Retroid has launched its most powerful Android handheld console yet, the Retroid Pocket 6. The device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and is aimed at users who want smooth emulator performance along with native Android gaming support.

The Pocket 6 comes in two configurations. The base model has 8GB LPDDR5X RAM and 128GB UFS 3.1 storage, priced at $209. The higher-end version has 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, priced at $259. Both variants support microSD card expansion.

Retroid has retained the same 5.5-inch AMOLED panel from the G2. The screen supports a 1920×1080 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The device also includes additional shortcut keys below the display for better usability. The body measures 210.4 × 86.6 × 17.2 mm and weighs 320 grams.

In terms of raw performance, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 provides flagship-tier power comparable to 2022-2023 Android flagships. It easily handles demanding emulators, high-end Android games, and high-frame-rate content without noticeable lag or stutter.

The console houses a 6000mAh battery supporting 27W fast charging and features an active cooling system to sustain performance during longer sessions. Retroid has unveiled the Pocket 2S Metallic Edition which has the same specifications as the regular variant but a metal casing. The regular variant of the Pocket 2S gaming handheld was introduced by Retroid in July of this year. The new metal version of the Retroid Pocket 2S tiny gaming portable is another addition to the original six color choices.

The Pocket 2S’s design is influenced by the original Nintendo model. The Pocket 2S’s metallic custom casing went on sale at retail today on the official website of the company. The Retroid Pocket 2S Metal Edition comes in a single color which is—a grey colorway.

Retroid Pocket 2S Metal Edition features

The Metal Edition has a 4,000 mAh battery and a Unisoc Tiger T610 processor. Regarding specifications, the former has a Mali-G52 MC2 GPU, six Cortex-A55 CPU cores, and two ARM Cortex-A75 CPU cores, clocked at 1.8 GHz, 1.8 GHz, and 614 MHz, etc.

The Metal Edition further makes use of a 3.5-inch IPS display with 640 x 480 pixels and a 4:3 aspect ratio. In addition, the display features a touchscreen layer for an additional input option and a refresh rate of 60 Hz. However, since the Pocket 2S’s debut, the company has not disclosed any updates to the latest version of Android. The handhelds are still getting pre-installed with Android 11.

Retroid has launched a new handheld gaming console called the Retroid Pocket 3+. As the name suggests, the device is the successor of the Retroid Pocket 3 and comes with multiple improvements over its predecessor.

The console is designed to run retro games up to Dreamcast, PSP, Nintendo 64, Playstation 2, and Game Cube. It has replaced the Unisoc T310 chipset with the more powerful Unisoc T616 chipset. Specifically, the new T618 chip has two ARM Cortex-A75 and six Cortex-A55 CPU cores clocked at 2 GHz, plus a Mali-G52 MC2 GPU.

The chipset is paired with 4GB of LPDDR4x (1866MHz) RAM and 128 GB of expandable storage, which are significant improvements over the last-gen console. The manufacturer has also added a 4,500 mAh battery, which is 500mAh larger than before. The screen size of the console remains the same 4.7-inch panel with a 1,334 x 750-pixel resolution, 450nits brightness, and 60Hz refresh rate. The console unfortunately has a pre-installed version of the Android 11 operating system.

The I/O is also the same as the last generation, meaning we will be getting a 3.5 mm jack, a micro HDMI port, a microSD card reader, and a USB Type-C port. The device measures 185 x 82 x 24 mm and weighs a comfortable 245 grams.

Retroid is offering the Pocket 3+ console in eight colorways, all of which will retail at US$149 before shipping. At the time of writing, the Retroid website has the device up for pre-order, with a claimed shipping date of November 18.
