Android 16 rollout hasn’t been quick from Motorola (it’s still rolling out), but the Android 17 beta expansion from the brand is turning heads. The company has already announced the Android 17 beta program for many devices, and now a fresh set of devices has joined the party.

Motorola was the first third-party manufacturer to announce the Android 17 beta program for its devices, just a week after Google released the first Android 17 beta. The beta program has largely remained limited to mid-range Motorola phones, but the latest batch also includes some high-end models, such as the Razr 60 Ultra and Motorola Signature.

How to sign up for Motorola’s Android 17 beta program?

Note that beta builds may contain bugs and broken features. Therefore, it’s advised not to install them on a primary device. 

Here are the steps to follow:

1. Create an account on Motorola’s community website (if you haven’t already).
2. Visit the profile page and update your IMEI or serial number (SN) details.
3. Opt in for MFN on your Motorola community profile.
4. Always ensure that your phone is running the latest software.
5. Go to the MFN Beta Testing Opportunities page to see a testing opportunity for your Motorola device.
6. Tap on the registration link for your Motorola phone.
7. Fill in the required details and submit your application.

Please keep in mind that Motorola may send emails regarding your beta application. So, remember to check your inbox regularly, including the spam folder.

Once your beta application is approved, you’ll receive an OTA update. It’s best to manually check for updates every few days by navigating to Settings > System updates > Check for updates.

As of writing this post, Google has released three public betas of Android 17, with more to arrive in the coming weeks. The latest OS already has reached the platform stability phase and the stable version is expected to arrive for Google Pixels in June 2026. Other brands, including Motorola, will take a few more weeks to make final changes and could start rolling it out in Q3 2026.

The Android 16 update is finally rolling out to Motorola’s most premium smartphones, Razr 2025 and Razr Ultra 2025, in the US, just as Google has released the first Android 17 beta. Both Razr phones entered Android 16 beta testing about half a year ago, and now, after a long wait, the stable update is finally here.

The Android 16 update for 2025’s Razr smartphones is currently available on T-Mobile and Verizon carriers in the US, as spotted by Ytechb. For the Razr 2025, the update arrives with the firmware version W1UC36H.96-35-1, whereas the Razr Ultra 2025 users can identify the update by the firmware version W1VL36H.59-55-5.

This is the first major OS update for the Razr 2025 and Razr Ultra 2025, which has a massive download size of about 4GB. It’s best to download such large packages over Wi-Fi and make sure the battery is at least 40% charged for a smooth upgrade to Android 16.

While it’s a major OS upgrade, don’t expect major visual changes or groundbreaking features. That said, there are still some useful upgrades and new features that further improve the software experience. It introduces a new notification cooldown feature that prevents you from getting annoyed when an app sends too many notifications from the same app within a short time. It does so by reducing the volume of incoming notifications for that particular app.

Android 16 lets you create custom models based on your needs, in addition to the existing modes, including Do Not Disturb, Bedtime, and Driving. You can also connect to a hotspot of a different device without entering the password, provided that both devices are logged in to the same Google account. The update also brings improvements to hearing aids, protection from malicious apps, and performance upgrades.

While Motorola is busy rolling out the Android 16 update, Google has already started developing Android 17. In fact, the first beta has been out for a few days now, with more to arrive in the coming weeks and months. The stable build could arrive around June or July 2026. Samsung brought a new contender in the premium flip phone segment with the new Galaxy Z Flip 7. It competes with Motorola’s flagship Razr Ultra 2025 (Geekwills), which also packs high-end specs. But which one of these foldables is worth your money? Read on for a quick comparison.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 vs Moto Razr Ultra 2025: Design & Display

The South Korean tech giant is a veteran in the foldable phone market and has refined the Galaxy Z Flip 7 with upgrades in its cover display and hinge mechanism. While the Galaxy Z Flip 6 was still behind some of its competition, the latest Z Flip 7’s new 4.1-inch FlexWindow is a notable upgrade. Now, Samsung’s flip finally matches the latest Razr phones in the cover display area. Furthermore, the main screen has gotten taller this year, making the experience nearly equal on both models.

However, Motorola still has a slight edge thanks to its faster 165Hz refresh rate on both panels and LTPO 1-165Hz variable refresh on the external display. In comparison, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 7 only offers a 60Hz or 120Hz refresh rate on the secondary screen. Even in the design department, both device are quite similar. Although, the new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 is slimmer and thinner.

It measures 6.9mm when unfolded and 14.9mm when folded, with a weight of 188 grams. The Motorola Razr Ultra 2025, on the other hand, has a chunkier 7.29mm chassis when unfolded, which goes up to 15.69mm when folded. The body also weighs slightly heavier at 189 grams. So you can expect the Z Flip 7 to be easier to hold on to. However, considering the fact that the Razr Ultra 2025 features a vegan leather finish (glass on the Flip 7), the overall hand feel might be better on Motorola’s flip phone. So the design you like is based on your personal preference.

Performance

One of the ways Samsung avoided hiking the Galaxy Z Flip 7’s price was the shift to its in-house Exynos 2500 SoC. This is a 3nm chip that brings various improvements in performance and power efficiency. But the Snapdragon 8 Elite that powers the Razr Ultra 2025 is still one of the fastest chips on the market.

Samsung did make improvements with the Exynos 2500, but the 8 Elite is better for gaming and is also slightly more power efficient. Thanks to better thermals on the new Exynos chip, you won’t miss out on anything by going with the Galaxy Z Flip 7. Nevertheless, the Snapdragon 8 Elite has proven to be a great chip for everyday use and intensive tasks.

Battery & Charging

With the Galaxy Z Flip 7, the battery capacity got a bump from 4,000mAh from its predecessor to 4,300mAh. Unfortunately, the fast charging rate is still stuck at 25W wired and 15W wireless. So Motorola easily gets the win here thanks to its larger 4,700mAh battery. Even the wired and wireless charging is faster with 68W and 30W, respectively.

Camera

While both models have a dual camera setup on the rear, Motorola packs a 50MP (main, f/1.8, OIS) + 50MP (Ultrawide, f/2.0) on the back and a 50MP selfie shooter (f/2.2). In comparison, the Z Flip 7’s rear cameras include a 50MP (main, f/1.8, OIS) + 12MP (Ultrawide, f/2.2), with the front housing a 10MP camera for selfies. The main cameras are basically on par, but the ultra wide and selfie shooters’ better apertures and higher resolutions should translate to better picture quality (at least on paper).

Pricing & Verdict

Samsung just announced the Galaxy Z Flip 7 for a starting price tag of 1,099 US Dollars for the 256GB variant and 1,219 US Dollars for the 512GB option. This makes it more affordable than the Moto Razr Ultra 2025, which starts from 1,299 US Dollars for the 512GB option. As of right now, a limited time deal brings the 1TB variant of the Razr for 1,299 US Dollars as well (1,499 US Dollars original price) and there is even some freebies like a free smartwatch with the phone. So the Razr also brings great value.

In conclusion, the Razr Ultra 2025 is still slightly more expensive, offers a better camera setup, a larger battery, faster charging, and better performance. However, the Z Flip 7 is still capable in most of these regards, along with a better software experience with One UI. It also has strong cross platform connectivity, and Samsung has even included DeX as well (first time on any Z series phone). Unless you need the best performance, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is a great option for your next flip phone purchase.

Vivo S30 Pro Mini

Motorola introduced the Razr Ultra 2025 as its most advanced foldable yet. The phone features a 6.9-inch internal pOLED display with a 165Hz refresh rate and a large 4.0-inch outer display that also runs at 165Hz. Both screens are bright, smooth, and usable for full apps.

It uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and comes with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage. Motorola includes a 50MP main and 50MP ultra-wide camera on the rear, while the inner display has a 50MP under-display selfie camera. The camera system supports advanced video features and offers hands-free shooting when the phone is partially folded.

The Razr Ultra houses a 4700mAh battery and supports fast charging. Motorola includes AI features through a dedicated side button and supports Ready For wireless desktop mode. The phone is priced around $1099 in Europe and is available in select regions.

Xiaomi Mix Flip

Xiaomi launched the Mix Flip as its first flip-style foldable. The main display measures 6.86 inches with a resolution of 2912×1224 and 120Hz refresh. The outer screen is a 4.01-inch near-square OLED that also supports 120Hz.

It is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip and comes with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage. Xiaomi’s unique camera setup includes a 50MP main sensor and a 50MP telephoto lens, omitting an ultra-wide lens. The front camera is a 32MP sensor located on the inner display.

The Mix Flip includes a 4780mAh battery with 67W wired fast charging. Wireless charging is not supported. The phone runs HyperOS and is priced around £1099 in the UK.

Motorola is seemingly preparing to launch a follow-up to its Razr 50 Ultra foldable smartphone. It has already appeared on multiple certification sites, and now a Geekbench listing may have shed some light on what to expect from the device.

The first interesting detail is the name itself. The benchmark reveals that the foldable will be called the Motorola Razr Ultra 2025 — a surprising departure from Motorola’s usual naming conventions.

Previously, the foldable lineup followed a more predictable pattern. The global variant is expected to launch as the Razr Ultra, while the same device gets branded as the Razr+ in North America, paired with the launch year. 

Following that logic, this should have been the Razr 60 Ultra for the global and Razr+ 2025 for the North American market. But Motorola seems to be changing things up this time.

Motorola Razr Ultra 2025 Geekbench

Along with the new branding, the Geekbench listing reveals a major hardware upgrade. The upcoming Razr Ultra 2025 will reportedly be powered by the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, which would be a significant upgrade from the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip found in the Razr 50 Ultra/Razr+ 2025.

According to Geekbench, the Snapdragon 8 Elite features six cores clocked at 3.53GHz and two high-performance cores running at 4.32GHz, paired with an Adreno 830 GPU. 

The listing also indicates the device will come with up to 12GB of RAM and is likely to ship with Android 15. In benchmark tests, the foldable scored 2,782 in single-core performance and 8,457 in multi-core tests.

Beyond these details, the listing remains sparse, but the name change and chipset upgrade suggest Motorola has a few surprises in store for its next foldable flagship. We will keep you in the loop if any new details emerge.
