Huawei, the Chinese-based consumer electronics tech giant, will launch its latest premium smartwatch – the new Huawei WATCH 3 Pro (2022) on its July 27th (Wednesday) launch event alongside Huawei’s next-generation operating system, HarmonyOS 3 and its latest 11-inch MatePad Pro 2022 tablet computer.

On Huawei’s official Chinese Weibo account, the brand shared a teaser video showcasing the upcoming highlighting features of the new Huawei WATCH 3 Pro (2022).

The new Huawei WATCH 3 Pro (2022) is the annual refresh of Huawei’s premium smartwatch series, the Huawei WATCH, with its predecessor being last year’s Huawei WATCH 3 Pro (2021). Although this year, it is rather strange that Huawei did not opt for the names, Huawei WATCH 4 Pro or Huawei Watch 5 Pro, for its latest premium smartwatch, which could indicate that the Huawei WATCH 3 Pro (2022) is a side grade.

According to ITHome, the Chinese technology news media outlet reports that the new Huawei WATCH 3 Pro (2022) is to feature Huawei’s own self-developed standalone watch navigation system that enables bikers and runners in the city to keep track of where they are currently and where they are heading on the watch’s display itself independently. 

The upcoming smartwatch also supports ECG functionality based on earlier reports from the outlet. The ECG functionality enables smartwatch users to quickly and accurately track down their current health status which includes heart rate and blood pressure levels.

The new Huawei WATCH 3 Pro (2022) is the sequel to last year’s original Huawei Watch 3 Pro (2021). The Huawei WATCH 3 Pro (2021) was officially released in the Chinese market on June 2, 2021. It featured a premium chassis that includes the glass front, ceramic back, and titanium metal frame. It is 5 ATM water-resistant (50m water resistant) whilst being rather lightweight compared to its flagship competitors at 63 grams.

The Huawei WATCH 3 Pro (2021) also supports eSIM along while the display up front is a 1.43-inch circular AMOLED that has a resolution of 466 x 466 pixels. The smartwatch is packed with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage. It runs on Huawei’s self-developed HarmonyOS 2.0 operating system.

The new Huawei WATCH 3 Pro (2022) launch event will be held on July 27th Wednesday at 7:30 pm Beijing Time (GMT +8) / 5 pm New Delhi Time (GMT +5:30) and 12:30 pm London Time (GMT +1). Huawei launched its smartwatch named Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro a few months ago in the Chinese market and later the company also introduced the smartwatch for the global markets and is available in Europe.

Now, the company is gearing up to launch the Huawei Watch 3 Pro with ECG in its home market China. As per the report, the device could be officially announced in the Chinese market on 27th July.

Along with the Watch 3 Pro ECG mode, Huawei is also expected to launch a few other products in the market, including FreeBuds Pro 2, Smart Screen S Pro 86, new MateBook X Pro, MatePad Pro 11, and Huawei Enjoy 50 Pro, among others.

We expect the specifications to be similar to GT 3 Pro smartwatch which comes in two sizes — 43mm and 46mm., featuring a 1.32-inch screen and a 1.43-inch display, respectively. Both variants come with an AMOLED panel, ceramic body, and sapphire glass.

It is equipped with a heart rate monitor, SpO2 sensor, body temperature, sleep tracker, stress monitor, and more. The smartwatch also comes with ECG to check the user’s heart rhythm and electrical activity. The wearable device offers 100 sports modes including 18 professional activities.

The smartwatch runs the company’s own HarmonyOS and comes with features like Bluetooth calling, notifications display, and support for multiple apps. The device also comes with an e-wallet and a built-in NFC. The smartwatch’s 46mm model is claimed to offer 14 days of usage whereas the 43mm variant is said to last 7 days on a single charge.

Huawei is bringing a cool new feature to the Watch 3 series. The smartwatch will be getting gesture controls highlighted by three smart gestures. Users can turn on the gesture control feature by heading to the application menu and click on Settings> Accessibility> Gestures to turn on the smart gesture feature.

The three smart gestures that will be available to users include raising your wrist and rubbing your fingers on the screen to open the Alipay QR code for contactless payment. The second one is making a fist and releasing it to answer an incoming call and finally, flipping the wrist to mute the call instantly is the third gesture. These are pretty cool and we expect the company to add more gesture control options in the future.

The Huawei Watch 3 series comprising of the Watch 3 and Watch 3 Pro was released in June this year after a hiatus since 2017 when the Watch 2 was released. The four-year wait was apparently worth it as the watch comes with several interesting features including a 3D rotating crown as well as a 1.43-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 466 X 466 pixels, a pixel density of up to 326PPI, a maximum brightness of 1000nit, and a refresh rate of 60Hz. The watch also features a stainless steel body, a 3D large-curvature mirror design, a 450mAH battery and is available in different strap options.

It runs on Huawei’s homegrown HarmonyOS 2 which is availing users of this cool new feature. Apart from gesture control, the watch also features 100+ sports modes, supports temperature, heart rate monitoring, fall detection, sedentary reminder among others. You also get support for remote camera shutter, music control, remote car control, smart home control, etc.

There is no release schedule yet for this update but since the watch is sold in markets outside China, we expect this feature to be available on the global version too.

Huawei today officially unveiled the self-developed HarmonyOS which is the brand’s response to the U.S ban on the use of Google Mobile Services. Alongside the new OS, the company also announced some new products that are powered by the HarmonyOS. The Huawei Watch 3 series is one of the products launched. The Watch 3 series is made up of the Huawei Watch 3 and Watch 3 Pro.

Huawei launched its first smartwatch – the Huawei Watch in 2015. This was followed by the Huawei Watch 2 launched in 2017. Since then, the company hasn’t launched a smartwatch until now. The two smartwatches won’t be selling in China only. Huawei will be releasing the models in the UK and other markets.

The Huawei wearables come with several professional health and fitness monitoring features and on top of these features, you get ultra-long battery life. For the first time, Huawei included a high-precision temperature sensor that detects skin temperature. The watch also comes with several new features like handwashing detection and fall detection. Users can also monitor their workout sessions as well as health and fitness parameters.

In terms of the design, the sleek Watch 3 series packs a polished stainless steel watch body with ultra-curved 3D glass and a large display. The Watch 3 series also comes with a 3D rotating crown that offers tactile feedback. The rotating crown has a high-precision finger movement recognition which affords users the ability to zoom in and out of images and slide across the menu options accurately. These features are made possible, thanks to HarmonyOS 2.

During the press conference, Huawei disclosed that it stayed four years without releasing a smartwatch due to the unavailability of an intuitive OS for its watches. The HarmonyOS 2 solves this challenge with the avalanche of features it brings. The OS introduces a whole new user interface with a grid launcher app menu, which complements the 3D rotating crown to deliver a smoother and more intuitive user experience.  The Watch 3 series also comes with several watch faces and watch straps, allowing users to personalize their smartwatch. The watch also features several attractive and innovative themes including technology, gaming, DIY, and short videos. The available straps include fluoroelastomer, nylon, leather, stainless steel, and titanium straps and the watch faces easily blend with any choice of the user.

The watch also gives users the convenience to view taxi information or flight status by raising their wrist while traveling, removing the cumbersome and most times inconveniencing routine of bringing out their smartphones for such purpose. You also get a pre-installed AppGallery which allows users to download compatible apps.

In terms of battery life, the Watch 3 Pro’s battery can last up to five days in Smart mode, and in the Ultra-long battery life mode it can stay powered on for 21 days. The vanilla Watch 3 will remain powered on for 3 days in the Smart mode and 14 days in the Ultra-long battery life mode.

Huawei Watch 3 & Watch 3 Pro Pricing & Availability

The Huawei Watch 3 will be available in Active, Classic, and Elite Edition while the Pro version will be available in Classic and Elite Edition.

In the UK, the Huawei Watch 3 will go on sale from June 18 via Huawei Store and will retail for £349.99 (~$495).  The device is presently on pre-order with a £20 deposit from now till June 17. Buyers who pre-order the smartwatch will get an additional £20 off the retail price and a free pair of Huawei FreeBuds Pro. On the other hand, the Huawei Watch 3 Pro will go on sale via Huawei Store and selected retailers from June 28 with the pricing starting at £499.99 (~$708). Reservation opens today with a £50 deposit and will run till June 27. The reservation guarantees the buyer the Watch 3 Pro with an additional £50 off as well as a free pair of the Huawei FreeBuds Pro.

In China, the Watch 3 starts at 2599 yuan (~$407) while the Watch 3 Pro starts at 3299 yuan (~$517). The prices are notably way cheaper than the UK pricing.

The Huawei Watch 3 series is set to launch along with the company’s proprietary HarmonyOS (also known as HongMengOS in China). But just prior to its official announcement, images of the wearable have leaked, showcasing the device running the new OS.

These images were spotted by ITHome, which found that a number of bloggers on Weibo, a Chinese microblogging website, have shared these images on the platform. The images of the wearables are allegedly for the Huawei Watch 3 and Watch 3 Pro that was taken in an offline store. Looking at these images, it can be observed that the brand is going with a round display, similar to the Watch GT 2 series that it launched previously.

Furthermore, the smartwatch will also sport a single knob dial along with a secondary flat button that will reside right below it. The design of the Watch series is somewhat minimalistic but with a sleek and classy look. Notably, the images of the packaging box have also been observed and it sports the phrase “Powered by HarmonyOS.” One image showcases the home screen of the device, which displays the time, date, and direct shortcuts to certain apps.

Similarly, the notifications can also be seen with alerts for missed calls and messages from the WeChat app. The leaked images also showcase the readings for what appears to be a SpO2 monitoring system that would track the users’ blood oxygen levels. This has been a rumored feature for the device. Last month, Huawei introduced two major consumer products in China. There were the HUAWEI Smart Screen V Series 2021 and the HUAWEI Band 6. Now, according to a new leak, the company will be releasing more products in June and some in May.

Popular leakster @长安数码君 (Changan Digital King) on Weibo has revealed the launch dates of not one but six new upcoming HUAWEI products. Two of them will be announced in May, followed by four in June.

Further, the tablet will be avaialble in two sizes (12.2-inch, 12.6-inch) and will be powered by HiSilicon Kirin 9000 SoC. On the other hand, the smartwatches will have third-party app support and an eSIM variant.

Lastly, the new HUAWEI Children’s Watch 4X could only differ in terms of color and the laptop could be the rumored HUAWEI MateBook 16.
