Meitu held a press conference today in Beijing, China where it unveiled its new branding. Along with that, the company also released its flagship smartphone — Meitu V6, which was launched a few weeks ago.

The Meitu V6 is a luxury device that comes with colourful hand-stitched calfskin leather and 18K gold rivets on its back, along with a gold coloured metal frame around the smartphone.

Apart from the luxurious design, the highlight of the smartphone is its camera. It features a dual camera setup at the back as well as at the front. It comes with dual Sony IMX362 sensor with 12-megapixel lenses.

The front, as well as the rear camera, comes with f/1.8 aperture, 6P lens along with fourth-generation dual ISPs and optical image stabilizer (OIS). As per the company, the camera can focus an object in just 0.13 seconds in real-time. The back camera comes with four LED flash.

It uses a new artificial intelligence technology that is developed by MTlab. There are several features based on that technology, including light effect camera, movie portraits, night view camera mode and backlighting mode. As per the company, the combination of phone’s hardware and this new AI technology enables the device to act like a “portable SLR”.

In terms of specifications, the smartphone comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD display with screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. Under the hood, it is powered by a 10-core processor from MediaTek, coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB/128GB internal storage. The device packs a 3,100mAh battery and comes with the usual connectivity features such as 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS.

The smartphone runs on company’s own MEIOS 4.1, which is based on Android Nougat operating system. It features a face unlock mode, which has 106 face positioning points that automatically recognizes the face for quick unlocking. There is also a “super game mode”, which is basically a do not disturb mode for gaming.

The standard version of the smartphone comes in four colour options — Rotterdam Orange, Edinburgh Blue, Melbourne Green and Moroccan Powder (Pink). Along with that, the company has also introduced service that can be used to order a customized design. There’s a selection for leather, accessories, gift boxes, among others.

The Meitu V6 smartphone is priced at 5,099 Yuan for the Standard Edition, while the Advanced Custom Edition which costs 6,999 Yuan. The device will go on sale from November 23 through select stores, including the company’s official website and Meitu’s store on JD.com.

Meitu should be a familiar name already. The phone manufacturer/selfie app maker’s latest phone is the Meitu V6. While it maintains the hexagonal-design of its predecessors, it is in a class of its own with respect to design and specs.

Meitu V6 Design

The Meitu V6 is a luxury device through and through. From the colorful hand-stitched calfskin leather that is available in Edinburgh Blue, Melbourne Green, Morocco Powder (pink), and Rotterdam Orange, to the 18K gold rivets on its back and gold colored metal frame. Let’s also not forget it has dual cameras on both sides and four LED flash on the rear.

In a world where manufacturers are moving towards smaller bezels, Meitu is not scared of making them bigger. The top bezel of the V6 is huge thanks in part to the dual cameras. The lower bottom doesn’t miss out on the size too as it houses a circular fingerprint scanner. The Meitu V6 rounds off the design with its boomerang-shaped front facing stereo speakers at the top and bottom.

Meitu V6 Specs

The Meitu V6 has a 5.49” FHD OLED display. It is powered by an unspecified processor clocked at 2.8GHz and comes with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM. Storage is 128GB on both variants.

The V6 packs 4 cameras in total -two on each side. The primary sensor on both sides is the Sony IMX362 with a F/1.8 aperture, 6P lens, 4th gen dual ISPs, and OIS. The secondary cameras are 5MP sensors for capturing depth of field information for portrait images. While the front doesn’t have its own LED flash, the sensors on the back are flanked by dual LED flash on each side.

Meitu doesn’t disappoint with the ton of filters and beauty enhancements built into the camera app. There are also live filters for video recording. Since this is a camera-centric phone, it is easy to understand why it has 128GB of storage.

The Meitu V6 runs Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. It has a 3100mAh battery and comes with the usual connectivity features.

Availability

Pricing for the Meitu V6 has not been revealed yet. However, pre-order for the phone will begin on the 13th of November. It will then go on sale on the 23rd.

Chinese phone maker Meitu has disclosed that it would be launching a new smartphone on November 1.  The smartphone’s identity was also revealed to be the Meitu V6 which belongs to the luxury V-series. The device was announced a couple of months back to drop in November and it recently got the nod from the Chinese telecoms regulatory agency (TENAA) where it appeared as Meitu MP1605.

The TENAA listing also comes along with the photos of the device captured from all angles. The device is indeed a luxury model with a leather back and it readily brings to mind the now-defunct Vertu luxury phone line. The device features a dual camera setup at the rear as well as two LED flashlights located at the outer edge of the cameras. Also, there is a dual camera setup t the front, making the device a quad camera phone. Overall, the shape is very much similar to previous Meitu models.

As for the specification, the TENAA listing shows the Meitu V6 would feature a 5.5-inch OLED display with an FHD resolution of 1920 x 1080 p. The device will be powered by a 2.8GHz MediaTek processor backed by 4GB RAM of one model and 6GB RAM on another model. Both models get 128GB of internal storage. The device is fueled by a 3100mAh battery. The device will also be available in Flame Red, Glacier Blue, Dark Purple, Monet Powder colours.
