The HONOR 50 will be the first to receive it in Q2 2022, followed by HONOR 50 Lite in Q3 2022.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">The timeline shared by the company is lackluster by today’s standards. Considering that these are the only two main phones from the brand for global markets, it is even worse. Hopefully, HONOR improves its software situation sooner than later.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">At the same time, it would be great if new HONOR smartphones made their way to international markets a bit earlier. The HONOR 50 series </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/06/16/honor-50-5g-honor-50-pro-5g-curved-oled-displays-gms-snapdragon-778-launched/"><span style="font-weight: 400">initially debuted</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> in China in June 2021. <p><span style="font-weight: 400">Similarly, the HONOR 60 series </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/12/01/honor-60-honor-60-pro-official-snapdragon-778g-plus-ring-camera-design-more/"><span style="font-weight: 400">already went official</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> in the brand’s home country in December. However, there’s still no official word from the company regarding its availability outside mainland China.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400">HONOR is all set to launch its first premium smartphone series after being </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/11/17/huawei-sells-honor-subsidiary-to-zhixin-new-information-technology-co-ltd/"><span style="font-weight: 400">sold off by HUAWEI</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">. These devices called the HONOR Magic3 series are </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/07/15/honor-confirms-magic-3-series-launch-august-12/"><span style="font-weight: 400">scheduled</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> to go official on August 12.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Ahead of that, a </span><a href="https://weibo.com/6734482564/Ks2be4M5V"><span style="font-weight: 400">tipster</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> on Weibo says that these phones will arrive with Magic UI 5.0, a new version of the company’s mobile software. As per him, the latest Magic UI 5.0 will be based on </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/HUAWEI/"><span style="font-weight: 400">HUAWEI</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">’s HarmonyOS.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">For those unaware, Chinese Android OEMs are being rumored to use </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/HarmonyOS/"><span style="font-weight: 400">HarmonyOS</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> on their smartphones for the past few months. Hence, it’s not surprising to learn that HONOR could be one of them.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">It also makes sense for the brand to continue using its ex-parent company’s software. Because it was also responsible for the improvements in that software through its very own R&amp;D department, which it still has access to as part of the sale.</span></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-376822 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/HONOR-Logo-Featured.jpg?x10805" alt="HONOR Logo Featured" width="4000" height="2250" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/HONOR-Logo-Featured.jpg 4000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/HONOR-Logo-Featured-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/HONOR-Logo-Featured-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/HONOR-Logo-Featured-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/HONOR-Logo-Featured-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/HONOR-Logo-Featured-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/HONOR-Logo-Featured-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/HONOR-Logo-Featured-1920x1080.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 4000px) 100vw, 4000px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">If it was not the case, then </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/HONOR/"><span style="font-weight: 400">HONOR</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> would have let go of features like Multi Screen Collaboration, which it still uses on its smartphones to connect with its laptops, TVs, and tablets.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Also, it is worth noting that HarmonyOS on smartphones and tablets in its current form is merely AOSP. In other words, it’s just a new version of EMUI with a different name. Hence, even if HONOR uses HarmonyOS as the base for its Magic UI 5.0, it will be able to run Android applications.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">That said, we expect to learn more about the software on the </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/HONOR-Magic-3/"><span style="font-weight: 400">HONOR Magic3 series</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> when it goes official next week.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400">The FCC (Federal Communications Commission) has </span><a href="https://fccid.io/2AYGCCHL-LX1/"><span style="font-weight: 400">certified</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> an HONOR smartphone with model number <strong>CHL</strong>. The certification does not reveal much about this handset except for a few tidbits.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">For starters, this device has already been <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/02/12/honor-v40-yok-chl-hjc-ntn-nza-eec-certifications/">certified by EEC</a>. it will be a <strong>4G phone</strong> and therefore, we can expect it to be a budget smartphone. Apart from LTE, it will also have support for 3G, 2G, WiFi, Bluetooth 5.1, and downlink carrier aggregation.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Further, the listing confirms the device’s rated battery capacity to be 3,900mAh. In other words, this handset will be backed by a <strong>4,000mAh battery</strong> (typical). Also, the phone will be TÜV Rheinland-certified for low blue light emission and will be shipping with a bundled pair of wired earphones.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">The most interesting information of all is that the forthcoming <strong>HONOR CHL</strong> could run <strong>Magic UI 5.0</strong> out of the box. FCC clearly states the handset’s software version to be <strong>5.0.1.69(C900E12R1P2)</strong>.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">For those unaware, </span><a href="https://gizmochina.com/tag/HONOR/"><span style="font-weight: 400">HONOR</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> is yet to officially announce Magic UI 5.0. In fact, it is still rolling out </span><a href="https://gizmochina.com/tag/Magic-UI-4-0/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Magic UI 4.0</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> stable update to eligible devices worldwide. Hence, the software build number could be a typo.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Anyhoo, we expect to learn more about this phone before its official launch via leaks, benchmarks, and more certifications, just like any other smartphone these days.</span></p>

<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-375428 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/HONOR-20-series.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="1199" height="675" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/HONOR-20-series.jpg 1199w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/HONOR-20-series-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/HONOR-20-series-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/HONOR-20-series-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/HONOR-20-series-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/HONOR-20-series-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/HONOR-20-series-746x420.jpg 746w" sizes="(max-width: 1199px) 100vw, 1199px" /></p>
<p>If you recall, the stable update has already been rolled out to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/08/honor-20-pro-v20-magic-2-magic-ui-4-0-stable-update/">these devices in China</a>. Now, the global variants of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-honor-20/">HONOR 20</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-honor-20-pro/">HONOR 20 Pro</a>, and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-honor-v20/">HONOR V20</a> are getting the Magic UI 4.0 global stable version. Carrying the build with firmware version 11.0.0.138, an OTA update weighing about 1.84GB in size is rolling out.</p>
<p>This software version is based on the EMUI 11 which is in turn an Android 10-based UI without GMS. Huawei <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/09/10/huawei-announces-emui-11-features-updated-beta-devices/">unveiled the EMUI 11</a> back in September 2020. Due to the <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei-us-ban">tussle with the US</a>, the company couldn&#8217;t incorporate the latest <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android-11">Android 11</a> as Google was barred from working with the Chinese giant.</p>
<p>That said, the UI still had improved features like Photo sharing Privacy, Gallery, ringtones, UI animation, multiwindow mode, and more. The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Magic-UI-4-0/">Magic UI 4.0</a>, which is based on this, also has the relevant features and if you are having one of the devices mentioned above, you can expect the following features to land on your device:</p>
<ul>
<li> Artistic themes</li>
<li>Multi-screen collaboration</li>
<li>Smoother animation</li>
<li>Super notepad</li>
<li>Subtle effect</li>
<li>Rhythmic ringtones</li>
<li>Notepad &amp; Photo sharing Privacy</li>
<li>Undisturbed screen protection, and more.</li>
</ul>
<p>Anyway, the update is reportedly in the early stages and it might take a few days to reach everyone as a result of staggered rollout. Huawei has announced the plan of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/02/22/harmonyos-upgrade-huawei-flagships-mate-x2-from-april-2021/">updating the flagships to its HarmonyOS</a> in the future and we will have to wait and see what HONOR does for its devices.</p>

Up until before the sale, <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Huawei</a> and Honor have shared technologies just the way <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi">Xiaomi</a> and <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/redmi">Redmi</a> does. Now that they have cut the ties between them, a necessary move to ensure the survival of Honor, there are expected changes to the way Honor&#8217;s business operates.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-227030" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/New-Honor-Logo.jpg?x10805" alt="New Honor Logo" width="575" height="341" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/New-Honor-Logo.jpg 575w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/New-Honor-Logo-300x178.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 575px) 100vw, 575px" /></p>
<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/11/17/huawei-sells-honor-subsidiary-to-zhixin-new-information-technology-co-ltd/">joint statement</a> announcing the sale says that Huawei will not own any share in the new company, and it has been reported that operations and after-sales services will not be impacted. However, Honor will have to make new changes to show that it is no longer a Huawei-owned business.</p>
<p>We know these changes will come as Honor released a statement <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/11/19/honor-security-updates-after-sales-service-products/">assuring users that it will continue to provide security updates and after-sales service for its existing products</a>. These products are those that it launched during its existence as a Huawei-owned company, some of which launched with Huawei Mobile Services. Below are some of the changes we expect to see:</p>
<h5></h5>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-156350" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Google-Mobile-Services-GMS.png?x10805" alt="Google Mobile Services" width="1323" height="525" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Google-Mobile-Services-GMS.png 1323w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Google-Mobile-Services-GMS-300x119.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Google-Mobile-Services-GMS-768x305.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/Google-Mobile-Services-GMS-1024x406.png 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1323px) 100vw, 1323px" /></p>
<h6><strong>A return to Google Mobile Services</strong></h6>
<p>Huawei phones released in the past year have launched with Huawei Mobile Services. While Huawei&#8217;s answer to Google Mobile Services (GMS) is gaining new features rapidly, lots of folks are not keen to pick up a phone that doesn&#8217;t have support for Google services right out of the box.</p>
<p>Now that Honor is now an independent company not related to Huawei, we expect new Honor-branded phones made for the international market will come with GMS.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-222682" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Honor-Magic-2-update-b-e1583942949333.jpg?x10805" alt="Honor Magic 2 Magic UI 2.0 update" width="554" height="429" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Honor-Magic-2-update-b-e1583942949333.jpg 554w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Honor-Magic-2-update-b-e1583942949333-300x232.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Honor-Magic-2-update-b-e1583942949333-542x420.jpg 542w" sizes="(max-width: 554px) 100vw, 554px" /></p>
<h6><strong>A redesigned Magic UI or a New UX Skin entirely</strong></h6>
<p>Honor phones come with an Android skin called <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/magic-ui">Magic UI</a>. Now in its fourth iteration, Magic UI is closely related to Huawei&#8217;s own <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/EMUI">EMUI</a> but with a few additions. If Honor intends to continue with the Magic UI skin, its next version will have to be very different from EMUI and not just a rebadge. We speculate that Honor may eventually ditch Magic UI and launch a new skin entirely just as Vivo did recently by dropping <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/funtouch-os">Funtouch OS</a> and announcing <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/originos">OriginOS</a>.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-337265" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Snapdragon-732G-SoC.jpg?x10805" alt="Snapdragon 732G" width="750" height="397" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Snapdragon-732G-SoC.jpg 750w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Snapdragon-732G-SoC-300x159.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Snapdragon-732G-SoC-696x368.jpg 696w" sizes="(max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px" /></p>
<h6><strong>Snapdragon-powered Honor Phones</strong></h6>
<p>It has been a while since we saw a Honor smartphone powered by a Snapdragon processor. The ones that come to mind are the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-honor-8c/">Honor 8C</a> which has a Snapdragon 632 processor and the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-honor-8x-max-sd636/">Honor 8X Max</a> which is powered by the Snapdragon 660. Both phones were launched in 2018.</p>
<p>Most Honor phones released since 2019 have come with Huawei&#8217;s Kirin processors, and this year, we have seen Honor also launch phones with <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/mediatek">MediaTek</a> 5G processors.</p>
<p>Now that it is no longer a Huawei-owned company, it should have access to <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/qualcomm">Qualcomm</a> processors and not <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/11/13/report-qualcomm-can-only-supply-4g-chips-to-huawei/">limited to 4G chipsets like its former owner</a>. This means we should see Honor phones powered by new Snapdragon 4G and 5G processors such as the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-720g">Snapdragon 720G</a> and the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-765g">Snapdragon 765G</a>.</p>
<p>We expect this to be good news for markets where Honor has continued to release phones with the already old <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/kirin-710">Kirin 710</a> processor.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Conclusion</strong></p>
<p>These are the changes we expect to see in the near future from Honor. However, these changes may take a while to arrive and not be immediate. Nevertheless, we look forward to seeing what the future holds for Honor as it forges a new path.</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>UP NEXT: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/11/19/honor-face-new-challenges-compete-against-huawei/">Honor to face new challenges by competing against its ex-parent company Huawei</a></strong></h6>
