Microsoft, in a recent announcement, reiterated that the monthly active users of its collaboration platform, Microsoft Teams, have surpassed an impressive 320 million. Additionally, the Teams app store now boasts more than 2,000 applications, empowering enterprises to create over 145,000 custom line-of-business (LOB) applications.

Microsoft Teams achieves record user base and unveils performance revolution with Copilot integration

This announcement builds on the information shared in October, where Microsoft initially disclosed the milestone of 320 million monthly active users for Teams. The latest press release provides a broader overview of the app’s ecosystem and its impact on businesses.

In a bid to enhance user experience and productivity, Microsoft integrated ChatGPT into Teams earlier this year. This integration allows enterprise users to leverage Teams to call Copilot through plug-ins, streamlining various tasks.

October also witnessed the introduction of the new Teams version for Windows and macOS. Notably, the macOS version transitioned from the resource-intensive Electron framework to Microsoft’s WebView2 technology, promising significant performance improvements. Users can now enjoy 3x faster installation, 2x faster startup times, 1.7x faster switching between chats and channels, and a 2x faster meeting join experience. Furthermore, Microsoft has reduced memory resource usage by 50% and disk space by 70%.

Beyond performance enhancements, the new Teams version introduces streamlined operational logic, minimizing clutter in notifications and messages. Microsoft’s continuous efforts to refine and optimize Teams underscore its commitment to providing a seamless and efficient collaborative environment for users worldwide.
