Meizu has officially announced the return of its most celebrated color, “Moon White Sky Blue”, with the Meizu 22. This new variant features a smooth ceramic-finish back cover inspired by the elegance of traditional Chinese celadon craftsmanship.

The design integrates a 0.8mm symmetrical “pure white” flat panel and a 6.3-inch frame that offers a refined and balanced in-hand experience.

According to Meizu, the new color variant symbolizes the brand’s commitment to combining modern design with oriental aesthetics. The new variant has a starting price of 2,999 Yuan (~$420) and will go on sale in China starting Oct. 30.

Alongside this, Meizu also introduced a special “Return Voyage: China Flagship Edition”, developed in collaboration with the China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s 714 Research Institute. This edition features design motifs inspired by naval vessels and aircraft, along with a customised UI and collectible accessories.

The Meizu 22 is powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 processor and features a 6.3-inch 1.5K display with adaptive 1–120Hz refresh rate. It includes a triple 50-megapixel rear camera setup covering wide, telephoto, and ultra-wide lenses, as well as a 50-megapixel front camera.

The phone packs a 5,510mAh battery with 80W wired and 66W wireless charging support. Other highlights include ultrasonic fingerprint scanning, an X-axis linear motor, an IR blaster, and IP66/68-rated dust and water resistance.

It weighs 190 grams and is 8.15mm thick, featuring a 2.5D micro-arc front and a slim 1.2mm four-sided bezel. The company describes the body as a 50:50 balanced design, meant to feel symmetrical in the hand. There’s also an independent AI button, which Meizu says can launch over 20 different shortcut actions with a single press.

Meizu 22 Specifications

On the front, the Meizu 22 is equipped with a 6.3-inch display at 1.5K resolution. It supports a 1–120Hz adaptive refresh rate, peak brightness up to 6000 nits, and covers the full DCI-P3 color gamut. 

The panel integrates “RuRan Eye Protection Technology,” which combines hardware-level low blue light and DC dimming for reduced eye strain. The design includes a micro-arc 2.5D front glass and a narrow 1.2mm border on all sides.

The phone has four cameras in total, three on the back and one on the front. It includes:

• 50MP wide-angle (OV50H, 1/1.3-inch sensor, f/1.68, OIS)
• 50MP 3x periscope telephoto (Sony IMX882, OIS, 15cm tele-macro)

Under the hood, the Meizu 22 runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chip, cooled by a 4500mm² VC liquid cooling system. Powering it all is a 5,500mAh battery, with 80W wired charging and 66W wireless charging.

The software experience is driven by Flyme AIOS 2, which brings AI features like AI drawing, AI filters, pedestrian removal, glare reduction, and moiré removal. Small Window Mode 5.0, Game Assistant, and Smart Travel are also baked in.

For car owners, Flyme Auto 2 provides deeper integration with Meizu’s ecosystem, while Flyme Link handles device-to-car connectivity.

Furthermore, the Meizu 22 comes with a linear vibration motor, infrared remote functions, UWB digital key support, and IP66/IP68 water and dust resistance. However, not all models are equal in connectivity. Only the top-tier 16GB + 1TB variant supports UWB, USB 3.2, and DisplayPort 1.2 output. All other versions are limited to USB 2.0 speeds (480Mbps), which is a notable downgrade compared to many rivals in this price range.

The phone also uses a multi-antenna system, including quad-antenna MIMO technology, to improve network performance.

Limited Edition details

The Meizu 22 is also available in a Homecoming: China Flagship Limited Edition. It ships with a custom UI inspired by aircraft carrier themes, a back cover with fleet-style patterns, and additional accessories. Buyers also receive a customized power adapter, SIM ejector tool, and metal plaques featuring the Fujian aircraft carrier and the J35 fighter jet.

According to the tipster, the Meizu 22 will instead run on the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. The chip is built on TSMC’s 4nm process and uses a “1+7” setup, with a single high-performance Cortex-X4 core alongside seven Cortex-A720 cores at varying clock speeds. Graphics are handled by the Adreno 825 GPU.

The same leak also reiterates that the phone will feature a LIPO OLED display with a slim 1.2mm bezel. The panel itself measures 6.3 inches, which is slightly smaller than the 6.55-inch screen on the Meizu 21.

On the camera front, Meizu is equipping the phone with a 72mm 3x periscope telephoto lens, backed by what the company describes as improved image processing. According to the tipster, the Meizu 22 will feature a single-cell battery rated at 5,370mAh, with a typical capacity of around 5,500mAh. The device is expected to sport an OLED panel with symmetrical 1.22mm bezels on all four sides, achieved using LIPO technology, while maintaining a compact 71mm body width for comfortable single-handed use. The brand has already confirmed that the device will debut with a unique white front panel.

Meizu unveiled the Meizu 21 with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip in November 2023. It was followed up with the Meizu 21 Pro, powered by the same chip, in February 2024. It is likely that the Meizu 22 lineup may include two models, such as the Meizu 22 and 22 Pro.

While the Meizu 22 was expected to launch in November 2024, the company did not unveil it. A report that surfaced in December revealed that the Meizu 22 series will launch this year with the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip onboard.

There’s a possibility that the Meizu 22 could be a compact phone with a small display, whereas the Pro edition may sport a larger display. Additionally, the front panel is set to maintain the brand’s classic white bezels. Now that the brand has reportedly teased the Meizu 22, it is likely that the 22 lineup may go official in the second quarter of this year in China.

The standard version could be priced around 4,000 Yuan (~$550), whereas the Pro model may cost around 5,000 Yuan (~$690). The phones are expected to introduce satellite communication and AI-driven enhancements, further improving user experience.

In a surprising turn of events, Meizu, once a prominent name in the smartphone industry, is gearing up to re-enter the market with its highly anticipated Meizu 22 series. This news comes after a period of uncertainty, with the company previously hinting at discontinuing traditional smartphone production.

Earlier this year, tipster Digital Chat Station had mentioned that Meizu was working on the Meizu 22 series, though details were scarce apart from an expected launch timeline.

Now, popular tipster Smart Pikachu has revealed that the Meizu 22 series will likely be powered by Qualcomm‘s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. The devices are also expected to feature a white panel design, reminiscent of their predecessors.

The tipster also says that the company is planning to launch two distinct models within the series: one with a compact screen for those who prefer a more manageable device size, and another with a larger flat screen.

Both models are expected to feature enhanced in-car connectivity powered by Flyme Auto, reflecting Meizu’s strategic ‘All In AI’ approach aimed at integrating artificial intelligence more deeply into the user experience. Additionally, Meizu is testing an AI button, which could be incorporated into the device to introduce innovative interactions and functionalities.

While Meizu has traditionally excelled in design and performance, the company has faced criticism for its camera capabilities. To address this, Meizu is reportedly exploring advanced imaging technologies and software optimizations to elevate the photography experience.

The display is another crucial aspect of the Meizu 22 series. Rumors suggest that the lineup will feature high-quality Chinese OLED panels, with the standard model offering a 1.5K resolution and the Pro version boasting a 2K resolution.

The devices are expected to feature domestically produced ultrasonic fingerprint sensors, and the company is reportedly testing high-density batteries, potentially offering capacities exceeding 5500mAh.

To recall, Meizu launched its Meizu 21 series in 2023, followed by additional models in 2024, including the Meizu 21 Pro in February and the Meizu 21 Note in May. The Meizu 21 Pro boasts a 6.79″ 2K+ 120Hz LTPO AMOLED display, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, 50MP triple cameras, a 5050mAh battery with 80W wired and 50W wireless charging, IP68 certification, and up to 16GB RAM with 1TB storage.

In September 2024, Meizu also released the Note 21 series and the Lucky 08. The Meizu 22 series is anticipated to launch sometime in 2025.
