The recruitment for the ColorOS 12 closed beta program will be carried out from November 29th to November 30th for both the OPPO Ace2 and the Ace2 EVA Limited Edition. 500 will be recruited following a review that will be conducted within 5 working days of recruitment. The new update will be pushed within 3 working days after the review is completed.

Do note here that builds pushed through the internal test channel would still be under the development stage and will hence not be as stable as regular updates. Prepare to run into bugs, abnormal power usage, and other issues. While issues aren’t exactly guaranteed to exist, if you do run into them then just be sure to report them to OPPO.

With the launch of the Ace2, it was reported that OPPO was creating another smartphone line. A new leak has now revealed that the new line has been killed off just as quickly as it was created.

The source of the info is the Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station, and it was revealed on Weibo. He stated that there will be a sort of replacement for the Ace line but this time, it will launch under Realme with the same flagship specs of the Ace series and also support for 125W fast charging.

At the moment, Realme has three product lines for China. There is the Q series which has just one phone – the Realme Q; there is also the Realme V series, and then there is the Realme X series.

The Realme X series is the only Realme series that is not exclusive to China but it is too early to know if the series that will serve as the replacement for the Ace series will be exclusive to China or will also be announced in other markets.

Design

At first glance, since it features a less invasive camera module, OnePlus 8 looks more elegant than its rivals. But the Vivo X50 Pro+ comes in a stunning color variant including a leather body which, in my honest opinion, would win almost every design comparison. I also like the Vivo X50 Pro+ for its curved screen and its incredibly high screen-to-body ratio. Sure, its camera module is huge and it is not the most elegant solution, but it remains one of the most stylish phones out there.

Display

With OnePlus 8, Oppo Ace2 and Vivo X50 Pro+ you do not get so many differences when it comes to display specifications. We give the first place to the Vivo X50 Pro+ because it has a higher refresh rate: 120 Hz instead of the 90 Hz found on the OnePlus 8 and the Oppo Ace2. With 120 Hz, you get a smoother viewing experience. In each case, you get an AMOLED panel with rich colors and the HDR10+ certification, as well as the same display diagonal.

Hardware/Software

The strongest point of OnePlus 8, Oppo Ace 2 and Vivo X50 Pro+ is undoubtedly the hardware side. They all feature the Snapdragon 865 mobile platform which is actually the best Qualcomm SoC released in 2020 for mobile devices. You even get up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 3.0 native storage. These devices are able to provide blazing speeds, high stability, and very high performances in every scenario, including the most demanding games and multi-tasking. The most interesting software side is the one found on the OnePlus 8 as it runs the Oxygen OS which is close to stock Android and well-optimized, but ColorOS is getting very close with a lot of improvements in the last period.

Camera

Vivo X50 Pro+ is definitely the best camera phone of this trio with a 50 MP main camera, dual OIS, 5x optical zoom and gimbal-like stabilization technology which is actually a lot better than normal OIS systems. Right after (but it does not stand a chance against the Vivo X50 Pro+), we got the OnePlus 8 with a 48 MP triple camera. Oppo Ace2 is definitely not a high-end camera phone.

Battery

Oppo Ace2 has the fastest charging technology and even the fastest wireless charging technology ever brought to the market. It needs just 30 minutes for a full charge and 56 minutes with wireless charging. But the OnePlus 8 can provide the longest battery life thanks to a bigger battery.

Price

OnePlus 8 sells in China with a starting price of €502/$565, Oppo Ace2 is priced $565 too, and Vivo X50 Pro+ sells for $709/€630. If we consider all the specifications, Vivo X50 Pro+ is the most convincing one as it offers a higher refresh rate and much better cameras. If you do not care about cameras, you can save some money with the Oppo Ace2 without facing important compromises. OnePlus 8 carries the same starting price as the Oppo Ace2 but it offers better cameras and slower charging speeds, as well as a great software department with the Oxygen OS.

The device was the Ace2 EVA Transparent Edition, which is based on the popular anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion. While the existence of the smartphone was previously confirmed, it had yet to be launched or seen. Now, we finally have a proper look at the device.

The limited variant of the Oppo smartphone was first shared by @i冰宇宙 on his blog that revealed that the Ace2 EVA Transparent Edition was meant to commemorate the upcoming Evangelion movie. This movie was the final part of a 4 film series that retold the events of the iconic anime and was scheduled for release in June 2020. Unfortunately, this has since been delayed due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

As the name suggests, the special Oppo Ace2 variant features a unique design. On the back, one can observe the nostalgic patterns and design that is a nod to the anime and its EVAs (giant human controlled mechas/robots). The rear panel is mostly covered in a black background over which angular circuitry designs run across the back and with the series logo above the Chinese company’s own brand name.

In recent times, smartphone vendors are increasingly adopting various and popular cinematics IPs for new launches. These handsets are generally limited edition and are said to be quite popular in certain markets. The Oppo Ace2 was launched back in April 2020 and is the flagship entry from the tech giant. Thus, it is no surprise the company would wish to attract consistent sales with a special edition.

It’s a high-end device with top-notch specs like Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 SoC and a 90Hz refresh rate display panel. The Ace2 launches as the first phone in a new line of smartphones rather than under the Reno line as last year’s Ace. After the event, a senior executive of Oppo revealed why the company split up Ace lineup into an independent series.

Soon after the launch conference, Oppo held a press conference as well. In this, the Product Manager of Oppo Ace2, Wu Di, and Wang Shiming, the Senior Hardware Engineer of Oppo, answered various questions regarding the smartphone. One question answered is why Ace is now an independent series. The company wanted to make up for the mid to high-end product, while also better catering to the needs of the market segment.

UP NEXT: OPPO Ace2 5G launched with Snapdragon 865, 65W Wired & 40W Fast Wireless Charging

In other words, Oppo made the decision after carefully formulating and strategizing according to the current market situation. The senior executive believed that an independent series could better target the trending demands of the market and also bridge the mid to high-end product line gap as well.

Wu Di also explained the reason for opting for a 90Hz panel over a 120Hz panel. According to him, there is no one step adopting of 120Hz refresh rate. He stated that even if it is trending, it is not perfect, and its implementation and compatibility is still low. Another notable reason was the power consumption and heat generation since the battery drain is significantly higher with a faster refresh rate, which may even have some games making the device run even hotter.

Now, ahead of the launch, the company has shared a teaser poster which gives us a partial look at the upcoming smartphone’s design. The poster also confirms that the device will come powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC.

It also confirms that there will be a quad-camera setup on the OPPO Ace2 smartphone where the sensors will be placed on a circular module which is also referred as “Oreo” camera design. The phone will have volume rocker keys on the left side while the power button is placed on the right.

The OPPO Ace2 smartphone was recently spotted on AnTuTu where it scored 180,132 points in the CPU test, 210,371 in the GPU test, 89,927 in the memory test and 79,787 in the UX test. It recorded an average benchmarking score of 560,217 points on AnTuTu.

Interestingly, the AnTuTu listing shows a warning that the device may be rooted, and system parameters may have been changed due to the root, which may lead to an inaccurate score.
