<p><a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/pico">Pico</a>, a subsidiary of <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/bytedance">ByteDance</a>, is preparing to launch its next-generation mixed reality headset, the Pico 4S. Info about this headset was <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/07/02/pico-4s-vr-headset-specs-surface-online/">previously leaked</a> back in July 2024. Building upon the success of its predecessor, the Pico 4, the 4S model has a fair number of upgrades.</p>

<h3>The Pico 4S has an upgraded strap design with detachable wrist straps for controllers</h3>

<p>A key upgrade is the integration of the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon">Snapdragon </a>XR2 Gen 2 chipset, previously seen in the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/meta-quest-3">Meta Quest 3</a>. This powerful processor, featuring two 2.05GHz cores and four 2.36GHz cores, combined with 12GB of RAM, is expected to deliver superior performance compared to its competitors.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="640" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/PICO-4S-1-1154x721-1-1024x640.webp?x10805" alt="Pico 4S Mixed reality headset" class="wp-image-644473" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/PICO-4S-1-1154x721-1-1024x640.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/PICO-4S-1-1154x721-1-300x187.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/PICO-4S-1-1154x721-1-768x480.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/PICO-4S-1-1154x721-1-696x435.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/PICO-4S-1-1154x721-1-1068x667.webp 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/PICO-4S-1-1154x721-1-672x420.webp 672w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/PICO-4S-1-1154x721-1.webp 1154w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>The Pico 4S is designed to offer a seamless blend of virtual and real worlds. While the front panel may resemble a display, it primarily houses cameras essential for <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/mixed-reality-headset">mixed reality</a> experiences. These cameras enable users to interact with both virtual and physical environments simultaneously.</p>

<p>Comfort and user experience remain a priority for Pico. The Pico 4S features an improved head strap design, building upon the comfort offered by its predecessor. Additionally, the headset includes detachable wrist straps for its controllers, enhancing user safety and preventing accidental loss.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter"><img src="https://www.androidheadlines.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/PICO-4S-6-1420x799.webp" alt="" /></figure></div>

<p>The headset is expected to launch in the near future, likely coinciding with the upcoming holiday season.</p>

<p>Rumors of a new <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/vr-headset">VR headset</a> from Pico are surfacing, though the company itself hasn&#8217;t uttered a word. <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/virtual-reality">VR</a> enthusiast Luna revealed the info after reportedly speaking with industry insiders and even getting a glimpse of what might be developer versions of the headset. </p>

<h3>The headset will likely sport dual LCD screens with a 2160 x 2160px resolution. </h3>

<p>The name &#8220;Pico 4S&#8221; is yet to be confirmed, but trademarks filed by Pico in March point towards its potential legitimacy. Luna&#8217;s reports shed light on the rumored specifications, which include an upgraded <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/qualcomm">Qualcomm</a> <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon">Snapdragon</a> XR2 Gen 2 chipset for better performance. The headset would also boast 12GB of memory for smooth operation.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="860" height="484" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/ad22d9e0-530d-4245-ac85-53701035270f.webp?x10805" alt="" class="wp-image-635746" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/ad22d9e0-530d-4245-ac85-53701035270f.webp 860w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/ad22d9e0-530d-4245-ac85-53701035270f-300x169.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/ad22d9e0-530d-4245-ac85-53701035270f-768x432.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/ad22d9e0-530d-4245-ac85-53701035270f-696x392.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/ad22d9e0-530d-4245-ac85-53701035270f-746x420.webp 746w" sizes="(max-width: 860px) 100vw, 860px" /></figure></div>

<p>Visually, the Pico 4S might sport dual <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/lcd">LCD</a> screens with a resolution of 2160 x 2160 pixels per eye, delivering a sharp viewing experience. A 90Hz refresh rate is also rumored, promising seamless visuals. The design could take advantage of a compact pancake lens, possibly paired with an electric pupil distance adjustment feature for personalized comfort.</p>

<p>For a more immersive experience, the headset might come equipped with a comprehensive sensor suite. This includes 4 tracking <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/camera">cameras</a>, 2 RGB perspective cameras, and 2 infrared illuminators to capture room depth. The handle design is also rumored to be different from previous models, featuring a ringless approach.</p>

<p>Exciting additions are rumored on the mixed reality front. Room scanning and the ability to freely place virtual floating panels within the physical space are some of the possibilities mentioned by Luna. While Luna suggests these features are likely finalized, there&#8217;s always a chance for tweaks before release. Interestingly, a recent device certification in South Korea hints that the launch of the headset could be on the horizon, potentially arriving within the next few months. </p>

<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-486446 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/PICO-4-Launch-Event-Teaser.png?x10805" alt="PICO 4 Launch Event Teaser" width="1440" height="810" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/PICO-4-Launch-Event-Teaser.png 1440w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/PICO-4-Launch-Event-Teaser-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/PICO-4-Launch-Event-Teaser-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/PICO-4-Launch-Event-Teaser-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/PICO-4-Launch-Event-Teaser-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/PICO-4-Launch-Event-Teaser-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/PICO-4-Launch-Event-Teaser-747x420.png 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1440px) 100vw, 1440px" /></p>
<p>If the reports are to be believed, then the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/pico-4">PICO 4</a> will come with an industry-leading Pancake Optical Solution. Compared to the traditional Fresnel lens, it can reduce the size of the headset and significantly improve the wearing comfort for the users.</p>
<p>The PICO 4 is also expected to have significantly improved in terms of clarity, and the field of view angle has reportedly reached 105-degree, which can offer users a more immersive <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/vr">virtual reality</a> experience.</p>
<p data-vmark="379c">There will reportedly be a Pro-tier headset from the company, which will include face and eye tracking, as well as a passthrough RGB camera that enables <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/mixed-reality">mixed reality</a> experiences. It is also rumored to have an automatic IPD, which can automatically adjust the hardware for the wearer’s IPD (inter-pupillary distance).</p>
<p data-vmark="379c">The headset will be powered by <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android">Android</a> Q and an unidentified <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/qualcomm">Qualcomm</a> processor. To know more about the devices, we will have to wait for the official launch event set to take place in the coming days in China.</p>

It has now followed it up with the Pico G2 4K headset, which as the name says has a 4K display.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-243683" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Pico-G2-4K-VR-headset.png?x10805" alt="Pico G2 4K VR headset" width="640" height="344" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Pico-G2-4K-VR-headset.png 640w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Pico-G2-4K-VR-headset-300x161.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></p>
<p>While the display is sharper and there have been some changes in the design, some things have remained the same. It is still powered by a Snapdragon 835 processor and it comes with 4GB of RAM and 32GB UFS 2.1 storage. There is a MicroSD card slot for up to 256GB of extra space. It runs Android 8.1 Oreo and packs a 3,500mAh battery that charges via a USB type-C port and should last up to 3 hours on a single charge. The 5.5-inch 4K display has a resolution of 3840 x 2160 and a PPI of 818. It uses a modified Fresnel lens to control edge distortion.</p>
<p>The Pico G2 4K now comes in black but keeps the battery at the back of the strap for better weight distribution. The strap is adjustable and the headset can be worn with prescription glasses. It also has a 3DoF controller that comes in the same matching color.</p>
<p>The VR headset has a dual-platform store. There is the Pico Store and the VIVEPORT store, so you should have a wide variety of apps to choose from. It also supports casting to screen so others can watch you play.</p>

The popular ones are the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/05/01/the-oculus-go-standalone-vr-headset-goes-on-sale-for-199/">Oculus Go</a> by Facebook&#8217;s Oculus, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/01/10/lenovo-mirage-solo-official-first-worldsense-standalone-daydream-vr-headset/">Lenovo Mirage Solo</a>, and the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/11/14/htc-vive-focus-vr-headset-powered-snapdragon-835-official/">HTC Vive Focus</a>. A new one just hit the market and it is the Goblin 2 by Pico.</p>
<p>Pico has been making VR headsets for about 3 years now and the Goblin 2 is their third standalone VR headset. Its predecessors are the Pico Goblin and the Pico Neo.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-204571" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Pico-Goblin-2.png?x10805" alt="Pico Goblin 2" width="616" height="768" /></p>
<p>The Pico Goblin 2 has a similar design to the Oculus Go &#8211; a rounded rectangle front, polycarbonate body, and straps for holding it in place. Pico has made some significant changes to the new model.</p>
<p>The Goblin 2 weighs significantly less at 268g as against the Goblin&#8217;s 400g. This should make it more comfortable to wear for long. The new headset also has smaller dimensions and comes with a redesigned remote. The headset still supports 3DoF.</p>
<p>What we don&#8217;t like about the design is the position of the speakers which is underneath the device. So it seems to be pumping sounds downwards. We can&#8217;t say how well the speakers sound unless we get a hands-on review. However, there is a 3.5mm audio jack which is also at the bottom of the device.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-204573" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Pico-Goblin-2-remote.png?x10805" alt="Pico Goblin 2 remote" width="435" height="269" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Pico-Goblin-2-remote.png 435w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Pico-Goblin-2-remote-300x186.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 435px) 100vw, 435px" /></p>
<p>The major changes are on the inside. The Pico Goblin 2 comes with two 3.5-inch TFT displays for a combined resolution of 2880 x 1600 (3K), unlike the original Goblin that has a single 5.5-inch 2560 x 1440 display. The refresh rate of the displays have also been bumped to 90Hz and the field of view is 101°.</p>
<p>The Goblin 2 also swaps out the Snapdragon 820 of its predecessor for the Snapdragon 835 Mobile Platform and runs Android 8.1 Oreo. RAM is 4GB and built-in storage is 32GB (UFS 2.1) but you can add more storage via a MicroSD card slot (256GB max.).</p>
<p>Even though the Goblin 2 is smaller, Pico has kept the 3500mAh battery capacity of its predecessor. The manufacturer says you should get about 3 hours of use from it. The device charges via a USB-C 3.0 port and has support for USB OTG.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-204575" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Pico-Goblin-2-specs.png?x10805" alt="Pico Goblin 2 specs" width="470" height="321" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Pico-Goblin-2-specs.png 470w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Pico-Goblin-2-specs-300x205.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 470px) 100vw, 470px" /></p>
<p>When it comes to content, users can purchase or load apps and content from Pico&#8217;s own store or HTC&#8217;s Vive Port.</p>

<p>The Pico Goblin 2 is priced at ¥1999 (~$293) and will be sold on <a href="https://detail.tmall.com/item.htm?spm=a220o.1000855.w5001-16933258848.11.41587ecad2Ko9y&amp;id=573434404455&amp;ali_trackid=42_78b2a585a1479af1b56ddcd00cb6bbed&amp;skuId=3756167281018">Tmall</a> and <a href="http://item.jd.com/8468465.html#crumb-wrap">JD.com</a>. Although it is a bit more expensive than the Oculus Go/Mi VR Standalone which sells for $199 in the US and ¥1499 in China for the 32GB version, the Pico Goblin 2 comes with much better specs and a larger battery.</p>
