According to the manufacturer, the device is equipped with the latest generation optical in-screen fingerprint sensor, which looks like a camera and it can capture a photo of your thumbprint to unlock the screen. It comes from Goodix, the provider of in-screen fingerprint modules for tech giants like Huawei and Xiaomi. In addition, the company points out the NFC chip found inside, a feature missing from most budget devices. UMIDIGI is getting ready for its next flagship, UMIDIGI Z5 Pro, and has just teased a 64MP sample image shot by the device. As the company claims, the Z5 Pro will be among the first few models in the world to launch with the new 64MP Samsung sensor. This new sensor is almost certainly the Samsung ISOCELL GW1 which was announced by Samsung recently. This teaser means that Xiaomi and Realme won’t alone in offering this feature soon.

The company’s sample image shows a cat and a zoomed-in section of the cat’s fur. As indicated the 64MP sensor is from Samsung and should be the same Samsung ISOCELL GW1 as Xiaomi’s and Realme’s devices. There’s little more to say about the photo other than it certainly seems to pack plenty of detail. The GW1 sensor measures 1/1.7″ in size with 1.6um pixel size and is 38% larger than the current 48MP sensor. It uses ISOCELL Plus technology that increases light intake and catches colors more accurately resulting in bright, sharp, and vibrant images across different lighting environments.

The Z5 Pro will feature the 64MP sensor and while the company hasn’t yet announced this year’s Z Series, the Z5 Pro is definitely one of the devices coming soon. We hope that there will be a non-pro version that will at least feature a 48MP sensor on the back so that users will have to choose between 2 great devices according to their budget.

Compared to the previous-gen, the latest optical in-screen fingerprint sensor offered by Goodix has a 100% larger optical sensing area, an upgraded recognition algorithm, 35% faster screen unlock, and 30% better performance in extreme situations according to UMIDIGI. According to a recent leak, the Chinese manufacturer UMIDIGI is soon going to launch a new model following the big success of the A5 Pro. The leaked poster says that it is will be named UMIDIGI X but that might be a temporary name. According to the same poster, the phone is going to come with an in-display fingerprint sensor, a feature that is mostly found in expensive flagship devices. But according to UMIDIGI’s strategy until now, this one should be part of the budget market segment.

Currently, in-display fingerprint readers can only be applied to OLED displays so the UMIDIGI X will certainly come with one. That’s great since OLED panels have more accurate colors with true black, better contrast, and sometimes better brightness than common LCD panels. Also, they are more power efficient most of the times since LCD panels have always-on LEDs to function while OLED panels only light the portion of the display that’s needed. Apart from the fingerprint reader, the poster shows that there is no notch on the top. Does this mean that it could come with a fullview display and a pop-up selfie camera like Xiaomi Mi 9T or OnePlus 7 Pro? We’ll investigate and post any new information that comes up.

Of course, there is no launch date available right now nor is the price. It is speculated that UMIDIGI would reveal the new device in early August. Samsung introduced the world’s first device featuring ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint scanner with improved accuracy. Whereas Apple’s iPhone is still waiting to abode the new generation of fingerprint sensors within the display.

The waiting period is over, as Apple and Qualcomm joined hands to introduce in-screen fingerprint sensor on the new iPhone, reports industry chain. Technology similar to Galaxy S10’s ultrasonic sensor is being under works for iPhone. As like always, Apple is working tirelessly with Qualcomm to bring the best quality fingerprint reader for the upcoming iPhone.

Ultrasonic in-screen sensors are considered to be faster, safer and work accurately even in wet conditions. As compared to optical sensors, it can unlock the device in 250 ms and carries a 1% maximum rejection rate. Unlike the 300 microns sensing in traditional sensors, Qualcomm’s second generation sensors can efficiently work with up to 800 microns.

Despite these advancements, we have seen cases where users have managed to unlock the device using a printed 3D fingerprint models. It is vulnerable to unauthenticated unlocking methods as of now. Apple will have to overcome these flaws in Qualcomm’s second generation fingerprint sensor before implementing it on the new iPhone.
