<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-455920 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Beyond-iPhone-13-Better-Triad.jpg?x44794" alt="Apple" width="1600" height="900" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Beyond-iPhone-13-Better-Triad.jpg 1600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Beyond-iPhone-13-Better-Triad-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Beyond-iPhone-13-Better-Triad-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Beyond-iPhone-13-Better-Triad-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Beyond-iPhone-13-Better-Triad-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Beyond-iPhone-13-Better-Triad-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Beyond-iPhone-13-Better-Triad-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px" /></p>
<p>In a <a href="https://twitter.com/mingchikuo/status/1516729808893648901" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>tweet</em></a>, known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed that the Cupertino based giant&#8217;s 2024 iPhone might be the first smartphone from the brand to feature a full front screen design. So, most of its necessary sensors like the selfie camera and Face ID tech will be housed underneath the display panel. The tweet reads &#8220;I think the real full screen iPhone will come in 2024. High end iPhones in 2024 would adopt an under display front camera alongside the under-display Face ID. A low light condition is detrimental to front camera quality, and ISP &amp; algorithm are critical for quality improvements.&#8221;</p>
<p>Notably, the analyst&#8217;s comments are in line with his previous estimations. He had initially stated that Apple no longer planned to launch an iPhone with under screen Touch ID. So, the alternative to the biometric security feature is the Face ID, which has already replaced Touch ID on most iPhone models. Interestingly, another analyst Ross Youn also claimed that the under display Face ID will be making its way to the iPhone 16 as well.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-341615 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Under-Display-Camera-Featured.jpg?x44794" alt="Apple" width="925" height="620" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Under-Display-Camera-Featured.jpg 925w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Under-Display-Camera-Featured-300x201.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Under-Display-Camera-Featured-768x515.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Under-Display-Camera-Featured-696x467.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Under-Display-Camera-Featured-627x420.jpg 627w" sizes="(max-width: 925px) 100vw, 925px" /></p>
<p>On the other hand, the iPhone 14 series that is set to launch later this year is expected to finally remove the large notch on the front. Now, the 2022 iPhone will feature punch hole cutouts for the necessary sensors for Face ID and the front camera. Keep in mind that the iPhone 16 is still more than two years away so take this report with a pinch of salt for now.</p>

<p>According to tipster <em><a href="https://weibo.com/6734482564/KBsmYocHK?from=page_1005056734482564_profile&amp;wvr=6&amp;mod=weibotime&amp;type=comment" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Bald Panda</a> </em>(Via <a href="https://www.androidauthority.com/xiaomi-mix-fold-upgrade-3035618/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>AndroidAuthority</em></a>), the Chinese tech giant is working on a new MIX Fold series device. However, the new foldable smartphone will be a refresh model rather than a MIX Fold 2. Furthermore, the tipster added that the new refresh version will sport a high refresh rate external and internal screens along with a 120W fast charging support for its large 5,000mAh battery pack.</p>
<p>Notably, the new MIX Fold will reportedly also feature an under display camera module on the front. This is quite a major upgrade over the 67W charging on the original MIX Fold, which also only had high refresh rate for its external screen. The addition of the under display camera is also a significant update, although, its implementation won&#8217;t exactly be an upgrade in terms of image quality.</p>

<p>Unfortunately, it is currently unclear as to when the company will launch such a device or whether it is actually working on this device or not. However, previous reports had suggested that a new foldable phone from the brand will be launching sometime in the fourth quarter of this year. Note that we had also compared the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/08/18/xiaomi-mi-mix-fold-vs-samsung-galaxy-z-fold3-specs-comparison/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Mi MIX Fold and Galaxy Z Fold 3</a>, so you can check that out as well.</p>

Now, the company has just been awarded a new patent for under display cameras for <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/touch-id/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Touch ID</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/face-id/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Face ID</a>.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class=" wp-image-402558 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/6a0120a5580826970c0278803b3996200d-800wi.jpg?x44794" alt="Apple" width="420" height="725" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/6a0120a5580826970c0278803b3996200d-800wi.jpg 800w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/6a0120a5580826970c0278803b3996200d-800wi-174x300.jpg 174w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/6a0120a5580826970c0278803b3996200d-800wi-768x1326.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/6a0120a5580826970c0278803b3996200d-800wi-593x1024.jpg 593w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/6a0120a5580826970c0278803b3996200d-800wi-696x1201.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/6a0120a5580826970c0278803b3996200d-800wi-243x420.jpg 243w" sizes="(max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px" /></p>
<p>The Cupertino based giant had filed the patent with the <a href="https://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect2=PTO1&amp;Sect2=HITOFF&amp;p=1&amp;u=/netahtml/PTO/search-bool.html&amp;r=1&amp;f=G&amp;l=50&amp;d=PALL&amp;RefSrch=yes&amp;Query=PN/11073712" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>USPTO</em></a>, which was regarding camera sensors being embedded under the display. The patent also describes that these sensors will be used for biometric authetication systems, namely Touch ID and Face ID. Apple stated that the current iPhone design has the image sensors be placed next to the display with the notch. But, future generations will arrive with these cameras being housed underneath the display.</p>
<p>The iPhone maker added that this system can be used for both Face ID and Touch ID. Although, employing both security systems together might please more customers. Notably, we had recently also reported on the company <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/07/26/face-id-apple-mac-arrive-in-couple-of-years/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">reportedly planning on bringing Face ID to its Macs</a> as well within the next couple of years. The earlier iterations of the under screen solution had faced a lot of issues like degraded quality, however, improved versions have made it to the commercial market in certain smartphones.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-359706 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/39273-75116-000-lead-Touch-ID-in-screen-xl.jpg?x44794" alt="Apple" width="870" height="485" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/39273-75116-000-lead-Touch-ID-in-screen-xl.jpg 870w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/39273-75116-000-lead-Touch-ID-in-screen-xl-300x167.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/39273-75116-000-lead-Touch-ID-in-screen-xl-768x428.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/39273-75116-000-lead-Touch-ID-in-screen-xl-696x388.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/39273-75116-000-lead-Touch-ID-in-screen-xl-753x420.jpg 753w" sizes="(max-width: 870px) 100vw, 870px" /></p>
<p>Keep in mind that this is still just a patent and we have no way of confirming if the brand is actually working on such a system or is simply covering all bases. If it is being developed, we can expect it to make its way to multiple Apple products like MacBooks and iPads, apart from just the iPhones.</p>

<p>According to a <a href="https://nl.letsgodigital.org/smartphones/microsoft-surface/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>LetsGoDigital</em> </a>report, the American tech giant had opened a vacancy for a &#8216;Principal Android Camera System Architect / Engineer for Surface Development&#8217; back in October 2021. This is indicative of the company&#8217;s aim of improving the camera capabilities of its devices. In the same month, the brand had also filed a patent with the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) regarding this &#8216;Logo Camera&#8217; design for a Surface device. The four cameras in question will be positioned similar to the logo design with each camera having its own color filter.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class=" wp-image-393764 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/microsoft-tablet-1024x782.jpg?x44794" alt="Microsoft" width="583" height="445" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/microsoft-tablet-1024x782.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/microsoft-tablet-1024x782-300x229.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/microsoft-tablet-1024x782-768x587.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/microsoft-tablet-1024x782-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/microsoft-tablet-1024x782-696x532.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/microsoft-tablet-1024x782-550x420.jpg 550w" sizes="(max-width: 583px) 100vw, 583px" /></p>
<p>These four sensors will be placed under the display of the device and are intended for &#8220;mobile computing device, such as a Microsoft Surface device.&#8221; Furthermore, the cameras can display a color icon when the sensor is not in use to display the company&#8217;s logo on the front. So, the device will display the logo by default and switch to the camera when the shutter is activated. This quad camera module is set up in a 2 x 2 array and will enable Microsoft to make the product slimmer since multiple sensors would be comprised of thinner modules.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class=" wp-image-393763 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/surface-camera-1024x740.jpg?x44794" alt="Microsoft" width="565" height="408" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/surface-camera-1024x740.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/surface-camera-1024x740-300x217.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/surface-camera-1024x740-768x555.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/surface-camera-1024x740-324x235.jpg 324w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/surface-camera-1024x740-696x503.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/surface-camera-1024x740-581x420.jpg 581w" sizes="(max-width: 565px) 100vw, 565px" /></p>
<p>The camera will be capable of offering high resolution shots and high pixel density by optimizing each sensor for one particular color. In other words, one sensor will be solely for Blue, while another will be used for Green, Red, and Yellow. Unfortunately, the patent doesn&#8217;t reveal what kind of device the logo camera will be housed in, but the Surface lineup includes laptops, 2 in 1 PCs, and even Android tablets. For those interested, LetsGoDigital&#8217;s in house designed <a href="https://www.youtube.com/snoreyn/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Giuseppe Spinelli</a> has even offered a number of product renders that feature this unique camera system.</p>

This is successor the company&#8217;s first under display camera technology and arrive with various improvements.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-372725 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/20210223_141219_883.jpeg?x44794" alt="ZTE" width="971" height="684" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/20210223_141219_883.jpeg 971w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/20210223_141219_883-300x211.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/20210223_141219_883-768x541.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/20210223_141219_883-100x70.jpeg 100w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/20210223_141219_883-696x490.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/20210223_141219_883-596x420.jpeg 596w" sizes="(max-width: 971px) 100vw, 971px" /></p>
<p>For those unaware, the Mobile World Congress is a major event where various tech giants arrive to showcase their new and innovative technology. At the moment, various companies have announced their breakthroughs in fields like 5G, artificial intelligence, smart home, smart travel, and other innovations. ZTE also held a conference in the event, and unveiled its second generation of under display camera screen technology. The first device to feature the new type of display was the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/zte-axon-20-5g/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Axon 20 5G</a>, which launched last year.</p>
<p>Since then, the company has made improvements to the new display technology, with one of the primary upgrades being pixel density on the camera region. While the first iteration arrived with a 200ppi pixel density, the second generation display panel features 400ppi pixel density. In other words, the screen will be able to display sharper and clearer images. Furthermore, the company also aimed at delivering a more consistent display performance on the main screen.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-372726 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/20210223_141219_992.jpeg?x44794" alt="ZTE" width="1049" height="877" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/20210223_141219_992.jpeg 1049w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/20210223_141219_992-300x251.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/20210223_141219_992-768x642.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/20210223_141219_992-1024x856.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/20210223_141219_992-696x582.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/20210223_141219_992-502x420.jpeg 502w" sizes="(max-width: 1049px) 100vw, 1049px" /></p>
<p>Another notable improvements is on the refresh rate of the panel, as the new screen features a 120Hz refresh rate. This is higher than the 90hz seen on the first generation under display camera technology from ZTE. During the event, the company also demonstrated the world&#8217;s first under screen 3D structured light technology. This will enable 3D face recognition and live detection, which is better than the various existing 2D solutions. Meaning, it is currently one of the most strongest and safest biometric technology that can also be used for 3D modeling, augmented reality, and other applications as well.</p>

<p>Recently, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung-display/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Samsung Display</a> posted a video on <a href="https://redirect.viglink.com/?key=eb2a339ada55034330f10e63d50e9cf6&amp;u=http%3A%2F%2Fweibointl.api.weibo.com%2Fshare%2F195887625.html&amp;type=ap&amp;loc=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.androidcentral.com%2Fsamsung-teases-its-first-under-display-camera-its-not-coming-phones%3Famp%26utm_source%3Dac_tw%26utm_medium%3Dtw_card%26utm_content%3D98370%26utm_campaign%3Dsocial%26__twitter_impression%3Dtrue&amp;ref=" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>Weibo</em></a>, a Chinese microblogging website, that teased its new OLED panels that feature an under display selfie shooter. This video was shared by known leakster Ice Universe on Twitter. However, the OLED panels that house the new camera technology aren&#8217;t for smartphones, rather, it appears to be arriving in the company&#8217;s upcoming new notebooks first.</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/14/honor-magicbook-launch-18-january/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Honor MagicBook laptops powered by Intel 11th-Gen processors to launch next week</a></strong></h6>
<p>Looking at the video shared online, Samsung is using its under display camera technology on the new OLED panels, which allows the laptops to have minimal bezels on all sides and achieve a screen to body ratio of 93 percent. Notably, the OLED panel is also thin, measuring in at just 1mm and weighing just 130 grams. At the moment, Samsung Display has yet to reveal any finer details regarding the new technology. So, it is also unclear which notebook would feature the South Korean tech giant&#8217;s &#8220;Blade Bezel&#8221; screens.</p>

<p>Ni Fei who was appointed as ZTE’s President of Mobile Devices <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/06/16/ni-fei-becomes-the-president-of-zte-mobile-devices-will-continue-to-lead-nubia/">in June</a> took to Weibo today to confirm that ZTE will launch the world’s first smartphone with under display camera technology. <p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/zte-axon-10-pro-5g">ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5G</a> flagship that went official earlier this year has an A2020 model number. Hence, the SRRC certified A2021 could be the Axon 20 5G phone. At present, there is no word on the specs of the device.</p>
<p>As far as the under display camera technology is concerned with Axon 20 5G is concerned, ZTE is likely to make use of China-based Visionox’s solution. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/07/08/visionox-oleds-500-million-huawei-xiaomi-smartphones-under-display-camera-to-launch-soon/">Last month</a>, Visionex confirmed that it has started the mass production of its under display camera solution and phones featuring will be debuting soon.</p>
