Back in November 2020, Huawei sold its then subsidiary Honor to Zhixin New Information Technology Co. Ltd. As a result, Honor got access to Google Mobile Services as well as other American-origin supplies for the newly unveiled HONOR 50 series. A few days after the announcement of these smartphones, the brand has finally shed some light on the software support for its older devices.

Huawei and Honor executives have confirmed to SuomiMobiili.fi (via GSMArena) that older HONOR-branded smartphones will continue to receive software updates. However, this support will come from the brand’s then-parent company Huawei.

Only select handset models released before April 1, 2021 will be eligible for this scheme. That’s because Honor’s exit from Huawei took place between March and April of this year.

As per Joonas Nurmela, Huawei’s Chief Public Relations and Communications Manager, HONOR-branded smartphones will get full product support, including standard security and software updates like the HUAWEI-branded models throughout their lifecycle. The executive even revealed the list of eligible handsets.
