz. Notably, the &#8216;E&#8217; in the smartphone&#8217;s name is likely to highlight the Kirin 990E processor.</p>
<p>In terms of other specifications, the smartphone was expected to launch with a 50 megapixel Sony IMX700 sensor, but will now reportedly arrive with a 64 megapixel OmniVision OV64A sensor. This sensor features a 1/1.34-inch outsole, a single pixel size of 1um, support for four in one pixel binning up to 2um. Unfortunately, finer details regarding the device are currently unknown.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-362148 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Mate-40E.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei Mate 40E" width="487" height="327" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Mate-40E.jpg 487w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Mate-40E-300x201.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/Mate-40E-485x327.jpg 485w" sizes="(max-width: 487px) 100vw, 487px" /></p>
<p>The company might be planning an imminent launch of the Mate 40E, especially considering that it had been listed on the Tmall store. However, the company was quick to remove the listing, but the name of the device was confirmed, as per a <a href="https://finance.sina.com.cn/tech/2021-03-09/doc-ikknscsh9471707.shtml" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>TechSina</em></a> report. In other words, we can expect an approaching launch date. So stay tuned for more, as we will be providing updates when additional information is available.</p>

<p>Noted tipster Digital Chat Station has now revealed that the Mate 40E was originally scheduled to launch with a 50-megapixel Sony IMX 700 sensor onboard as the main camera but presently, due to the shortage of components, it will be replaced with a 64-megapixel sensor.</p>
<p>The 64-megapixel sensor is an Omnivision OV64A sensor with a 1/1.34-inch outsole, a single pixel size of 1um, support for four-in-one pixels up to 2um. The sensor also supports three exposures, four-in-one HDR, on-chip combination, and the tone mapping function can provide stable and high-quality image output.</p>
<p>Huawei Mate 40E has been certified as early as last month. The information shows that the machine will use a 6.5-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 2376 x 1080 pixels and a chip with a main frequency of 2.86GHz said to be the Kirin 990 5G chip.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mate-40e.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-368062" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mate-40e.jpg?x44794" alt="Huawei Mate 40E" width="1200" height="780" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mate-40e.jpg 1200w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mate-40e-300x195.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mate-40e-768x499.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mate-40e-1024x666.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mate-40e-696x452.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mate-40e-1068x694.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/mate-40e-646x420.jpg 646w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></a></p>
<p>The Kirin 990 5G is the flagship 5G chip that Huawei previously launched on the Mate 30 series. It uses the world’s leading 7nm+ EUV process at the time. It has a native integrated 5G baseband with a smaller area and lower power consumption. The flagship SoC of Vinci-based NPU has strong overall performance.</p>
<p>In terms of appearance, the mate 40E maintains the same design as the Mate 40 model. The front uses a notch curved screen, and it also supports a 90Hz refresh rate. The back also uses a ring-shaped camera module solution.</p>
<p>At present, Huawei officials have not disclosed relevant information about the Mate 40E. However, since it has passed the network access certification, that is an indication that the device will be launched pretty soon.</p>
