Huawei has been making devices with stylus support for a few years now. Its styluses are sold under the M-Pencil name and support cross-compatibility and multi-device connection, allowing owners to use the same stylus for both a compatible phone and tablet simultaneously. A few months ago, it launched the M-Pencil 2 alongside new MatePad tablets but there is a chance we will be getting another stylus this year, one that is expected to launch as the V-Pencil.

The folks at LetsGoDigital have discovered that the Chinese manufacturer has applied for a trademark for Huawei V-Pencil. The application was filed on October 4, and if the name didn’t already give it away that this is a stylus, the description states that it is an “electronic pen, computer stylus, touchscreen stylus”.

Huawei V-Pencil

We want to believe that the Huawei V-Pencil stylus will launch alongside the Huawei Mate V foldable phone reported to be scheduled for launch later this year. Thus, it is not far-fetched to say that this is a special stylus designed for the foldable just as Samsung did with its Galaxy Z Fold3 which launched with a special stylus dubbed the S Pen Fold Edition.

There are speculations that if the V-Pencil is indeed for the Huawei Mate V, then the foldable phone may not have a clamshell design like the Galaxy Z Flip3 but a design similar to the Mate X2 that launched earlier this year.

The specifications of the Mate V foldable phone are still unknown but it is expected to come with a Kirin 9000 4G processor and according to the leaker that goes by @RODENT950 on Twitter, it will use the same liquid metal hinge mechanism available on the Mate X2.
