The handset brings great midrange specifications at an incredibly affordable price, but there are a lot of devices in the same price range. Even Samsung is releasing several handsets in the low-end segment: one of the latest is the Galaxy M12. Does the Redmi 10 Prime offer a higher value for money than the Samsung Galaxy M12 or the latter is a better option for the money asked? This comparison between their specifications will clear your ideas in regards.

Design

The Redmi 10 Prime is undoubtedly the most modern device and the most attractive in terms of design. Unlike the Samsung Galaxy M12 that comes with a waterdrop notch, the Redmi 10 Prime has a punch hole on the display for the front camera. It has narrower bezels around the display and thanks to those, it is a more compact device. The rear design reminds me of the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra, with a gradient color hue and a similar camera module. Both the phones have a side-mounted fingerprint reader for authentication and they are built with polycarbonate. Note that the Redmi 10 Prime has a dust proof and splash proof body, while Samsung Galaxy M12 does not. Do you agree with my opinion or do you think the Samsung Galaxy M12 has a more interesting design?

Display

The specifications of these displays are not so different. The Redmi 10 Prime and the Samsung Galaxy M12 have a display diagonal of 6.5 inches, a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, and a 90 Hz refresh rate. However, the Samsung Galaxy M12 has a PLS panel that is an inferior panel in terms of image quality. Further, the Redmi 10 Prime has the Gorilla Glass 3 protection by Corning which makes the front glass sturdier. Last but not least, the Redmi 10 Prime has stereo speakers instead of a mono speaker, so the audio power is higher.

Hardware/Software

Do you need the most powerful and the fastest phone? Then grab a unit of the Redmi 10 Prime. The Mediatek Helio G88 mobile platform mounted on this device has better CPU and GPU performance, so it can provide you a faster user experience in normal activities and even in gaming sessions. Further, you can get more RAM with the Redmi 10 Prime: its memory configurations offer up to 6 GB of RAM, while Samsung Galaxy M12 provides a max of 4 GB. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy M12 has a processor built with a better production process (8 nm) which consumes a lower amount of energy. The Galaxy M12 also runs One UI Core, an enlightened version of the One UI for low-end devices which provides better performance.

Camera

Despite Samsung produces the best cameras, Redmi 10 Prime has a better camera department. The main sensor is way better with its 50 MP resolution and an f/1.8 focal aperture. Even the ultrawide camera is superior with a resolution of 8 MP. Last but not least, the phone provides a front camera with a brighter focal aperture (f/2.0).

Battery

Redmi 10 Prime and Samsung Galaxy M12 are very good battery phones, but if you want the best, then Redmi 10 Prime is again the winner. Despite the inferior production process of its SoC, the Redmi 10 Prime is able to provide a longer battery life because it has a bigger 6000 mAh battery. It even supports reverse charging, so you can use it as a power bank.

Xiaomi Redmi 10 Prime vs Samsung Galaxy M12: Price

The starting price of the Redmi 10 Prime in the Indian market is Rs. 12,499 / $170, while the Samsung Galaxy M12 is priced at Rs. 11,499 / $156 in its base variant. Given that the Redmi is a way better phone, we recommend you to spend more and get it instead of the Galaxy M12, at least with the actual prices. You will get a stronger chipset, better cameras, and a bigger battery.

Its design looks like the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra, but unlike this awesome flagship, it is a budget phone. Does the Redmi 10 have good competitors or it is the best handset in its category? There are a lot of competitors out there, even if you keep looking at Xiaomi devices. An example is the POCO M2 Reloaded, a renewed variant of the best-selling POCO M2. Even Samsung came up with an awesome budget phone in the same price range: the Galaxy M12. Let’s discover the differences.

Design

My favorite design is the one of the Redmi 10 because it reminds me of a flagship. As stated above, it is similar to the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra, but without its premium materials and without a curved screen. Besides being more attractive, the Redmi 10 is also thinner and lighter than the POCO M2 Reloaded and Samsung Galaxy M12, even though the battery capacity is the same and the display has similar dimensions. Last but not least, it is the only one with a punch-hole display instead of a waterdrop notch.

Display

The presence of the punch-hole display is not the only aspect differentiating the Redmi 10 from its two rivals. With the POCO M2 Reloaded and the Samsung Galaxy M12, you have to choose between a high 90 Hz refresh rate or a Full HD+ resolution. If you want the first, then you’d better go for the Samsung Galaxy M12, but it has an HD+ display while the POCO M2 Reloaded sports a Full HD+ panel (but with a standard refresh rate). With the Redmi 10, you can get both: a Full Hd+ resolution and a 90 Hz refresh rate. Further, it even provides you with stereo speakers.

Hardware/Software

The most powerful chipset belongs to the Redmi 10, providing you with the MediaTek Helio G88 mobile platform and up to 6 GB of RAM paired with 128 GB of native storage. In terms of performance, the POCO M2 Reloaded comes right after with the Mediatek Helio G80 chipset. But the Samsung Galaxy M12 has the best processor in terms of energy consumption: the Exynos 850 built at 8 nm. The top-end memory configuration of the Galaxy M12 offers 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage.

Camera

The Redmi 10 is equipped with the most advanced main camera: a 50 MP sensor with a bright f/1.8 focal aperture. It even offers the best ultrawide camera with an 8 MP resolution. The silver medal goes to the Samsung Galaxy M12 and its 48 MP quad camera system.

Battery

All of these phones come with a battery sporting a capacity of 5000 mAh, but the Samsung Galaxy M12 lasts more on a single charge thanks to a more efficient chipset and lower display resolution.

Credit: Steve/Voice

According to Nils, Samsung Galaxy M12 codenamed “Lottie” will feature triple-cameras with a S5KGM2 48MP primary sensor at the back. Early renders from Onleaks revealed that Galaxy M12 will have a quad-camera setup and an LED flashlight. In fact, Steve had explicitly mentioned that the device would have up to 4 rear lenses.

We aren’t sure who would turn out right here so let’s wait for official confirmation. Anyway, the other rear lenses on the Galaxy M12, as per Nils, will likely be a 13MP ultra-wide(HI1336) and a 2MP Macro(GC02M1)sensors. Upfront, the device will have an 8MP (S5K4HA) sensor for selfies.

It’s worth noting that Nils isn’t completely sure about the ultra-wide just yet so take that with a pinch of salt. Apart from Camera sensors, the report also has leaked what could be the official wallpapers launching with the device.
Interestingly, there’s another model of Samsung getting certified — SM-F12G/DS, which is believed to be named Samsung Galaxy F12 for some regions. However, this is just speculation at this point in time.

It has also been confirmed that both the phones will be running the latest Android 11 operating system out-of-the-box, most likely with the company’s own One UI custom user interface on top. Other than this, nothing else has been revealed by the certificate.

First off, Steve says that Samsung will likely launch the device in early 2021 with Galaxy M12‘ naming. However, he isn’t sure about the naming and says it might vary according to regions. Further, the renders shared by him show the display and a similar rear panel as the earlier leak. It has the same squircle camera layout with four sensors and an LED flash beneath the camera bump.

Plus, the rear shell has a unique dual-textured design with a striped top, and glossy bottom finish resembling Google’s Pixel design but in reverse. The new renders also show the power button with a built-in fingerprint sensor and volume buttons to the right. And a SIM card tray to the left confirming the earlier leak. Additionally, the bottom of the device seems to have USB-C, 3.5mm audio jack, speaker ports.

Galaxy M12 Specifications- Display, Dimensions

Further, according to Steve, the Samsung Galaxy M12 will have a 6.5-inch flat display with an Infinity-V notch. This is different from the earlier rumor of a 6.7-inch display. Steve adds that the device will measure 163.9 x 75.9 x 8.9mm. This suggests the device could have a lesser 8.9mm thickness compared to its predecessor Galaxy M11(9.0mm).

Also, he says that the thickness will increase to 10mm if you count the camera bump. That said, the side fingerprint sensors suggests that the device might have an LCD display to keep the costs low. Besides, considering the track record of Steve, the information above should most likely be true. However, we don’t have any other information about the specs and will only have to play the waiting game.
