Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series phones offer somewhat similar features and specifications across the globe, at least at the hardware end. However, there are some features that are locked by the OEMs for the respective country or region despite having the appropriate hardware. Similarly, the VoLTE and VoWiFi features are locked in some regions for Pixel 6 and later devices. Here’s a guide to enable VoLTE/VoWiFi on Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series without any root access in unsupported regions.

The method is developed by a Korean Developer named Kyujin Cho who also posted the PixelIMS app on GitHub for easy activation. Although the app was created for the Korean carrier – LG U+, users from various other regions, such as Vodafone Albania, Telcel in Mexico, Chile, Austria, Orange Romania, China Mobile, Hungary, etc. have reported success in using the app.

If you’re also among such users who have imported devices from some other country and now your home carrier is unable to register your device as VoLTE and VoWiFi services capable. Then, make sure to follow the few steps below and enable these features on your Pixel 6 and later devices.

Prerequisites:

There are a few things that you might need to make VoLTE and VoWifi workable on your Pixel devices.

Note: The below method only works for the Google Pixel 6, Pixel 6a, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro.

1. Make sure you have Windows, macOS, or Linux PC/Laptop
2. Download and Install Android ADB Tools for the respective OS.
3. A USB Type-C cable for connecting the Pixel device to PC.

Before wasting any further time, let’s proceed with the steps to patch Pixel devices with the fix to enable VoLTE and VoWifi in unsupported regions.

Steps to enable VoLTE and VoWiFi on Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 in Unsupported Regions

It is an easy and straightforward process that the user can easily execute, but make sure to follow each step carefully.

1. Install and open the Shizuku app on your Pixel smartphone.
2. Now, Connect your smartphone to your PC via a USB Cable
3. Open the folder where you’ve installed or downloaded the Android ADB Tools, and open PowerShell or Command Prompt by pressing the Right Click+ Shift key. (Guide to Connect Phone – Shizuku Website )
4. Now type the following command to start Shizuku service:
   adb shell sh /sdcard/Android/data/moe.shizuku.privileged.api/start.sh
5. You will see this output if you’re phone is connected to your PC:
   
6. Now, Download the PixelIMS app and Install it on your smartphone. (Note: Currently v1.2.0 is the latest, make sure to check the repository for the latest version and install it.)
7. Open the app, and “Allow all the time” permission for Shizuku.
   
8. Toggle “Enable VoLTE” to enable VoLTE, and toggle “Enable VoWiFi” for VoWiFi.
   
9. Voila! Restart your device a few times, and both services will start working.

5G is being rolled out in countries all around the world and users are able to experience near gigabit speeds on their smartphones. But 5G was designed to bring about a more comprehensive upgrade to devices which includes significant improvements in voice and video calls too. VoNR (Voice over New Radio) is the next-generation version of VoLTE (Voice over LTE) and OPPO, in partnership with MediaTek and Ericsson has conducted the first VoNR Voice and Video call.

The current 5G networks are built around the existing 4G LTE infrastructure (Non-standalone networks). So your smartphones with 5G data support still use VoLTE for voice calls. However, network operators will soon start deploying SA (Standalone) network architecture for 5G networks which allows carriers and device makers to enable VoNR calls. OPPO’s official press release stated that the VoNR call made with its customized Dimensity 1000L smartphone (likely Reno3) had significantly “lower latency, improved sound quality and picture quality”. The company added that this will eventually lead to an “elevated overall experience for users”.

The 5G VoNR call was successfully carried out under a 5G SA network provided by Ericsson at its headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden. OPPO adds that “after dialing, the two phones connected almost instantly and then seamlessly switched to a high-definition video call with a single keypress”.

OPPO has become one of the first smartphone brands to successfully test VoNR services on its smartphone. With network operators all set to deploy 5G over SA architecture in the second half of 2020, VoNR should become an important feature of 5G phones in the coming years.

Just a few weeks after the launch of the Xiaomi Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus, pictures of a new Xiaomi phone have leaked online. The new phone which features an all-metal black body is said to be a new Redmi phone, though some say it might be the Xiaomi Mi 5c.

The front of the phone is fitted with a 2.5D glass and appears to feature the same fingerprint groove as the Mi 5s which means it may come with an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner.

The back has a dual tone black coating with the top part that houses the camera, LED flash, and the antenna; and the lower part, having a darker shade of black compared to the rest of the body. .The camera is placed at the top left corner of the phone beside the flash. The phone keeps the power button and volume rocker on the left like all the new Xiaomi phones.

One of the images leaked includes the about phone section of the phone. There’s 3GB of RAM on board, 64GB of storage, and an octa-core processor clocked at 2.2GHz. It’s also running Android Marshmallow 6.0 based on MIUI 8. The funny thing about the image is the security patch which is dated December 2015 which is pretty old. The page also lists that the phone supports VoLTE.

The images were posted on Weibo by a user whose account name translates to @jumping cute tiger with an accompanying text saying it’s a new Redmi phone with a Mediatek Helio P20 chip and 3GB of RAM priced like the Mi 5s.

The base version of the Xiaomi Mi 5s starts at 1999 Yuan ($300) and features a Snapdragon 821 processor. No one will pick a phone with a Helio P20 phone over a Snapdragon 821 phone selling at the same price. So we want to believe that price is just a wild guess.

There are no details on release date yet and there are still a lot of unknown features yet, but once we have more information, we’ll update you.

Lenovo had so much fun and lots of devices to showcase at IFA Berlin 2016 judging from a video uploaded on their twitter page. While the highlight of their launch was the Yoga Book, the company launched a bunch of new phones too albeit with little or no fanfare. Some of the phones launched include the Lenovo K6, Lenovo K6 Power, and Lenovo K6 Note. You should check them out if you haven’t. Two other phones the company launched are the (Lenovo Vibe) P2 and Lenovo A Plus.

Lenovo P2

First spotted a month ago at a trade event in China, the Vibe P2 is the successor to last year’s Vibe P1 which launched with a large 5000mAh battery. The Lenovo Vibe P2  ups the battery game with an additional 100mAh (5100mAh). There’s a 5.5” full HD display, Android 6.0, 3GB of RAM, 32GB ROM, Snapdragon 625 SoC, a 13MP rear camera supplied by Sony, and a 5MP camera up front for selfies.

If you are a lover of fingerprint scanners placed in front, Lenovo has got you covered with the P2 but it doesn’t seem like it will double as a home button like you have it on the Vibe P1, since it now uses on-screen buttons.

Lenovo says the Vibe P2 has fast charging but we can’t confirm if it is Quick Charge 2.0 or Quick Charge 3.0 until we get our hands on it. There is also going to be a 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM version released in China which may be called Vibe P2 Turbo, since the Vibe P1 Turbo is the P1 with more RAM. Price details have also not been released yet.

Lenovo A Plus

Want a cheap 4G LTE phone with VoLTE support? Look no further, The Lenovo A Plus has you covered, though you will have to sacrifice a couple of things such as the screen which is a 4.5” FWVGA (480 x 854) display, the front camera which is a measly 2MP, and the 2000mAh battery. Other specs are a 1.3GHz MT6580 chip, a 5MP rear camera, 8GB of storage, and SD card slot. The Lenovo A Plus is priced at €69 ($77/514 Yuan) for the single SIM variant and €79 ($88/588 Yuan) if you want an extra SIM slot.
