With each new release, Samsung has been adding new camera features to its flagship smartphones. However, the company does not just focus on hardware upgrades and also add new features to their older models through software updates. One of the best examples of this is the Samsung Camera Assistant app. However, the latest news seems to disappoint users a bit.

Over the past year, the Galaxy S22 series received support for Expert RAW, watermark features, Astronomical Hyperlapse, and more. The latest Galaxy S23 also comes with advanced features, with new 360 Audio and 200MP RAW camera shooting capability. Many Galaxy S22 users were expecting these innovations to arrive on their phones through future updates.

However, according to a statement from the head of the camera division on Samsung Community Korea, these plans have been halted due to technical limitations. While no specific reason was given for the absence of 360 Audio support, it was confirmed that there is no plan to introduce this feature to the Galaxy S22. Unfortunately, this situation will cause disappointment among many users, especially those who paid hundreds of dollars for the best Android phone just a year ago, only to face “technical limitations” after just one year.

Samsung is expected to launch the Samsung Galaxy S22 series in the first quarter of next year, with the lineup comprised of the Galaxy S22 Ultra, S22+, and S22. While it was already known that the S22 Ultra would be packing a 108MP primary camera, an industry insider has now tipped the camera specifications of the S22+ and S22 as well.

Ice Universe has shared that both the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ will share identical camera hardware for both the front and back shooters, just like this year’s S21 series.

Both phones will feature a 50MP primary camera with a 1/1.57″ sensor size and f/1.8 aperture. Number two is a 10MP telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture and 1/3.94″ sensor size with support for 3x optical zoom. The last is a 12MP ultrawide angle camera with a 1/2.55″ sensor size and f/2.2 aperture.

Upfront, the Galaxy S22 and S22+ seem to retain the same 10MP selfie shooter found on their predecessors with a pixel size of 1.22µm, sensor size of 1/3.24″, and an aperture of f/2.2.

The tipster has also confirmed the screen sizes of both the models once again stating that the Samsung Galaxy S22 will have a screen size of 6.06-inches while the S22+ will feature a larger 6.55-inch screen. Both models are more compact than this year’s offerings. For comparison, the S21+ has a screen size of 6.7-inches while the S21’s screen is sized at 6.2-inches.

Apart from this, not much is known about the Galaxy S22 series as of now other than them being powered by the Exynos 2200 and Snapdragon 8 Gen1 chips. The mass production of the devices is said to begin next month.
