The sister companies Oppo and Vivo just came up with two new mid-range devices focused on the quality-price ratio: Vivo X21s and Oppo RX17 Neo. They can be considered a middle way between mid-rangers and upper-midrange devices and they can provide very nice performances even though their price is all but excessive. Today, we compare them with Nokia X7, the best HMD Global’s upper-midrange device also known in Europe as Nokia 7.1 Plus. Which is the best smartphone of the trio? Let’s go find out.

Vivo X21s vs Oppo RX17 Neo vs Nokia X7 (7.1 Plus)

Design

Vivo X21s and Oppo RX17 Neo have a similar design and it is impressive in both cases. They have a very high screen-to-body ratio thanks to narrow bezels and a waterdrop notch, as well as gradient color variants, while Nokia X7 is less attractive with its thicker bezels. If you like to have a reflective glass back with light waves, you will love the Oppo RX17 Neo more, while if you want the highest screen-to-body ratio, Vivo X21s is for you

Display

With its higher screen-to-body ratio and the Super AMOLED technology, Vivo X21s has the most convincing display among these devices. However, the viewing quality is more or less the same as the Oppo RX17 Neo, so if you choose the RX17 Neo you will just lose the X21s’ thinner bezels. Nokia X7 has a typical midrange-class IPS panel, and it is inferior to its opponents.

Hardware & Software

While you should definitely go for Vivo X21s or Oppo RX17 Neo when it comes to design, Nokia X7 offers the best hardware side thanks to the more powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset. If you exclude the Snapdragon 8xx series, the Snapdragon 710 is the best Qualcomm’s SoC and it is paired with up to 6 GB of RAM on the Nokia X7. Vivo X21s and Oppo RX17 Neo have a customized user interface, while Nokia X7 comes with the stock Android One which will be treated with faster updates.

Camera

All of these devices are equipped with very nice cameras, even though they can not compete with the most important flagships. Whichever you choose, you will get a good camera phone, but Nokia X7 attracts me more and I think it is able to click more interesting shots with its Zeiss optics and OIS.

Battery

There is just a bunch of mAh of difference between the batteries of these handsets, so do not expect big differences in their battery life. Oppo RX17 Neo has the biggest battery, but we have to see how good the company optimized it on the software side to give a final verdict about which device is better.

Price

While Vivo X21s and Oppo RX17 Pro are both available with a starting price tag of about €350, Nokia X7 was launched with a more affordable price of €250. That is why it wins this comparison: besides having better performance and a very nice camera, it has a higher value for money.

Vivo has announced the Vivo X21s smartphone in China. It is a new variant of the Vivo X21 smartphone that was unveiled in March this year. The Vivo X21s is fueled by Snapdragon 660 and it features a waterdrop notch screen. Like the X21 phone, the X21s also features an in-screen fingerprint reader.

Vivo X21s Specifications and Features

The Vivo X21s handset that features a 3D glass rear measures 157.1 x 75.08 x 7.9mm and weighs 156 grams. The smartphone is fitted with a 6.41-inch Super AMOLED screen that produces Full HD+ resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels. The small notch on the screen allows the phone to support an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The fourth generation in-display fingerprint scanner is present on the device.  The IR camera springs into action to support facial recognition in dark.

The Snapdragon 660 AIE chipset powers the Vivo X21s along with 6 GB of RAM. It has an inbuilt storage of 128 GB. It comes with support for microSD card.

The FunTouch 4.5 UI is overlaid on the Android 8.1 Oreo OS that comes preinstalled on the X21s. Vivo’s Dual-Turbo technology that accelerates the CPU and GPU performance while gaming is also available on the phone. Other features made available on the phone by the Chinese manufacturer include Jovi AI assistant and Game Mode. The 3,400mAh battery carries support for dual-engine flash charging.

The frontside of the Vivo X21s is fitted with a 24.8-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture. The backside of the phone features a vertical dual camera setup that includes f/1.8 aperture 12-megapixel main sensor that is coupled with f/2.4 aperture 5-megapixel secondary sensor. The dual rear cameras are equipped with features like AI beauty technology, AI scene recognition and AI portrait mode. The front camera supports studio lighting effects for capturing impressive selfie shots. The connectivity features of the Vivo X21s are 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, microUSB 2.0 and 3.5mm audio jack.

Vivo X21s Pricing and Availability

The Vivo X21s comes in two color gradient variants such as Starry Night Black and Millennium Pink. The handset carries a price tag of 2,498 Yuan (~$360) in China. There is no information available on the release date of the smartphone.

Vivo had launched the Vivo X21 smartphone equipped with Snapdragon 660 chipset and in-display fingerprint scanner in March this year. Fresh images of a new variant of the phone called Vivo X21s have been leaked. Moreover, the entire specifications of the smartphone have been listing on China Telecom website along with its pricing. The carrier listing of the phone also states that it will be releasing soon in the home market.

The Vivo X21s images show that the smartphone will arriving with an in-screen fingerprint reader and a waterdrop notch. In comparison, the Vivo X21 phone that was unveiled earlier this year featured a larger notch on its display.

The display of the Vivo X21s is surrounded by slim bezels except for the slightly thick chin. One of the images also reveal that the X21s has a model number of V1814. The smartphone is loaded with Android 8.1 Oreo OS with FunTouch OS UI placed over it. The Snapdragon 660 chipset with a clocking speed of 1.95 GHz powers the smartphone along with 6 GB of RAM.

Vivo is yet to confirm on the existence of the Vivo X21s smartphone. However, its V1814A/T model number have been already spotted with full specifications on China’s TENAA telecom authority. Also, the handset has appeared on the website of China Telecom with its entire specs, pricing and release date.

According to the China Telecom listing of Vivo X21s, the handset features a plastic body. The waterdrop notched screen of the phone produces Full HD+ resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. It includes a 3,330mAh battery, but there is no confirmation on whether it carries support for rapid charging.

In terms of optics, the smartphone is equipped with a vertical dual camera setup with 12-megapixel and 5-megapixel sensors. For capturing selfies, the handset features an 8-megapixel camera inside its notch.

The Vivo X21s is listed in two colors such as Millennium Pink and Starry Night Black on China Telecom’s website. The listing reveals that the smartphone will be hitting the market on Nov. 15. If the date is true, Vivo may announce the smartphone in the next few days. The handset is expected to cost 2,798 Yuan (~$405) in China.
