ChatGPT (by OpenAI)

OpenAI continues to lead the market with ChatGPT. The free plan gives users access to GPT-5 with usage limits, enough for simple queries and casual use.

The ChatGPT Plus plan costs $20 per month globally or ₹1,999 in India. It unlocks unlimited use of GPT-5 and GPT-4o, advanced tools such as web browsing, data analysis, and image generation, as well as custom GPT creation. Plus subscribers also receive early access to new features.

The ChatGPT Pro tier, priced at about $200 per month or ₹19,900 in India, is aimed at heavier workloads. It increases usage capacity, adds customization, and provides enterprise-grade security.

OpenAI also introduced ChatGPT Go in select regions like India at ₹399 per month. It delivers GPT-5 access with higher limits than the free tier but does not include advanced features such as Sora video generation.

At the enterprise level, ChatGPT Enterprise offers unlimited GPT-5 and GPT-4o access with no usage caps, extended context windows, SOC 2-compliant security, and admin tools. Pricing is custom-based on business needs.

Gemini (by Google)

Google’s Gemini is closely tied to its ecosystem. The free tier allows access to Gemini 2.5 Flash and Gemini 2.5 Pro for basic conversations.

The main paid plan is Gemini Advanced, part of the Google One AI Premium subscription priced at $19.99 per month. This plan includes 2TB of cloud storage and unlocks Gemini 2.5 Pro with higher limits, a 1 million–token context window, file analysis features, and video generation powered by Veo 3.

Developers can use its API with extremely low pricing. The deepseek-chat model costs $0.27 per 1M input tokens and $1.10 per 1M output tokens, making it one of the most affordable large-scale AI solutions.

The news comes courtesy of the Windows enthusiast @PhantomOfEarth. If you’re running the latest version of the Photos app (version number 2024.11030.22001.0), you might find a new option in the plug-in settings – a toggle for Copilot.

Not all Windows users may have access to the new version of the Photos app yet

But what can Copilot do for you right now? For the time being, its functionalities are a bit limited. It can help you craft slideshows. Users can effortlessly create and browse photo slideshows directly within the Photos app and relive their memories. Users can set any photo as a desktop background in a breeze.

While these might seem like basic features initially, Copilot’s potential for growth is exciting. It’s important to note that not all Windows users may have access to this new version of the Photos app just yet.

Microsoft has been steadily adding AI muscle to the Photos app. Back in November 2023, Windows Insiders gained access to some impressive AI-powered features. Microsoft reveals standards for AI PCs; 8GB RAM won’t cut it

Earlier this month at CES, major laptop and PC OEMs unveiled their new line of machines that will soon launch in the market. A majority of these were laptops boasting the latest AMD or Intel chip, claiming to have AI features onboard. Before these laptops hit the market, Microsoft revealed the guidelines of what qualifies as an AI laptop.

According to TrendForce, Microsoft now says that laptops with AI features should have at least 16 GB of RAM. This move is expected to make people want more DRAM and make devices with 8 GB RAM less popular.

This is part of a wider trend where AI applications are getting closer to where we use our devices, not just on big servers. The global market for AI servers is supposed to grow a lot, with more than 1.6 million units, and a 40% growth rate.

For these AI PCs, they need to do at least 40 trillion operations per second (TOPS) to be good enough. This has started a big competition between companies that make computer chips. Right now, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite is the only chip that does 45 TOPS, meeting the requirement. Intel’s Meteor Lake and AMD’s Ryzen 8040 are a bit short, but the new AMD Ryzen 8050 and Intel’s Lunar Lake, which will be launching by the second half of 2024 should be good enough.

Because Qualcomm followed the rules early, it’s in a good position to sell its products. The first “Windows AI Ultrabooks” will use the Snapdragon X Elite, and big companies like Dell, Lenovo, and HP are planning to make products with Qualcomm’s technology. This is a problem for Intel and AMD, who usually have a strong position in the PC market.

Microsoft’s rules will also affect the kind of memory technology we use. We’ll start using LPDDR5x instead of the current DDR SO-DIMM modules because it can send data faster, which is important for AI. TrendForce thinks that about 30-35% of the demand for PC DRAM will be for LPDDR, and this will go up as AI PC requirements get more demanding.

Microsoft Copilot, in collaboration with AI-based music creation platform Suno, has unveiled a feature that allows users with no formal music creation background to generate personalized songs with just a text prompt. Suno, known for its AI algorithms in music composition, has teamed up with Microsoft Copilot to deliver a user-friendly tool for crafting songs effortlessly. The audio clips demonstrated on the official Suno website sounded impressive, but there’s a catch in the implementation in Copilot.

The feature has begun its rollout, with a tiered release, meaning users may need to wait a few weeks before it becomes available in their updates.

However, it’s worth noting that the new music generation feature is currently limited to the Microsoft Edge browser. To utilize the tool, users must open Edge, visit the Copilot website, log in, and ensure the Suno plugin is active under the “Plugins” tab in the top right corner. After entering a text description into Copilot, users patiently await the AI to complete the song generation.

Initial experiences with the new feature have shown promise, with Copilot generating lyrics for a popular song within about 10 minutes. However, there have been reported difficulties in generating the accompanying music. Instances have encountered, where the link to the generated song disappears immediately, leaving them with lyrics but no music. Copilot then suggested imagining the melody or humming the lyrics. Although, we are not sure if was due to any specific issue for that test or if it repeats.

The Suno add-on is gradually rolling out and will reach all users in the coming weeks. The potential extension of this feature to other browsers remains uncertain, and further updates will be monitored closely.
