The car is expected to be priced around $27,000 at launch

The car sports a unique charge indicator light on the hood, dual charging ports, and a design that echoes the concept car while introducing practical changes like larger side mirrors and traditional door handles.

Beneath its nostalgic exterior lies a technological powerhouse. Unlike many EVs that ride on dedicated electric platforms, the Renault 5 E-Tech will utilize the Clio’s underpinnings, borrowing a significant portion of its hardware. This move not only keeps production costs in check but also ensures that the vehicle benefits from tried and tested engineering. Furthermore, the inclusion of a multi-link rear suspension is a rarity in this segment, promising sharper handling and a more engaging driving experience.

Range and affordability are key selling points for the Renault 5 E-Tech. With a 52.0-kilowatt-hour battery offering up to 249 miles (400 kilometers) of range, it meets the daily needs of most urban drivers. A more affordable version with a 40.0-kWh battery will follow, broadening its appeal. These batteries boast a higher energy density than those in the Zoe, ensuring a more efficient use of space.

Renault’s Latest Concept EV is the Twingo, May be Priced Below $22,000 at Launch

Renault Group is making a bold move in the electric vehicle (EV) market with the conceptual unveiling of its next-generation Twingo, a compact city car. Scheduled for a 2026 launch, the Renault Twingo represents the brand’s venture into more budget-friendly EVs, aiming for a price tag below 20,000 euros. Not only is it affordable, but it’s also set to be the brand’s most energy-efficient EV to date, boasting an impressive 10 kilowatt-hours per 100 kilometers energy consumption.

The Twingo draws inspiration from the original 1992 model

This efficiency marks a significant leap forward, making the Twingo EV 50% more efficient than similar small EVs currently available. While detailed specs are yet to be released, it’s expected that the Twingo will be built on the newly named AmpR Small platform, shared with the upcoming Renault 5 and Renault 4 electric models.

Renault’s strategy with the Twingo is intriguing, as it positions itself as a direct competitor to Chinese EV manufacturers, known for their rapid development cycles. CEO Luca de Meo has emphasized Twingo’s role as a European version of Japan’s compact kei cars, highlighting its suitability for urban environments where larger vehicles are impractical.

Styling-wise, the 2026 Twingo draws inspiration from the original 1992 model, blending retro elements with modern design. It retains the classic single-box shape but adds modern touches like five doors and revamped headlights and taillights. Renault Scenic E-Tech EV Spotted on the Roads during Testing Phase

Renault, a renowned automobile brand, is making its mark in Europe once again with the introduction of the Renault Scenic E-Tech, an upcoming electric vehicle (EV) model. The development of this exciting new addition to Renault’s lineup has been captured in these recently leaked spy shots, providing us with our first glimpse into its design.

Few details peer through the camouflage wrapping the Renault vehicle

To keep the Scenic E-Tech’s appearance under wraps, Renault’s engineering team has covered the exterior with a camouflage wrap, employing blocky panels to further obscure the vehicle’s body. However, certain details manage to shine through. The front of the Scenic E-Tech boasts a sleek nose with a tiny inlet positioned in the lower portion of its face, accompanied by slender headlights that gracefully frame the hood.

When viewed from the side, the Scenic E-Tech proudly displays its short overhangs at both ends, giving it a compact yet stylish profile. The C-pillar, with its distinctive angle, adds a touch of elegance to the rear, ensuring that it doesn’t appear too boxy. A subtle spoiler gracefully extends over the back window, enhancing its aerodynamic appeal.

Although the heavy camouflage conceals many details at the rear, the taillights manage to peek through, providing a glimpse of their design. Unfortunately, the interior of the Scenic E-Tech remains a mystery as the spy shots do not provide us with a clear view of the cabin.

Drawing inspiration from the 2022 Renault Scenic Vision concept, the Scenic E-Tech exhibits design elements reminiscent of its counterpart. The Scenic Vision concept showcased sharper creases and a crossover-like appearance, setting it apart from previous Scenic models that traditionally belonged to the MPV segment.

The Scenic Vision concept featured a 215-horsepower electric motor borrowed from the Megane E-Tech, coupled with a 40-kilowatt-hour battery. Additionally, it incorporated a 16-kW hydrogen fuel cell beneath the floor for charging the drive battery.

Renault had previously announced plans for a production version of the Scenic Vision concept, scheduled for release in 2024. This production model would utilize the CMF-EV platform, most likely eliminating the hydrogen range extender seen in the concept. All indications point to the vehicle captured in these new spy shots being the much-anticipated realization of the Scenic Vision concept – a car finally come to life.

Nissan, Renault to Invest $600 Million to Make Six New Models, Including Two EVs, in India

Nissan and Renault have announced a $600 million investment to make six new models in India. The move is aimed at boosting their falling market shares in the country and taking advantage of its growing global importance as the third-largest car market in the world. As part of their revamped alliance, the two companies will closely cooperate in three markets, including India, Latin America, and Europe.

The six new models will be built on joint platforms, allowing for shared components and engineering, and will include two electric vehicles, the first of their kind in India. The remaining four models will be sports utility vehicles, all to be manufactured at the Chennai plant in southern India, where the companies have a joint ownership and a research and development center.

Despite having a combined market share of 3% in India in 2022, the investment holds great significance for both Nissan and Renault. While Nissan has a significant presence in China, the United States, and Japan, Renault does not, making India a crucial market for its success. The Chennai plant has the capacity to produce 500,000 vehicles a year, but the companies sold only 87,000 and 35,000 vehicles respectively in India last year.

The automotive industry in India witnessed a 23% surge in sales last year, reaching 4.4 million vehicles and overtaking the Japanese market. This investment by Nissan and Renault is a strategic move to capture a share of this rapidly growing market and use India as a base for exports.

New Dongfeng Nano Box Launched In China, Price Starts At 8,800 USD

Recently, three new models of the Dongfeng Nano Box, a small pure electric SUV, were officially launched in China by Dongfeng EV. The Nano Box is a business unit under the Dongfeng Group that focuses on small pure electric vehicles and is currently building a new platform for small electric vehicles.

The car was originally developed by Renault, called the Renault Kwid, and the electric version is called the Renault City K-ZE. This car is made in China by Dongfeng-Renault and was exported to Europe as the Dacia Spring. Dongfeng’s own brands and sub-brands make other versions too, called the Dongfeng Aeolus EX1, Dongfeng Fengxing T1, Dongfeng Fengguang E1, the Venucia e30, and the Dongfeng Nano Box. All are made in the same factory.

The Nano Box has a round overall shape and measures 3732/1579/1515mm with a 2423mm wheelbase. The charging port is located in the front of the car. The interior of the Nano Box adopts a two-color design that is similar to the exterior. The car comes with a 7-inch instrument panel and a 10-inch central control screen. The car is connected to an app which provides features like remote door control, remote air conditioning control, vehicle positioning/car search, charging management, and vehicle condition inquiry/diagnosis. The seat material is made of fake leather.

The Nano Box is equipped with a front motor that outputs 33 kW and 125 Nm. Dongfeng claims the car’s official 0-50 km/h acceleration time is 6 seconds. The battery is a lithium iron phosphate battery from CATL with a capacity of 15.97kWh, achieving a CLTC pure electric cruising range of 201km. The entry-level model only supports slow charging which takes 3 hours to achieve a full charge, the other two models support fast charging which takes only 0.53 hours to achieve a full charge.

In the next 5 years, Dongfeng EV plans to launch 3 to 5 new models, covering SUVs and sedans. The price range of the three new models is 59,700 – 64,700 RMB (8,800 – 96,00 USD) making it an affordable electric SUV option for Chinese consumers.

Qualcomm partners with Google to bring infotainment system to Renault Mégane E-TECH Electric

Qualcomm has announced that the company is working with Google and Renault to design an in-vehicle experience for Renault’s next-generation electric vehicle, the new Mégane E-TECH Electric, which was unveiled today at IAA Mobility 2021 in Germany.

The carmaker will use the third-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit Platforms for powering a technically advanced infotainment system that includes portrait-sized touchscreen infotainment displays for audio, visual, and navigational functions.

The company adds that the infotainment systems in the new Mégane E-TECH Electric will come equipped with built-in Google apps and services for infotainment and in-vehicle customer applications as well as to keep the vehicle fresh and current with evolving digital trends with its upgradeable capabilities.

Qualcomm’s 3rd generation Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit Platforms are designed to transform in-vehicle experiences, supporting higher levels of compute and intelligence needed for advanced capabilities featured in next-generation vehicles. It aims to offer highly intuitive AI experiences for in-car virtual assistance, natural interactions between the vehicle and driver, and contextual safety use cases.

The digital cockpit in Renault’s Mégane E-TECH Electric is powered by the Android Automotive Operating System (AAOS) that uses Google’s technology to bring a new level of intelligence. It will also feature hands-free help from Google Assistant, positionally precise navigational maps with Google Maps, as well as a rich ecosystem of automotive applications and services on Google Play.
