Huawei is preparing two separate launch events in September, says credible leaker Digital Chat Station (DCS) on Weibo. Reportedly, the tri-fold Mate XT2 might launch early in the month, while the flagship Mate 90 series will follow in late September.

This timeline lines up with what other tipsters have said in recent weeks. Huawei was previously expected to launch the Mate 90 lineup in November like previous years, but multiple leaks now suggest the timeline has shifted to September, likely because Huawei wants to go hand-in-hand with new iPhones. DCS’s new leak adds weight to the claim.

What do we know?

The Mate XT2 is technically Huawei’s third tri-fold phone after the original Mate XT and the Mate XTs refresh that launched last September. As per reports, the new tri-fold will feature a new 3nm-based Kirin 9050 Pro chipset, a battery above 6,000mAh, and a redesigned hinge that reduces the screen crease on the 10.2-inch unfolded display. Huawei is also expected to offer new color options, including Mystic Black, Auspicious Red, Crimson Purple, and Bright White.

The Mate 90 series is Huawei’s next mainline flagships, including the standard model, Pro, Pro Max, and RS variants. Reportedly, Huawei is moving to flat screens across the line. 

The Mate 90 Pro Max and Mate 90 RS are also tipped to use dual periscope telephoto cameras. The phones will have battery capacity in the range of 6,800mAh and 7,000mAh, paired with a new 6.9-inch display. Both device lines are expected to run on the same Kirin 9050 Pro chipset as the tri-fold. 

Huawei has not confirmed either launch date. DCS has a track record of accurate calls on past Huawei devices, which adds some weight to this report. More specifics, including pricing and exact release dates, should surface closer to the expected launch time.

Huawei is playing its cards carefully in the competitive flagship smartphone market. Instead of putting all its weight behind one big launch, the company is spreading out its premium releases throughout the year to keep momentum going.

According to well-known tipster @RuryRen, the highly anticipated Huawei Mate 90 series is still on track for a September 2026 release. This is a bit earlier than the November timing we’ve seen in recent Mate generations, which could mean Huawei feels confident about its product readiness. September also puts it right in the middle of the usual high-season battle, including Apple’s expected new iPhones.

The tipster also mentioned that some additional models are expected to drop earlier, between July and August, though exact names weren’t revealed. Interestingly, they now claim that the previously rumored Pura 90s series has been cancelled.

This mid-year activity comes after the successful launch of the current Pura 90 series earlier in 2026. The Pura 90 Pro and Pro Max arrived in April as the first phones to use the new Kirin 9030S processor. The standard Pura 90 (with the Kirin 9010S) followed shortly after on May 8. Those releases showed Huawei continuing to push its in-house Kirin chips, with improvements in performance despite ongoing challenges.

The upcoming Mate 90 series is expected to build on that progress, likely bringing further refinements to the chipset, better power efficiency, stronger AI capabilities, and tighter integration with HarmonyOS.

For fans and potential buyers, this staggered strategy is actually pretty smart. The July–August models could act as a bridge with fresh features or improvements, while the Mate 90 in September aims to be the big flagship statement of the year. It’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Huawei’s Pura 90 series is the company’s first official effort to build a dedicated ecosystem around first-party external teleconverters. Now, it looks like Huawei could bring a similar camera-focused approach to its upcoming Mate 90 series.

Words for it come from Weibo tipster Fixed Focus Digital, who revealed that Huawei is working on external teleconverter support for the Mate lineup.

For those unfamiliar, a teleconverter is a clip-on optical accessory that multiplies the focal length of the lens beneath it. Instead of relying on digital cropping or AI-powered image enhancement, it provides true optical zoom.

Interestingly, the tipster also claims Huawei has switched suppliers for these external teleconverters, meaning the upcoming accessories could look and function quite differently from earlier versions.

The Mate 90 series is also said to feature a fresh design compared to the Mate 80 lineup, partly to accommodate this expanded camera ecosystem.

The camera upgrades may not stop there. As we previously reported, early leaks suggest the Mate 90 Pro Max and Mate 90 RS could feature dual periscope telephoto cameras. One prototype is reportedly being tested with a 10x optical zoom lens.

The Mate 90 will also bring Huawei’s latest Kirin chip

On the silicon side, the 2026 Kirin processor expected to power the Mate 90 series is rumored to introduce Huawei’s new LogicFolding architecture. Rather than relying solely on shrinking transistor sizes, the design reportedly stacks key logic circuits vertically, allowing Huawei to increase transistor density by as much as 53.5%.

Performance is also said to be approaching Intel’s 18A process and early-generation TSMC 3nm technology. According to the leak, power efficiency on performance cores could improve by 41 percent, while peak clock speeds may increase by 12.7 percent.

Huawei has already hinted at a fall 2026 launch window for the Mate 90 series. The Mate 80 series launched in November, so it’s likely that the successor will launch around the same time.
