We saw the Vivo S1 feature a very tiny front camera sensor on its display. So, Meizu could use a similar strategy to bring this render to life. Thanks to the new placement of the camera, the bezels on the top as well as the bottom are extremely thin, thereby increasing the screen to body ratio. The render also shows a screen fingerprint solution on the front. There are three cameras at the back with a ring flash below the setup.

I should add that this is most likely a fan-made render of the Meizu 17th. We have already seen another render with a totally different design (it had a curved display).

Also, if you remember, we had seen ZTE patent a very similar design for a smartphone. The punch hole camera was hidden between the network icons. You can read more about it here.

The ‘T’ in 16T stands for ‘Turbo’ and the phone will be a gaming-centric model that should take on the likes of the Red Magic 3S and the Black Shark 2 Pro.

What’s interesting is that Meizu 16T likely passed through TENAA earlier this month under the model name M928Q. The certification revealed that the phone is still using the slower Snapdragon 855 processor (2.84GHz) instead of the ‘Plus’ variant. It had a large 4500mAh battery onboard and a triple (12+8+5MP) camera setup at the back. Moreover, it weighed just 183 grams, which is pretty lightweight for a 4500mAh battery powered smartphone.

Editor’s Pick: Meizu 17 render leaks revealing even slimmer bezels than Meizu 16s Pro

While the Meizu 16T might use the older Snapdragon 855 chipset, the real highlight of the new device is said to be its pricing. Meizu CEO Jack Wong had revealed earlier this year that the 16T is expected to be priced around 2000-2500 Yuan ($280-$350), much lower than the Black Shark 2 Pro and Nubia Red Magic 3S which start at 2999 yuan ($423).

The current Meizu M16S flagships are pretty good smartphones but in front of competition like the Mi 9 Pro 5G and the Mate 30 series, it doesn’t have anything significant to set it apart. So it remains to be seen how the Meizu 16T can distinguish itself in the highly competitive Chinese market.

We think the announcement is related to the Meizu phone with the model number M928Q which appeared on TENAA last week. Seeing as the Weibo post includes a Meizu 16s Pro hashtag, the TENAA phone is likely a variant of the new flagship.

According to the TENAA listing, the Meizu M928Q has a 6.5-inch 2232 x 1080 OLED display. It is powered by a 2.84GHz octa-core processor which is actually the Snapdragon 855. There is 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage but no support for storage expansion.

The Meizu M928Q also has triple rear cameras like the 16s Pro but a different configuration and design. It is a 12MP + 8MP + 5MP setup. Although the sensors are stacked on top of each other on the left just like the Meizu 16s Pro’, it doesn’t use the ring-flash design which means the third sensor and LED flash are not integrated together. The second camera sensor also has a red ring around it. Up in front is a 16MP sensor for selfies and video calls.

[envira-gallery id=”275113″]

The rest of the specs include an in-display fingerprint scanner, Android 9 Pie pre-installed, and a 4400mAh battery. It will be available in blue, green, and red. These are the same colors used for the font of the figures in the poster above. The phone measures 159.63 x 78.2 x 8.3 millimeters and weighs 183 grams. The extra thickness and weight are not surprising as the phone packs a bigger battery capacity than the Meizu 16s Pro.

We strongly believe Meizu’s announcement for tomorrow is related to this device. When it launches, it should be cheaper than the base model of the Meizu 16s Pro which is priced at ¥2699 (~$379).

While the pace of smartphone unveiling has reduced, the Chinese phone maker has not deviated from its spectacular design which has at its bedrock, a resolve to maintain the symmetry of smartphone display. That is what the company did with the new Meizu 16s Pro.

The 16s Pro comes with a spectacular design which in actual sense looks like the Meizu 16. There is no notch at the top of the screen but the device presents with an ultra-thin bezel at the top just wide enough to hold the selfie camera. The bezel at the bottom edge of the display is also the same size as that at the top. The bezels at the sides are almost completely off. But for the white colour of the display edges, it would have been difficult to notice the side bezels.

The Meizu 16s Pro is also a beauty to behold from the rear. The device uses a dual-curved edge design and a glass panel. There is a vertically stacked camera module bearing three camera sensors. The third camera sensor is bordered by Meizu’s patented ring flash, adding to the beauty. The rear cameras are the only occupants of the back panel as the device doesn’t have a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Although the 16s Pro doesn’t use a pop-up selfie camera design, the SIM card slot is moved to the bottom edge flanking the USB-C port. This could be to reduce the size of the device. The 16s Pro is just 7.65mm thick and weighs 166 grams.

To recall, the Meizu 16s Pro packs a 6.2-inch Super AMOLED display with an aspect ratio of 18.6:9 and full HD+ resolution of 2232 x 1080 pixels. The display has a screen ratio of 91.53 percent. The display of the phone is embedded with a Super mTouch in-screen fingerprint scanner. Keeping the lights on is a 3,600mAh battery that supports 24W rapid charging.

A phone which looks simply amazing on the paper, despite the company is all but one of the best-selling smartphones manufacturers at the moment. And it is even equipped with the new Snapdragon 855+ which is the best you can expect in the actual Android world. But is it as valid as the other recent devices with the same chipsets sold at similar price tags? There is nothing better than a comparison to figure it out: here, we compared the Meizu 16s Pro with the new Vivo iQOO Pro and the Nubia Z20, both with the astonishing Snapdragon 855+ on board.

Design

The dual display drives me crazy, at least when we talk about aesthetics. That is why Nubia Z20 is my favorite device in this trio. Vivo iQOO Pro is a gaming-centric device, so there was not a lot of attention in order to make it the most elegant phone out there. On the other hand, some may like the Meizu 16s Pro due to its original front design, as it features a notch-less display but it still has a very high screen-to-body ratio thanks to its well-optimized display bezels. Further, the Meizu 16s Pro is the most compact and lightweight device due to its smaller display and battery.

Display

Besides having a dual display, the Nubia Z20 even seems to be the device with the best display quality. Indeed, it is the only to be HDR10-compliant, a technology which allows enhancing color reproduction a lot, especially with multimedia content. Further, the Nubia Z20 has a comfortable rear display which boasts a more compact size (5.1 inches) but still a Full HD+ resolution and the AMOLED technology. The dual display allows saving battery and using the rear cameras as front cameras too. Meizu 16s Pro’s main display is more or less at the same level as the Nubia Z20 thanks to its very high DCI-P3 coverage and 160 Hz touch sensing, very useful for gaming.

Hardware/Software

All of these devices boast the most amazing chipset in the Android market: the Snapdragon 855+ running at a max frequency of 2.96 GHz and offering 15 percent more graphics performance compared to the Snapdragon 855. Further, they feature UFS 3.0 storage that is like having an SSD on a phone, compared to traditional eMMC internal storages. As a performance lover, I would prefer the Vivo iQOO Pro for a simple reason: it has up to 12 GB of RAM. But if you need a lot of storage go for the Nubia Z20 as it is the only to feature up to 512 GB.

Camera

With a 48 MP main sensor, OIS, 3x optical zoom and 8K video recording, Nubia Z20 looks the most outstanding camera phone on the paper. It even lets you use rear cameras as front cameras thanks to the secondary display. But even the Meizu 16s Pro has OIS, as well as a high resolution for the secondary sensors. Only by testing both thoroughly we will have the chance to give you a definitive verdict, but Meizu 16s Pro just debuted, so it is not possible at the moment.

Battery

Vivo iQOO Pro wins the battery comparison thanks to its bigger 4500 mAh unit, but the Nubia Z20 will probably last more in some scenarios if you only use the secondary display which is way more efficient. But note that Vivo iQOO Pro has a much faster charging technology.

Price

€410/$455 for the Vivo iQOO Pro, €450/$500 for the Nubia Z20 and just €340/$376 for the Meizu 16s Pro. That is why the latter definitely wins the value for money award. But on the paper, Nubia Z20 looks more convincing due to its useful dual display, amazing cameras, and a bigger battery.

Even as of several years back when other custom ROMs are being plagued with issues, Meizu’s Flyme OS has been outstanding. But in the past two years, Flyme’s progression seems to have slowed down drastically.

As early as the beginning of this year, Meizu Technology’s founder Huang Zhang (Jerry Wang) had revealed that Flyme 8 was already in the works. Since then, several details have been revealed but no date was fixed for the release. That is about to change as Meizu may officially unveil Flyme 8 on August 28. A press invite sent out by the Chinese company showed the company will the Flyme 8 OS alongside the Meizu 16s Pro. Already, the Meizu 16s Pro is expected to drop on August 28 and reservation is even ongoing.

Flyme 8 is expected to bring a new, refreshed look to the custom ROM with new features such as fingerprint vortex animation, small window 2.0, home guard 3.0, and game mode 4.0. The Meizu 16s Pro is expected to be the first model to get the new custom ROM version. Since the Flyme 8 has been a long time coming, we don’t expect the company to delay before rolling out updates to its old models.

Then earlier today we saw the device’s specifications via an AnTuTu benchmark listing. Now the company president is posting pictures of the device over on Weibo.

Meizu President Yang Yan went to Weibo with an image of the upcoming device. Here, he’s specifically teasing the green colour scheme of the device, a first for a Meizu device. It also gives us a pretty good look at the new device, though there’s not really much to say about it. It’s very similar to the Meizu 16s, even down to the button layouts.

Other than that, the company’s still keeping hush about the device. That is, at least, from an official standpoint. Today’s AnTuTu leak has basically revealed the entire spec sheet for the device, and it’s pretty impressive to say the least. The Snapdragon 855+ SoC and Adreno 640 GPU by themselves are already pretty impressive, but the rest of specs are good too.

Editor’s Pick: Throwback Tech Thursday: We Revisit Nokia 9210 Communicator, the phone that could send& receive FAX

That Snapdragon 855+ SoC is coupled with 6 GB of RAM and it features an internal storage of 128 GB. It could be equipped with UFS 3.0 storage. The Android 9 Pie OS comes preinstalled on the device. AnTuTu claims that the smartphone has a front camera of 20-megapixel and its rear panel has a 48-megapixel triple camera system.

Meizu 16s Pro Specifications and Price (Rumored)

The display of the Meizu 16s Pro is speculated to 90Hz refresh rate and a touch sampling rate of 120Hz. It will come with an in-display fingerprint reader.
Recent reports have revealed that the Meizu 16s Pro will be arriving as improved version of the Meizu 16 Plus smartphone from last year and it will be a ‘Pro’ version of the Meizu 16s phone that was announced few months ago in China. In July, a listing of the Meizu 16s Pro smartphone was spotted on Taobao Chinese retailer site. The image of the phone that was seen on the listing showed that it largely resembled the Meizu 16s in terms of design. However, one striking difference on the Pro model was that it spotted triple rear cameras. Hence, the Meizu 16s Pro will be the company’s first flagship smartphone to sport triple rear cameras.

The attached image showed the phone will have triple rear cameras and an in-display fingerprint scanner. Now, a photo of the purchase page from the official Meizu website has surfaced online, revealing more details.

Starting with the design of the phone, the design is similar to that of the Meizu 16s. The bezels seem to be of the same thickness. The slit for the earpiece is shorter and the hole for the front-facing camera looks smaller but it might just be as a result of the perspective the image was taken.

On the back, there are three rear cameras arranged vertically in a single housing while the ring-styled LED flash sits below the setup. The color variant in the image is called Pearl White, unlike the Taobao listing which shows a blue variant. The page doesn’t have any other variant but we doubt Meizu will release only one color variant.

The photo reveals the Meizu 16s Pro has a 48MP AI triple rear cameras and packs a 4010mAh battery, an increase of 410mAh over that of the Meizu 16s’ battery capacity. We don’t know what type of the lens the third camera sensor is but seeing as ultrawide angle cameras are the trend among triple camera phones, this will most likely be the one Meizu goes with.

The phone will also come with OneMind 3.0 and run Flyme 8 out of the box which should be based on Android 9 Pie.

The selected version of the Meizu 16s Pro has 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage with a price tag of ¥3699 (~$524). There is also a 12GB RAM + 256GB version but the price is unknown.

We don’t know the processor under the hood but it is either the Snapdragon 855 or the Snapdragon 855 Plus processor.

Meizu has an announcement tomorrow. There are speculations it is for the Flyme 8, the latest version of its custom UI for its phones. However, we haven’t seen any post teasing the launch of a new phone, so the possibility that tomorrow’s event is for the Meizu 16s Pro is slim.

Later, it was revealed that the Meizu smartphone with model number M973Q could be the upgraded version of the Meizu 16s, dubbed Meizu 16s Pro.

Now, an alleged render of the upcoming Meizu 16s Pro has leaked online, showcasing the smartphone’s design. It shows that the phone will come with a curved display and will feature three camera sensors on the back aligned vertically in the top-left corner. It will also come with an in-display fingerprint sensor.

The same smartphone also appeared on 3C listing recently without revealing any of the specifications. However, it reveals that the smartphone could be accompanied by a charger that supports up to 24W fast charging. The Meizu 16s, which was launched in April this year, also carries support for 24W rapid charging.

Last month, Chinese retailer site Taobao had listed the unannounced Meizu 16s Pro smartphone with an image that resembled with the design of the Meizu 16s phone. The same listing revealed that it will come with a Sony IMX586 48-megapixel primary lens and a 20-megapixel telephoto lens. A ring-like LED flash is also present below the triple camera unit.

With more and more leaks coming in, the launch of the Meizu 16s Pro should not be far away. Recently, Meizu’s Founder, Chairman, and CEO also revealed on the company’s forum that a new product will soon be launched in the market. Currently, there’s no information available about the Meizu 16s Pro smartphone.

As for the camera, the phone has dual rear cameras where the primary sensor is a 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor with an f/1.7 aperture and 4-axis OIS. There’s a 20MP Sony IMX350 secondary sensor with an f/2.6 aperture.

It will be an advanced version of the Meizu 16s phone that was made official in April and it will be also arriving to replace the Meizu 16 Plus smartphone from last year. Recently, the Meizu M973Q phone was spotted at the database of National Radio Authority in China. The Meizu 16s has a model number of M971Q. Hence, it is believed that the newly spotted M973Q could be the Meizu 16s Pro. The same model number has appeared on the database of 3C authority of China.

The 3C listing of the Meizu M973Q has no information on its specifications. However, it reveals that the smartphone could be accompanied by a charger that supports up to 24W fast charging.
At the beginning of July, Chinese retailer site Taobao had carried a listing of the unannounced Meizu 16s Pro smartphone. The listing had carried an image of the smartphone which resembled with the design of the Meizu 16s phone. Its front is fitted with a notch-less display that is surrounded by slim bezels. The very thin bezel at the top features a front-facing camera.

The Meizu 16s Pro’s image on Taobao had revealed that is equipped with a vertical triple camera unit. The Meizu 16s has a Sony IMX586 48-megapixel primary lens and a 20-megapixel telephoto lens in its dual camera setup. Probably, the Meizu 16s Pro may feature the same camera sensors that are available on the 16s handset as well as an additional ultrawide flash. A ring-like LED flash is also present below the triple camera unit. The image also suggests that the phone could be equipped with an in-screen fingerprint scanner.

The Meizu 16s Pro could be a more powerful device than the Meizu 16s. Hence, it could be fueled by the Snapdragon 855+ chipset. Probably, the company may announce the smartphone by the end of this month. As of this writing, there is no official confirmation yet form Meizu on the existence of the handset.

Now, the National Radio Authority in China has confirmed that the M973Q model has received certification for the entire network on 31st July.

Now, it is being believed that the Meizu smartphone with model number M973Q could be the upgraded version of the Meizu 16s, dubbed Meizu 16s Pro given that the 16s carries model number M971Q.

The certification for the device indicates that the launch of the Meizu 16s Pro should take place in the near future. Recently, Meizu’s Founder, Chairman, and CEO also revealed on the company’s forum that a new product will soon be launched in the market. Currently, there’s no information available about the Meizu 16s Pro smartphone.

Meizu 16s was launched in April this year featuring a 6.2-inch Super AMOLED display which uses a COF bonding technique and has curved corners allows for a screen-to-body ratio of 91.53%. The display has a VDE Blue-light certified protection which blocks up to 33% of harmful blue light and also supports DC dimming.

It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, coupled with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of UFS 2.1 storage. As for the camera, the phone has dual rear cameras where the primary sensor is a 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor with an f/1.7 aperture and 4-axis OIS. There’s a 20MP Sony IMX350 secondary sensor with an f/2.6 aperture.

There are a bunch of camera features such as Dual Super Night Scene, Portrait Bokeh Mode, and AI scene recognition. On the front side, it comes with a 20MP Samsung 3T2 selfie camera which launched this year features the world’s smallest front-facing lens. The Meizu 16s is actually the first phone in the world to use the sensor.

It also comes with Hyper Gaming technology for smooth and lag-free mobile gaming. There is also mEngine 3.0 which provides an immersive gaming experience when playing games like BuildTopia. Running on Android 9 Pie OS with its own custom user interface, the smartphone is powered by a 3,600mAh battery.

It keeps the bezels but manages to keep them really slim while still fitting in a camera and an earpiece. Unlike its predecessor, the Meizu 16s doesn’t have a Plus variant. However, new reports have revealed we may be getting a Meizu 16s Pro as early as next month.

Listings of the Meizu 16s Pro are said to have been seen on Taobao, one of China’s biggest online stores. The listing even includes a photo of the unreleased device.

The Meizu 16s Pro will mostly keep the design of the Meizu 16s but it will add an extra camera on the back for a triple camera setup. We speculate the third camera may be an ultra-wide angle lens. The cameras are lined up vertically on the left side of the phone with the ring-style LED flash sitting below.

There is no fingerprint scanner on the rear which means Meizu is sticking to an in-display fingerprint sensor again. Unfortunately, the specs were not listed save for the processor which is the Snapdragon 855.

The listing says pre-order began on July 3 ahead of the device’s release in August. More details are expected to surface in the coming weeks leading to its release if the device’s existence is confirmed.
