Motorola is known for offering reliable, budget-friendly, and premium smartphones with near-stock Android experiences. However, like many brands using OLED and AMOLED displays, some Motorola users have reported encountering the dreaded green line issue where a vertical green line appears on the screen (even without physical damage).

The green line problem is commonly linked to display degradation, software updates, or screen hardware failures, affecting multiple smartphone brands, including Samsung and OnePlus. So now, here’s a list of Motorola phones that have been reported to experience the same problem.

Moto Edge 30 Series

Among the various models that are plagued Motorola’s smartphones, the Edge 30 series is one of the earliest models from the Edge family to have this issue. Due to various reports of green lines surfacing on Edge 30, Edge 30 Fusion, and Edge 30 Ultra, the company faced backlash in Asian markets like India. This was incredibly frustrating for buyers of the Edge 30 Ultra, which was a flagship device with a premium price tag.

Moto Edge 40 Series

After the entire green line fiasco surrounding the Edge 30 series, Motorola had seemingly prevented this issue on the premium Edge 40 Pro. But the Edge 40 and Edge 40 Neo weren’t so lucky. Around a year after their release, these devices started being affected by those frustrating green lines. Affected users were left disappointed as these issues typically surfaced right after their Motorola phones went out of warranty.

Moto G82 & Moto G52

Last but not least we had some Motorola G series smartphones from 2022. This includes the Moto G52 and Moto G82. Unlike the Edge 40, some buyers faced green line issues on the Moto G82 within 24 hours of making their purchase. So it was evident that there was no physical damage. Owners of the Moto G52 also shared images on social media of their devices with multiple green lines on the display.

It sports a 6.55 inch pOLED display that has a FHD+ resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, the device is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ SoC and it runs on Android 12 OS out of the box.

The rear packs a triple camera setup with a 50 megapixel primary and another 50 megapixel ultra wide angle lens, along with a 2 megapixel depth sensor. After launching the Motorola Edge 30 in Europe in late April and in India last week, the Motorola Edge 30 has finally arrived at Malaysian shores as the cheapest smartphone in the Malaysian market that you can buy with Qualcomm’s 5G-enabled Snapdragon 778G Plus at only RM1,399 (318 USD) on its first pre-order sale.

The Snapdragon 778G Plus SoC powering the Motorola Edge 30 is an overclocked version of last year’s popular Snapdragon 778G 5G chipset found on more premium mid-rangers like the Honor 50, Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE and the Samsung Galaxy A52s 5G. Although not as powerful as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 found on the Motorola Edge 30 Pro, the Snapdragon 778G Plus still packs quite a punch and it is much more power-efficient than its flagship counterpart.

Another feature of the Motorola Edge 30 is the design. Motorola has claimed the device to be the thinnest 5G phone yet in the market with a thickness of just 6.79mm(excluding the camera bump), which beats the previous record owner, the Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE which was 6.81mm in thickness. The device also weighs very light at 155g housed within the brand’s matte polycarbonate build.

As for the front, the Motorola Edge 30 is built around a 6.5-inch centered punch-hole 10-bit flat pOLED display. The panel has a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels (FHD+) and up to a 144Hz refresh rate. The screen supports the DCI-P3 colour gamut and HDR10+ content playback.

The 4,020mAh battery within the Motorola Edge 30 is relatively small by 2022 standards but the device does have support for 33W fast charging to top up the battery in no time.

On the rear, the handset sports a triple camera system comprising a 50MP primary sensor with OIS, another 50MP sensor with a 118° ultra-wide-angle lens and autofocus support for macro shots, and a 2MP depth sensor. For selfies and video calls, it uses a 32MP shooter located inside the punch hole.

The connectivity options on the phone include dual-SIM card slots, sub-6GHz 5G, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, GNSS, NFC and USB Type-C. Unfortunately, it neither has a 3.5mm headphone jack nor comes with a MicroSD card slot.

The Motorola Edge 30 comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage and comes in only Meteor Grey colour for the Malaysian market. The device’s official retail price in Malaysia is RM1,599 (364 USD), but Motorola Malaysia is holding a pre-order promotion period from 11th to 16th May 2022, where the device is offered for only RM1,399 (USD 318) with the ongoing RM200 cash rebate promo from the company.

Motorola‘s 2022 roadmap was leaked last month revealing 19 devices that the company has planned to launch this year. Out of those, the company has already released models like the Moto G22 and the G52. Now, 91mobiles in collaboration with popular tipster Evan Blass has unveiled “Official” images of the upcoming Motorola Edge 30 smartphone.

The Motorola Edge 30 with the codename Dubai, is the little sibling of the already launched Moto Edge 30 Pro which is reflected in its design. The device has curved edges, with the power button and volume rocker on the right side. The back has a triple camera module with lenses protruding from the pill-shaped camera island.

On the front, we get evenly slim bezels all around the display. The display panel also has a centered punch hole for the front camera.

Motorola Edge 30 specifications (rumored)

The Edge 30 will feature a 6.55-inch P-OLED panel that will produce a Full HD+ resolution and a 144hz refresh rate. The smartphone is tipped to come powered with the Snapdragon 778G Plus chipset paired with  6 GB / 8 GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 128 GB / 256 GB of storage. The device will draw power from a 4,020mAh battery that will carry support for 33W fast charging.

In terms of optics, the Moto Edge 30 may include a 50-megapixel main camera, a 50-megapixel ultrawide lens, and a 2-megapixel depth assist lens. The device will run on the Android 12 OS, which will be overlaid with MYUX.

According to Even Blass, the device will likely launch globally before the end of August.

Motorola is apparently gearing up to launch a number of new products. The Lenovo owned brand will be launching new smartphones under its Moto E, G, and Edge series. These new models have been spotted on various certification websites recently, which hints at their imminent launch.

According to a MySmartPrice report, the Motorola E32 was spotted recently on multiple certification websites, and now, additional new models have also surfaced on these websites. Apart from the E32, the company is also gearing up to launch the Edge 30, G52, and the Lenovo K15 as well, which were spotted on the TDRA, FCC, Wi-Fi Alliance, and EUT certification websites.

The Motorola Edge 30 features the model number XT2203-1, while the Moto G52 comes with model number XT2221-1, the E32 has the XT2227-3 model number, and the Lenovo K15 has the model number XT2227-4. For those unaware, the vanilla Motorola Edge 30 will be the successor to last year’s Edge 20. Similarly, the Moto G52 will succeed the Moto G51 from 2021, meanwhile, the Lenovo K15 is likely a rebranded version of the E32 for China.

Furthermore, the Motorola Edge 30 and Moto G52 were also spotted on Wi-Fi Alliance and the database reveals that both smartphones will come with dual band Wi-Fi support and run on Android 12 out of the box. Notably, the edge 30, G52, and E32 were even spotted on the EEC. The E32 is expected to come with Android 11 out of the box. The Moto G52 was spotted on the FCC certification database and EUT database and will apparently launch in 4G and 5G variants.

Lenovo was the first phone manufacturer to ship Qualcomm’s latest and greatest, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset on its flagship Motorola Edge X30 back in December 2021. The phone was not the best in its segment, considering the alternative offerings from other competitors such as Xiaomi, Realme and Huawei. But considering its relative starting price of around 600 USD, the Motorola flagship was great for those who did not have much stretch on their budget.

Just when we thought that the standard Motorola Edge X30 would be the only flagship from Lenovo in 2022, a new listing on 3C Certification states that a new Motorola smartphone has been certified for electronics safety and it may be a new member in the Motorola Edge X30 family.

The news comes from ITHome, where they have spotted that 3C Certification recently listed a Motorola smartphone bearing the model number XT2201-6. From the listing, the Motorola XT2201-6 is stated to support 68W fast wired charging, which is currently exclusively available on the Motorola Edge X30. 

Another indicator that the Motorola XT2201-6 may be a new member of the Motorola Edge X30 lineup is its model number. The Motorola Edge X30 was launched in December 2021, but leaks started pouring out as early as early November 2021 with the model number XT2201-2. Considering that both the model numbers share the same XT2201 code, it may seem that the Motorola XT2201-6 may be a Motorola Edge X30 Ultra.

Although there has not been any other leaks or rumours directly regarding the Motorola Edge X30 Ultra, there have been a lot of leaks recently regarding the Motorola Frontier, Motorola’s next flagship which could bear the market name of Motorola Edge X30 Ultra.

An earlier leak by Evan Blass showed off renders of the Motorola Frontier, which is Motorola’s entry into the ultra-premium smartphone space. The leaked image shows the Motorola Frontier from all angles in a lustrous, metallic grey finish on the back. And the front display features very narrow bezels on all sides, with exaggerated curves on both the left and right sides of the phone to provide more screen real estate for the user.

As for the rear triple camera setup, it houses a major camera island equipped with a rumoured 194-megapixels sensor, which is expected to be the ‘S5KHP1’ sensor manufactured by Samsung. As for the other 2 cameras at the bottom, it is rumoured to be the 50-megapixel Samsung SKJN1SQ03 ultrawide sensor and the 12-megapixel Sony IMX663 telephoto camera for zoom shots.

Back in December 2021, Lenovo was the first phone manufacturer to ship Qualcomm’s latest and greatest, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset on its flagship Moto Edge X30. However, camera performance for the device was quite average compared to the competition (our Edge X30 review here), but Lenovo is looking to improve the phone’s camera performance in its next update.

The news came from Lenovo’s Senior Product Manager in China, Chen Jin. Chen, under his Weibo username “Amazing Bro”, confirmed that the Moto Edge X30 will be receiving a major software update by Lenovo before the Lunar New Year(February 1, 2022), hinting that the update will be available to users before January ends.

As for the features that the upcoming major software update will bring, Chen mentions that the Moto Edge X30 will sport improved camera software than the current camera software on the Moto Edge X30 and the video recording on the new camera software is described as jaw-dropping. Chen also shared that the new update will include support for video recordings in higher fps, allowing for smoother movements in videos.

As for security improvements, Chen emphasizes that the Moto Edge X30 will now have a new “Privacy Space” mode after the major update. Chen did not mention the highlights of this new mode, but the mode may work similar to Xiaomi’s Second Space, where the phone allows you to use 2 totally different spaces on your phone — one for work and one for leisure purposes with games, social media, and video-sharing platforms.

In the post, Chen also brings his regret that the software team was not able to develop a solution for a more stock Android-like notification center and notification shade, because Lenovo wanted to release the major update before the Lunar New Year. The update will roll out to Moto Edge X30 devices in China by the end of January 2022.
