Huawei has quietly announced a new smartphone in Europe. The new device is the Nova 8i and it has made its debut in Germany.

The Nova 8i is a 4G smartphone that was announced first in Malaysia last July. Now, those in Europe can get their hands on the device, and if you are in Germany, you get a free pair of earbuds too.

The Huawei nova 8i is a 6.67-inch phone with a 2376 x 1080 display that has a pill-shaped cut-out at the top left corner. There is a Snapdragon 662 processor under the hood along with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

On the back of the phone are four cameras – a 64MP f/1.9 primary sensor, an 8MP f/2.4 ultrawide angle camera with a 120º field of view, a 2MP macro camera, and a 2MP depth sensor. Up in front is a 16MP camera. Huawei says there is a built-in AI for noise reduction that allows for sharper nighttime photos.

There is a 4300mAh battery inside the Nova 8i and it charges from empty to full in 38 minutes thanks to having support for 66W fast charging. The phone has 7 antennas and a 180Hz touch sampling rate. It also runs EMUI 11 out of the box with Huawei Mobile Services.

Huawei is offering the phone in Moonlight Silver and Starry Black and has put a price tag of €349 on the phone according to an Amazon listing shared by Roland Quandt. The Nova 9 is powered by the 4G version of the Snapdragon 778G. It offers other specs like a 4,300mAh battery, 66W fast charging, and an in-screen fingerprint reader. Its sole 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage edition is expected to release in Europe with a price tag of 549 euros (~$635).

Honor is not the only Chinese manufacturer launching a phone this month in Europe. Its former parent company, Huawei, is also bringing two new phones to the old continent. These devices are the Nova 8i and the Nova 9.

The launch of the Nova 8i and Nova 9 in Europe is actually quite interesting based on the fact that the Honor 50 Lite coming to Europe is based on the Nova 8i while the Honor 50 is slightly different from the Nova 9.

According to Winfuture.de, the Nova 8i is already listed on the Huawei Italia website. The phone will be available in a single configuration with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for €349. For that price, you get a phone with a 6.67-inch FHD+ IPS LCD display, a Snapdragon 662 processor, 64MP quad rear cameras, 16MP selfie camera, 4300mAh battery, and 66W fast charging.

The Nova 9 was launched in China in September and will also be coming to Europe for €549.99. The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 778G chipset but unlike the Honor 50 which has the same SoC, Huawei’s own phone doesn’t have 5G.

Huawei will be launching the Nova 8i smartphone on July 7 IN Malaysia. The landing page of the phone is now live on Huawei Malaysia’s website through which its design and key features have been confirmed. Reports have claimed that the Nova 8i will be featuring a Snapdragon chip.

The Nova 8i measures 161.85 x 74.7 x 8.58mm and weighs 190 grams. The 6.67-inch IPS LCD FHD+ panel of the phone features a pill-shaped cutout, which houses a 16-megapixel primary camera and an unknown secondary sensor. The handset promises a screen-to-body ratio of 94.7 percent.

The round-shaped camera module on the backside of the phone features a 64-megapixel primary camera with an f/1.9 aperture and a 1/7-inch large sensor size. Huawei is expected to launch the Nova 8i smartphone this month. Ahead of the launch, the Nova 8i has cropped up in the database of the Geekbench benchmarking platform to reveal its key specifications. Except for a few older phones such as Huawei P8 Lite, Huawei Y6 (2018), and a few Y-series phones that came with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips, most of the Huawei phones have featured its homegrown Kirin chipsets. However, the Nova 8i’s Geekbench listing (via) reveals that it will be driven by a Snapdragon chip.

Rumors surrounding the Nova 8i have claimed that it will be featuring the Snapdragon 662 mobile platform. The handset has appeared with its NEN-L22 model number on the benchmarking platform. The listing reveals that Qualcomm’s octa-core chip that fuels the Nova 8i has four CPU cores working at 1.80GHz and quad CPU cores ticking at 2.02GHz. The Snapdragon 662 offers the same processing speeds, which indicates that it could be present under the hood of the Nova 8i.

The Nova 8i’s Geekbench listing further reveals that it has 8 GB of RAM. The Android 10 OS available on the device could be overlaid with an EMUI skin. The handset scored 307 points in the single-core test of Geekbench, while it recorded 1290 points in the multi-core test.
