Now, the Nokia 4.2 has received a price cut yet again in the Indian market.

When the phone was launched, it was priced at ₹10,990 but was made available for ₹10,490 just a month after its launch. Later, the phone got another price cut in September, bringing down the cost to ₹9,499.

Now, the Nokia 4.2 smartphone has received yet another price cut in India and the phone is available for purchase at a price of ₹6,999 (approximately $98). While Amazon India has this new pricing list, the revised pricing is expected to be reflected soon on Flipkart and Nokia India eStore as well.

To remind you of the phone’s specifications, the Nokia 4.2 flaunts a 5.71-inch IPS LCD display with a water drop notch and an HD+ screen resolution of 1520 x 720 pixels and 19:9 aspect ratio.

The device is powered by the Snapdragon 439 chipset and comes in 3GB RAM + 32GB storage model in India. The company has not launched the 2GB RAM variant in India. The perfect candidates for this comparison are the wonderful Redmi 7 which is one of the best devices in terms of quality-price ratio, and the Nokia 4.2 which is one of the most affordable handsets with Android One installed.

Design

Due to its high screen-to-body ratio and its reflective glass back, my favorite phone among these ones is the Vivo Y12. On the other side, Xiaomi Redmi 7 is not so different, and it is even splash resistant, so it may represent a better choice for a lot of people. Nokia 4.2 is the compact one and it is one of the smallest last-generation phones. However, its bezels are not so narrow, at least not as narrow as the ones of its rivals, despite the presence of a waterdrop notch.

Display

The display is usually a weak point of entry-level smartphones, and that is more or less the same when it comes to this trio. All of them come with just an HD display and they do not have a high pixel density. The Nokia 4.2 looks slightly more detailed, but just because it shows the same resolution on a smaller screen. Vivo Y12 has the biggest display, you may need to know it if you want to use your phone for multimedia or productivity purposes. For the rest, they all are just affordable panels with sufficient quality.

Specs & Software

If you want the fastest and smoothest phone, do not think twice and go for the Xiaomi Redmi 7. With its Snapdragon 632 chipset and up to 4 GB of RAM, it is able to provide up to midrange-class performances. Both Vivo Y12 and Nokia 4.2 are equipped with entry-level chipsets, but the latter comes with Android One out of the box: a stock version of Google’s operating system with a great software optimization and faster updates. Note that, if you choose the Nokia 4.2, you can only get up to 3 GB of RAM, while Vivo Y12 is slightly better as it is equipped with up to 4 GB of RAM in the most expensive configuration.

Camera

You will not get a high photo quality with any of these handsets, but if we had to choose the best camera phone, we would go for the most versatile one: the Vivo Y12. It is the only to sport a triple camera, and it even has pretty nice sensors for an entry-level device, including a useful ultrawide lens.

Battery

Vivo Y12 mainly focuses on battery life: by implementing a 5000 mAh battery on such an entry-level device, Vivo surely guaranteed up to three days of battery life on a single charge. There should not be so many phones in the entire market which can reach the same battery life as the Vivo Y12. Right after, there is Redmi 7 which still comes with outstanding battery life, despite it does not arrive at the level of the wonderful Vivo Y12. The battery capacity of the Nokia 4.2 is still above-average, but there is no way 3000 mAh can compete with 5000 or even 4000 mAh.

Price

If you want a unit of the Vivo Y12, you are willing to pay about €160/$180. Xiaomi Redmi 7 starts from just €130/$147, while Nokia 4.2 costs €150/$170. In my personal opinion, the Redmi 7 is a more complete and performing device thanks to its better chipset and its well-balanced specs, despite Vivo Y12 has a more versatile camera department and a longer battery life.

The Finnish giant which currently owns the Nokia brand recently launched several budget devices and the most powerful entry-level one is the Nokia 4.2. It mainly focuses on software as it is one of the most affordable devices enabled to the Android One program. In the same price range, there is also the new Vivo Y15 which is mainly focused on battery life, and Realme 3 by Oppo’s sub-brand which has performance and value for money as its strongest point. If you want to know which entry-level should you choose between this amazing trio, go ahead and read this specs comparison.

Design

A compact and lightweight device. This is one of the main advantages of the Nokia 4.2 if we compare it with its rivals in this comparison, as well as most of the budget devices out there. It fits great in a pocket and it is easier to use with one hand than most of the actual phones. Still, some may prefer the Vivo Y15 due to its reflective back and its larger screen.

Display

In each case, you get entry-level panels with similar specifications and the IPS technology. But they are not disappointing displays. Nokia 4.2 has a very small panel, that is great if you need a compact phone and you like one-handed use. The smaller diagonal even allows a higher level of detail due to the higher pixel density. However, I would go for the Vivo Y15 simply because it has a bigger 6.35 panel. My recommendation is not to choose one of these handsets just by looking at the display quality, as there are only marginal differences.

Specs & Software

Three different chipsets for three different levels of performances. Realme 3 wins, there is no doubt. It is faster and smoother thanks to its MediaTek Helio P60, and it even comes in a variant with the even more powerful Helio P70. There is not so much difference between the Helio P22 found on the Vivo Y15 and the Snapdragon 439 found on the Nokia 4.2. But I personally prefer the Nokia 4.2 because it is part of the Android One program, so it provides a smoother and bloatware-free experience as well as faster and more constant updates. Note that Nokia 4.2 is only available with up to 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage, while Vivo Y15 has up to 4 GB RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, so it actually provides better performances in multi-tasking and more space.

Camera

Vivo Y15 has the most complete and versatile camera department, despite it does not necessarily click more detailed photos. But overall, I would go for the Vivo Y15 due to the presence of an ultrawide sensor and an awesome 16 MP front camera for selfies. Realme 3 Pro comes right after as it comes with a better main sensor for the rear camera, but the rest of the setup does not convince me. Nokia 4.2 is the less impressive one.

Battery

Vivo Y15 is equipped with a mammoth 5000 mAh battery which delivers up to three days of battery life even with pretty intensive use. That is simply amazing and one of the best battery phones out there. The second place goes to the Realme 3 with its still awesome 4230 mAh battery.

Price

Nokia 4.2 debuted with a €150/€135 price tag, Vivo Y15 costs €180/$160 and Realme 3 starts from €115/$100. Overall, Realme 3 is my favorite one due to its better performance, big battery, and decent cameras.

The company has now listed the two models on its official India website. The listing did not reveal the price nor the launch date of the models but they act as clues that the duo would soon hit India. The Nokia 3.2 16 GB and 32 GB editions are respectively priced at $139 and $169 in Europe while the 4.2 starts at $169. We don’t expect the prices in India to be too different.

The Nokia 3.2 and 4.2 were both launched at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in February this year. The phones were dropped alongside the penta-lens enabled Nokia 9 PureView as well as the budget-friendly Nokia 1 Plus and Nokia 210 feature phone.

The two models are the first Nokia phones to feature the Water drop notch design. As a reminder, the Nokia 3.2 sports a 6.26-inch a-Si TFT LCD display with a waterdrop notch that delivers 720 x 1520 pixels and 19:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by a Snapdragon 429 processor paired with 2GB or 3GB of RAM while there is the 16GB and 32GB storage onboard respectively. Interestingly, there is a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor on only the 32GB variant. The handset is fueled by a 4,000mAh battery. There is equally a dedicated button for Google Assitant and Nokia included the now patented LED notification light on the power button.

But it is still not easy for everyone to choose the perfect device for his needs, especially when it comes to speed and camera quality. That is why we often compare entry-level and midrange handsets in order to clear our readers’ ideas about them. The Protagonists of today’s comparison are three new smartphones we never compared before: the Samsung Galaxy A20e, Huawei’s Honor 8A Pro and HMD Global‘s Nokia 4.2. You can find all of them for a very modest price, and here we will try to let you understand which one you should opt for.

Design

The design is one of the weakest points of entry-level handsets, but it is not exactly the case for these three devices. They are definitely built with cheap materials, but they look very nice with their optimized bezels and their small notches. Of all these handsets, I personally prefer the Samsung Galaxy A20e not only for its high screen-to-body ratio but also because it is the most compact one. But if you do not like small displays, then you may prefer the Honor 8A Pro with its very narrow bezels and its clean plastic back that looks like glass.

Display

When it comes to display size, Samsung Galaxy A20e and Nokia 4.2 are above-average devices with a diagonal of just 5.8 and 5.71 inches, respectively. So if you prefer phablets, you should definitely go for the Honor 8A Pro. Judging from the specs on the paper, Honor 8A Pro does not seem to offer the best colors and detail, but Samsung Galaxy A20e and Nokia 4.2 are just slightly superior and users should not notice a difference in daily use. So our suggestion is choosing just depending on the size of the display.

Specs & Software

Here you can find the most important differences: the Honor 8A Pro has a much better chipset in terms of speed and power. It comes with a midrange-class Helio P35 and, while not everyone trusts MediaTek nowadays, it is undoubtedly the most powerful chipset with its 12 nm production process and a max clock frequency of 2.3 GHz. The Honor 8A Pro is also the only device to come with 64 GB of internal storage, while Samsung Galaxy A20e stop at 32 GB. And it is possible to furtherly expand the internal storage thanks to a micro SD dedicated slot up to 512 GB.

Camera

If I had to choose the best camera, I would go for the Samsung Galaxy A20e without thinking twice. It is equipped with a dual camera module with a bright aperture and an ultrawide secondary sensor which is very rare to find on entry-level and budget devices. So it deserves the victory only for that. Despite having just a single camera on its back, Honor 8A Pro takes the second place thanks to its bright aperture and decent photos in most of the light conditions. Nokia 4.2 is a stock Android One device, while Samsung Galaxy A20e and Honor 8A Pro have a customized user interface which is not the max on an entry-level phone.

Battery

The opinions we are going to express on these phones battery life is just based on the specs on the paper as we did not test each of them thoroughly. As they come with more or less the same battery capacity (3000 mAh), there should not be important differences in battery life. But Nokia 4.2 may be able to last a bit more due to its smaller display, the very efficient Snapdragon 439 chipset and Android One.

Price

Samsung Galaxy A20e will hit the market next month with a price tag of €189/$213, Honor 8A Pro costs about €200/$225 and Nokia 4.2 costs €150/$170. Overall, despite its more affordable price, Nokia 4.2 looks like a more interesting device thanks to Android One, its optimization and its constant updates. But if you want the best performance and also a good camera, Honor 8A Pro is a more suitable device for you.

Along with the Nokia 9, the company also unveiled Nokia 210, Nokia 3.2 and Nokia 4.2 devices with improved features and enhancements. Every device carries its own set of features and attracts different consumer groups. The Nokia 9 is known for its five-camera module, while Nokia 4.2 and 3.2 both for its notification LED power button.

To save this design feature from being reproduced by different manufacturers, HMD Global has registered a trademark for it. As with the five-camera module design, Nokia has also registered a patent for the notification LED power button featured on Nokia 4.2 and 3.2. In November 2018, HMD applied for the patent at the European Union’s Intellectual Property Office. Recently, the EQUIPO successfully granted the design patents for two devices including the Nokia 210.

The new patent falls under the “mobile phones (part of)” category. This beautiful power button is designed by Richard Choi, an award-winning designer at HMD Global. The new design on Nokia 4.2 gives a halo effect around the power button making it look unique and beautiful. On the Nokia 3.2, LED light glows at the power button’s surface. It’s quite an appealing feature on both Nokia 4.2 and Nokia 3.2.

After the successful patent registration, now we can expect more Nokia devices to feature LED power key.

Additionally, both the devices sport waterdrop notch displays and run on Android Pie. Nokia 4.2 hosts 5.7-inch HD+ display with a 19:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 chipset.
