The announcement has been made by the South Korean tech giant.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/tiktok-1.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-339589" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/tiktok-1.jpg?x10805" alt="TikTok" width="800" height="479" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/tiktok-1.jpg 800w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/tiktok-1-300x180.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/tiktok-1-768x460.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/tiktok-1-696x417.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/tiktok-1-701x420.jpg 701w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></a></p>
<p>The app is now available on LG smart TVs with webOS 5.0 and webOS 6.0. The firmware update for the models has already started rolling in from October 7, while older models will get the requisite update subsequently. The UK, France, and Germany will kick start the launch of the app according to TikTok. It is believed that the app is not yet available for LG smart TVs in the US, as both LG and TikTok have been silent on the issue at this time.</p>
<p>It is yet to be seen how the new app will look on large smart TV screens since TikTok is optimized for portrait-oriented mobile viewing. The move is also indicative of TikTok’s expansionist moves to have more users of its app across various segments. It will also enjoy higher advertising rates from TV viewing.</p>
<p>TikTok already has a strong presence in France, Germany, and the UK with the app available in Samsung TVs, Android TVs, and Fire TVs in these three countries. The addition of LG smart TVs to the mix will further boost the potential and reach of the app in these countries. There are no indications yet whether the availability will be scaled up to other European countries and regions.</p>

We&#8217;ve seen LG explore different display types for its smart TV including rollable and transparent TV designs. The Korean tech giant has been granted a new patent for an extendable display.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/lg-oled-tv.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-373820" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/lg-oled-tv.jpg?x10805" alt="LG retractable OLED TV" width="770" height="545" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/lg-oled-tv.jpg 770w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/lg-oled-tv-300x212.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/lg-oled-tv-768x544.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/lg-oled-tv-100x70.jpg 100w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/lg-oled-tv-696x493.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/lg-oled-tv-593x420.jpg 593w" sizes="(max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px" /></a></p>
<p>The patent application was filed with the State Intellectual Property Office of China on September 1, 2020, and was approved on February 26, 2021. The design of the TV seems to be an intermediate product between LG&#8217;s rollable TV and transparent TV. The TV consists of two parts: a TV host and a base.</p>
<p><a href="https://nl.letsgodigital.org/televisies-tvs/lg-uitschuifbare-tv-2021/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">LetsGoDigital</a> in its usual fashion has come out with a set of renders showing the retractable TV. Judging from the patent sketches and LetsGoDigital&#8217;s renders, the TV adopts a retractable design whereby the size of the base is similar to that of the TV. When not in use or for other purposes, the length of the TV can be adjusted freely.</p>
<p>In addition, there is a long strip opening in the middle of the base. When the TV is completely stored in the base, the opening can display the date and time. When the user listens to music, control elements such as play, pause, up and down music will also be displayed there.</p>
<p>The TV brings to mind the LG Signature R smart TV which was <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/01/08/lg-signature-oled-tv-r-with-roll-up-display-showcased-at-ces-2019/">first unveiled at CES 2019</a> but only <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/10/20/lg-signature-oled-tv-r-finally-goes-on-sale-in-south-korea-for-100-million-won87000/">went on sale in Korea in October last year</a> for around $87,000.  The smart TV utilizes a 65-inch flexible OLED panel and has several features but the most impressive is the ability of the screen to be partially or fully retracted into the base.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/lg-oled-tv-2.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-373821" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/lg-oled-tv-2.jpg?x10805" alt="LG extendable OLED TV designextendable OLED TV design" width="770" height="353" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/lg-oled-tv-2.jpg 770w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/lg-oled-tv-2-300x138.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/lg-oled-tv-2-768x352.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/lg-oled-tv-2-696x319.jpg 696w" sizes="(max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px" /></a></p>
<p>At CES 2021, LG announced a 55-inch transparent OLED TV. In the storage state, there is a long strip window to display the date, time, etc., in the semi-raised state. It can also display the user&#8217;s sleep duration, heart rate data, and other health data. When fully raised, it is a complete big screen TV.</p>
<p>The two existing models and this patented version all adopt a retractable design but we can&#8217;t figure out where the difference lies. We expect this version to be a more affordable model, though.</p>
