Huawei is giving the humble home router a serious glow-up with its new X1 series, and it’s more than just about raw speed—it’s about how a router fits into your life. The freshly launched Huawei Router X1 and X1 Pro bring Wi-Fi 7 to your living room, wrapped in a sleek, modern design that’s meant to sit out in the open, not gather dust behind your TV. These aren’t just network tools—they’re smart, stylish hubs designed to handle everything from gaming marathons to smart home setups.

Huawei Router X1 and X1 Pro Specifications

The standout feature here is Huawei’s own Lingxi Antenna system. Instead of the usual cluster of spiky external antennas, the X1 routers use a clean cylindrical design that hides 11 internal antennas. This setup delivers 360° omnidirectional coverage and uses smart antenna scheduling to actively direct the signal toward wherever you are in the house. It’s not just prettier—it’s smarter, too.

Under the hood, both models run on Huawei’s custom Lingxiao chip, which includes a high-performance CPU, AI neural engine, and a network acceleration unit. That means AI-powered signal tuning, faster multitasking, and stable connections even when the whole house is online. You also get four power amplifiers (PA+LNA) to push strong signals through thick walls.

On the connectivity side, the routers support Wi-Fi 7 features like Multi-Link Operation, letting devices use both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands at the same time for more speed and stability. They also include tech like 4K QAM and Multi-RU scheduling to better manage bandwidth, and Preamble Puncture, which cleverly routes your data around interference like a traffic Waze for your Wi-Fi.

As for ports, the base X1 comes with two 2.5G Ethernet ports, while the X1 Pro bumps that up to four, perfect for wired connections to your gaming rig, PC, or NAS. Both routers support Huawei’s StarLight gateway, offering tight integration with HarmonyOS devices like smart locks, sensors, and cameras. Basically, if your home’s getting smarter, this router is ready for it.

Gamers aren’t left out either. The built-in Game Turbo mode recognizes over 160 popular titles and optimizes the connection to cut latency by as much as 37%. HarmonyOS 4 integration also makes device setup easier, adds powerful parental controls, and even offers visual network diagnostics for over 80 common issues—so fixing Wi-Fi problems doesn’t require a tech degree.

Pricing and Availability

Talking about the pricing, the standard Router X1 starts at 599 yuan (around $82), while the higher-end X1 Pro comes in at 899 yuan (approximately $125). Pre-orders for both models kicked off today at 2:30 PM in China, with the first official sale scheduled for 10:08 AM on April 25. Both models will be available through Huawei’s online store and authorized retailers.

In related news, TP-Link recently introduced the TL-WR3002X, a high-speed Wi-Fi 6 travel router, while Asus has launched a new Wi-Fi 7 gaming router featuring nine 2.5G ports.

NordVPN and ASUS have joined forces to integrate the popular VPN directly into ASUS’s networking devices, making it easier than ever for users to protect their entire home network. Traditionally, VPNs require installation on individual devices. With this integration, users simply need a router with built-in NordVPN functionality, eliminating the need for separate software on each machine. This also extends protection to devices that wouldn’t typically support VPN software.

Once users access their router’s self-service page, they can enable the VPN.

The first two routers to receive this integration are the tri-mode connectivity ASUS RT-AX57 Go and the GT-AX11000 Pro, a model designed specifically for gamers. Setting up the integrated NordVPN service is a breeze – users simply need to access the router’s self-service page. “Our goal is to contribute to a more secure internet,” said Vykintas Maknickas, Head of Product Strategy at NordVPN. “By enabling easy setup of VPN services on routers, we can protect entire networks for our customers.”

ASUS is equally enthusiastic about the collaboration. Tenlong Deng, Corporate Vice President and General Manager of Networking and Wireless Devices Business Unit at ASUS, expressed his delight: “We’re thrilled to partner with NordVPN and integrate their service into our products. The built-in VPN configuration options offer users a flexible and secure way to explore the internet with complete privacy.”

While NordVPN subscriptions range from £10.39 to £13.19 per month, longer commitments offer significant savings, with one and two-year plans bringing discounts of up to 72%. The Wi-Fi 6-compatible RT-AX57 Go starts at £89.99 ($115), while the high-performance GT-AX11000 Pro costs £399.99 ($510).

Netgear is introducing more accessible versions of its high-end Orbi and Nighthawk router systems. Whether they are actually affordable for you or not, that’s up to you to decide.

The Orbi 970 router supports Wi-Fi 7 with speeds of up to 11Gbps

The recently released Orbi 970, while boasting impressive specs, comes with a hefty price tag. The new Orbi 770 offers a more budget-friendly alternative, starting at $700. This tri-band mesh router system still packs a punch, supporting Wi-Fi 7 with speeds of up to 11Gbps (enough to handle even the most demanding households). That’s 11 times faster than your typical internet plan (measured in Mbps, not Gbps).

Coverage is impressive too, with a three-pack system blanketing up to 8,000 square feet. Gamers and power users will appreciate the presence of 2.5Gb LAN ports for wired connections. The sleek cylindrical design blends seamlessly into any décor, and with four internal antennas per unit, it promises strong 360-degree Wi-Fi throughout your home.

The Orbi 770 starter pack (router and one satellite) starts at $700, while the three-pack (router and two satellites) costs $1,000. Additional satellites can be purchased for $400 each, ideal for sprawling estates.

For those who don’t require a mesh system, the Netgear Nighthawk RS300 offers a compelling standalone router option. This tri-band router boasts Wi-Fi 7 speeds up to 9.3Gbps, blanketing an area of up to 2,500 square feet and supporting up to 100 devices. It features a pair of 2.5Gbps LAN ports for wired connections, with the option to link two 1Gbps LAN ports for even faster NAS device connections (up to 2Gbps).

A built-in USB thumb drive allows for easy file sharing, and a convenient app lets you manage your network settings. The Nighthawk RS300 is priced at $330, a significantly more affordable option compared to the flagship RS700S.

The three routers from the company that have been listed include Honor X3, Honor X3 Pro, and Honor Wi-Fi 6+. However, there’s nothing known about these products and the listing has a placeholder pricing.

From the image shared by the company’s president, it seems that Honor could also launch a new Honor Smart Screen as well as a tablet at the same launch event. But we are yet to get any confirmation regarding this.

It’ll be interesting to see what products the company has up its sleeves for the 18th May launch event. Just a couple of days after the Honor Smart Life event for smart connected devices, the company will be launching Honor X10 5G smartphone on 20th May.

A few weeks ago, Huawei had launched two new routers – the Huawei AX3 and AX3 Pro – both of which are claimed to be the world’s first Wi-Fi 6+ routers. The company is touting high speed gains and better coverage with its new lineup of Huawei AX3 series routers. Along with that, the company also launched the 5G CPE Pro 2 router that supports dual-mode 5G (NSA + SA) connectivity.

But another field where the company excels is the telecommunications/router market; as a report from Omdia (formerly IHS Markit, known analytics and research institute) has revealed that its routers are leading the global carrier market for 2019.

According to the Omdia report, Huawei has maintained its dominance in the router market since 2018. This marks the second year in a row that the company achieved the top spot. Similarly, in the backbone router market, Huawei has maintained the top position for three consecutive years as well. Furthermore, 2019 also marked the first time Huawei routers took to top seat in the metro router market, making Huawei the No 1 in the global carrier market in the world.

For those unaware, Huawei is a pioneering figure in the telecommunications industry. It is a leader in 5G networking and its supplementing equipment and technologies, and the continued investments in the field have been the key factor leading to this achievement. Currently, the company is also working with various governments from across the globe that is adopting the newer faster bandwidth.

Editor’s Pick: Realme 6, 6 Pro with 90Hz display, Snapdragon 720G and 30W fast charging launched with Rs. 12,999 (~$175) starting price

Omdia’s report specifically brings up the customer centric approach Huawei has in the market. Other notable phrases used to describe the company’s success included its innovative products, next generation protocols and solutions and more. The dominance in the router field has also been accredited to various growths in the 5G networking and cloud computing fields.

The NetEngine 8000 series from Huawei is the only router in the industry that supports the E2E 400GE standards. In other words, the company has launched cutting edge routers that have yet to see a viable rival competing against it. This series of routers are capable of handling ten fold increases in traffic while also maintaining affordable per bit costs for large scale businesses.

Simply put, Huawei has been a class leader in this field providing very competitive and viable products to other businesses as well. The company originally started developing routers back in 1995, and the 25 years’ worth of investment in R&D is clearly paying off now. As of right now, Huawei routers are spread across 130 different nations, providing intelligent IP networks and other solutions to various markets.

Xiaomi has highlighted that the Mi AIoT AX3600 Wi-Fi ax router is the first to use an enterprise-grade platform for the consumer market. The chipmaker explains that this platform is “the ideal architecture for retail routers, two-radio mesh networking systems, broadband gateways, as well as enterprise and carrier-class applications.”

The new-age Wi-Fi 6 promises to optimize power consumption and coverage capabilities of a router with support for high-speed concurrent connections. Other benefits of this new-generation connectivity include lower overall latency and high rate of data transmission.
