Xiaomi Mi 11 was first announced in January this year and has been on sale since then. The sales have been pretty impressive especially as the company released it as a single variant. The Mi 11 Ultra and Mi 11 Pro were only launched recently. Thus, most users who upgraded to Xiaomi’s latest flagship likely own the Mi 11.

However, the flagship device has been plagued with a few minor issues which thankfully affected just a few users. Recently, we reported the burnt motherboards issue lodged by some users in China. A new complaint is now springing up from Mi 11 users in China. Some users have complained that their WiFi module abruptly stopped working for no reason.

The issue apparently affects not just one but a large number of users. But there are several others who say their Mi 11 Wifi module works just fine. This is perhaps why the company is yet to say anything about the issue. The Mi 11 is one of the first models to launch with the Snapdragon 888 chipset and there have been complaints before now of excessive hotness sometimes, high power consumption, and lower battery life.

Several reasons have been adduced by netizens as to why the issue popped up. A widely held view is that it is caused by serious flaws in the motherboard design. While some believe it is a production defect, some say the motherboard may have been affected by the overheating issue which may have soldered the WiFi module to the motherboard. However, a tech geek countered this by saying that chips are soldered using a high-temperature tin with a melting point close to 300 degrees. While the CPU heats up to more than 100 degrees during extreme use, it is unlikely to cause false soldering.

Further, the WiFi and Bluetooth modules are integrated on the same chip and so, if this chip is burned it should affect both the WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity instead of just the WiFi. Thus, this may be a production issue affecting a certain batch of the Mi 11 and if it is really a design issue, Xiaomi may need to recall the batch.

What makes this even more interesting is reports that posts with contents relating to this issue on the official Xiaomi community have begun to be blacklisted and deleted by the moderators. There is precedence to this sort of behavior but that will definitely not kill the matter. We expect Xiaomi to come out with an official statement instead of trying to silence complainants.

Xiaomi took the wraps off the Mi 11 for the global market a couple of days back and from the look of things, the company is intent on ramping up sales in an unprecedented manner. Days after the launch, a video, and pictures of the Mi 11 promotional adverts lighting up three major landmarks across several cities around the world have appeared.

The promotional ad was spotted adorning the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). Other landmarks lit up by Mi 11 adverts include BFI IMAX in London and the Central World Shopping Centre in Bangkok.

The adverts are a reflection of the brand’s determination to expand its tentacles into new markets in Europe and Asia. These markets used to be Huawei’s stronghold but since the Chinese tech leader was placed on the US entity list, its market shares have dropped drastically. Xiaomi is hoping to profit from Huawei’s slump and there is good reason to aspire for such.

Xiaomi has got the product quality to fill Huawei’s shoes and the Mi 11 is well-positioned for that task. The phone is moderately priced, starting at 749 Euros (~RMB 5,820) for the 8GB+128GB while the 8GB+256GB is priced at 799 Euros (~RMB 6,210).

Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun says the unveiling of the Mi 11 ad on three major landmarks across the world is a reflection of the global strength of Xiaomi and the confidence to enter the overseas high-end market.

The Mi 11 is already on sale in China with over 1 million units sold during the first 21 days. This ranks it as the fastest high-end flagship phone in the history of Xiaomi’s mobile phone. We expect the global sales to also shatter several records considering its affordable pricing when compared with rival products like the Galaxy S21 series and iPhone 12.

Xiaomi took the wraps off the flagship Mi 11 for the global market a few days back. The sole Mi flagship has now made an early appearance on JerryRigEverything’s durability test. The test gives us a hint as to the structural strength which the flagship possesses. Sure the Mi 11 looks good on paper and going by reviews, including ours, it sure looks incredibly good in real life.

The durability test, as usual, includes the scratch, burn and bend tests, all aimed at testing the physical strength of the display and entire fuselage. It begins with the scratch test and the phone scratches at level 6 with deeper grooves at level 7, thanks to the Gorilla Glass Victus slapped on top of the display. The sides of the phones are also made of metal and not plastic as noted on the scratch test. Also, the back panel is made from glass since the phone supports wireless charging. The panel scratches at the same level as the front screen even though it is covered by a layer of Gorilla Glass 5 instead of Victus.

The Mi 11’s 6.81-inch FHD+ OLED display is really quick at sensing the finger due to the 480Hz touch sampling rate. It also has other impressive features such as a 120Hz refresh rate. The display panel only withstood 20 seconds of heat from Zack’s lighter in the burn test before the display got a white patch and didn’t fully recover afterward.

The smartphone also doesn’t disappoint on the bend test. Even though it produces a minor creak when bent, the phone didn’t crack or become permanently deformed.

Just a week after Chinese tech giant Xiaomi officially put up the flagship Mi 11 series for sales, the first broken unit has been spotted and it is badly damaged in an awkward manner. The actual owner of the broken device is unknown but the damaged device was posted on the Chinese social app Weibo.

From the picture, it can be seen that the Mi 11 frame is bent backward nearly making an angle of 90 degrees close to the lower part of the camera module. The bend also narrowly missed the power button but resulted in the shattering of the rear glass panel.

Several reasons have been propounded as to what caused the damage with some even suggesting that the user was attempting to transform the device into a foldable phone.

Xiaomi Mi 11 is equipped with Snapdragon 888 chip, the first device to pack Qualcomm’s last flagship SoC. The device also comes with a 2K 120Hz curved screen, 4600mAh battery, supports 55W wired, 50W wireless, and 10W wireless reverse charging. The main camera is a 100MP Samsung HMX sensor, Harman Kardon stereo dual speakers, among other features.

Just like other Xiaomi flagship models, the Mi 11 utilizes a front and rear glass design with an aluminum mid-frame. That isn’t all, the device uses the latest Corning Gorilla Glass Victus which is the strongest glass protection around presently. When Xiaomi officially unveiled the Mi 11 flagship series on December 28, the glitz and glamour that attended the arrival of the sleek, premium flagship was somewhat tainted by the announcement that the device will ship without a charging adapter.

Xiaomi’s decision comes just two months after Apple announced the iPhone 12 series without a charging adapter in the miniaturized retail box. What makes Xiaomi’s decision even surprising is that they had poked fun at Apple alongside Samsung and OnePlus, over the iPhone 12’s adapter removal.

The decision still continues to generate heated debates among Mi fans, many of whom question the sense behind the decision, considering that most buyers will still have to purchase a fast charging adapter separately, anyway. When the Mi 11 went on sale on January 1, only 20,000 persons purchased the “Green Edition” which is without an adapter. Also, an ongoing poll being conducted by Gizmochina shows that most of the respondents think the removal is a bad idea.

Quite a large number of persons who have expressed their thought about this issue think Xiaomi just copycatted Apple. Well, Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun has come out to debunk such notions. The CEO hinted recently in a live broadcast (via) that the idea of ​​not including the charger was initiated by him and wasn’t a copy of what Apple did.

He stated that he had mooted the idea in 2015. Indeed Lei Jun had asked the big question on Weibo in a bid to gather user opinions on the matter. In summary, Xiaomi’s decision is the implementation of an idea conceived five years ago. However, that cannot in any way remove the fact that the move to implement the idea may have been influenced by Apple.

Just as scheduled, Xiaomi Mi 11 officially went on sale for the first time in China at 0:00 on January 1. As the first Snapdragon 888-powered flagship product, the Mi 11 was already the center of attraction in the tech circle. The device also came with an extremely decent price tag, starting at 3999 yuan (~$612) which further beamed the searchlight on the model. As we were already expecting, the first sale turned out to be a reflection of the device’s popularity. Xiaomi’s mobile phone division officially released the first sales report for the Mi 11 at 00:13, just 13 minutes after the first sales commenced. According to the details, its omnichannel sales exceeded 1.5 billion yuan in just 5 minutes. If calculated using the average price of 4,300 yuan, Xiaomi my have sold over 350,000 units of the device.

Already, the device is listed as out of stock on Xiaomi’s official mall despite the company claiming that it is prepared well-enough to maintain stocks of the Mi 11.

As a reminder, the Mi 11 packs a 6.81-inch curved display with a hole in the top left corner of the screen and Corning Gorilla Victus protection. The screen is not only bigger than that of the Mi 10 5G but also sharper as it has a 2K (3200 x 1440) resolution. It also has a 120Hz refresh rate and a 480Hz touch sampling rate.

The phone crams a 4600mAh battery under the hood with support for 55W fast wired charging, 50W fast wireless charging, and 10W reverse wireless charging. It also supports Quick Charge 4+, Quick Charge 3+, and Power Delivery 3.0.

The 5nm Snapdragon 888 chipset powers the device and is paired with 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 high-speed storage. There is also an in-display fingerprint scanner, which Xiaomi says can also measure your heart rate in addition to unlocking your phone and authorizing payments. There are stereo speakers tuned by Harman Kardon, dual nano-SIM support, NFC, IR blaster, enhanced WiFi 6, and Bluetooth 5.2 with Qualcomm TrueWireless Stereo Plus. It runs MIUI 12 based on Android 11 out of the box.

The Xiaomi Mi 11 has three rear cameras. The main camera is a 108MP 1/1.33″ sensor with an f/1.85 aperture, a 7P lens, and a 1.6μm pixel size. There is a 13MP super wide-angle lens with a 123° field of view and the third camera is a 5MP 50mm telephoto macro camera. The front-facing camera is a 20MP sensor.

It made special analysis and made improvements on the Mi 11 to offer an improved overall experience for its customers, as per an ITHome report. According to the senior official, this seamless switching between networks occurs in just milliseconds, which is basically difficult for users to even notice. The company even revealed certain scenarios of this being useful like:

• Entering or leaving the range of a saved WiFi network and switching to mobile data.
• Switching to mobile data when the WiFi signal is too weak. Example: the user walking towards his backyard to make a video call.
• Another scenario where the feature helps is in offices or homes that have multiple WiFi routers. Switching between networks based on speed and connectivity strength is made possible through Multi link 5.0.

Xiaomi is expected to launch the flagship Mi 11 on December 29 according to rumors. The flagship is expected to debut as the first Snapdragon 888-powered smartphone. Before now, a couple of leaks have emerged giving some hint of what to expect. The Mi 11 has now appeared on the GeekBench database.

The device is listed on GeekBench with the model number Xiaomi M2011K2C which is the same model number with which it was listed on 3C and on China’s network certification website earlier this month.

The Xiaomi Mi 11 GeekBench listing shows the device will run on Android 11 which will definitely be based on MIUI 12. The device will also be powered by a processor codenamed ARM venus which is the Snapdragon 888. The Adreno 660 GPU will fire up the graphics. The device is also listed with 12GB of RAM which should be the topmost variant in terms of memory configuration.

Although not listed, the high-end variant will likely have 512GB storage onboard. Rumour also has it that the high-end variant will feature a Samsung 2K AMOLED screen and have support for 120Hz refresh rate. The high-end version is also expected to support 120W ultra-fast flash charging.

In terms of core configuration, in addition to the Snapdragon 888 flagship processor, the Mi 11 is also expected to get an 8GB RAM variant and will equally have support for 55W fast charging.

In terms of the camera, the device will have a triple camera setup on the back along with an LED flashlight. This is horizontally stacked inside a squircle housing. As per the concept renders, the layout will also have a Blue Gradient color with a chamfered bump. The triple-camera array will likely have a 108MP main camera, 13MP ultra-wide, and a 5MP macro sensor.

We exclusively brought you a report that the Mi 11 series may be launched in China on December 29. Before now, there have been several leaks concerning the Mi 11 flagship including leaked renders of the device showing the from and fear designs.

We have come across the first camera sample shot by the Mi 11. Xiaomi’s Redmi Product Director Wang Teng Thomas today published a Weibo post that contained a picture of the snowy night scene of Xiaomi Technology Park. Some internet users discovered that Wang Teng’s Weibo post did not reveal the model used to publish the post. Now, Mr Thomas’ previous Weibo posts were posted using the Redmi Note 9. Based on this, it is speculated that the Redmi product director may have already started using the Mi 11 flagship series.

Also, the product director responded with a grinning face emoji when a netizen made a comment about the missing phone model. This is seen as an indication that he is actually using an unannounced Xiaomi model and that should the Mi 11. The night screen camera sample is also pretty impressive but it is far from certain that the Mi 11 captured the scenery.

At present, Xiaomi Mi 11 has been approved by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. It uses a curved punch-hole screen while the front camera is located in the upper left corner. This is consistent with the hole-punch position of the Mi 10‘s display.

In terms of core configuration, the Mi 11 is expected to be the first flagship powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 888 processor and it will have support for 55W fast charging. In addition, the leaked render shows that the Mi 11 will feature a rear camera housed in a square-shaped module. The rear camera is a triple camera setup and the main camera is expected to support OIS (optical image stabilization).

It is worth noting that the Mi 11 series is expected to have a Pro version with a resolution of 2K+, AMOLED screen, and a high refresh rate of at least 120Hz. Digital Chat Station had earlier hinted that the Mi 11 screen quality is topnotch.

The Mi 11 flagship models are expected to be announced on December 29 but we expect the device to be released in January 2021.
