Last month we wrote about the shortage of Xiaomi’s Mi Band 2 which led to some major malls selling it at prices higher than normal.  To curb this, the CEO of Xiaomi, Lei Jun, and Mr. Huang Wang who heads Huami, the company producing the band, mentioned that production for the smartband will double but might not still be enough to meet the high demand.

News reaching us today says the Mi Band 2 will go on open sale in October so that customers can buy all they want when they want it. October is still a long time from now, so customers who wish to wait will have to be extremely patient. Presently, the smartband is not even available on Xiaomi’s website. The Mi Band 2 has an OLED display, is IP67 certified, has a 20-day battery and costs 149 Yuan.

On a side note, owners of the Xiaomi Mi 5 can now pay for bus and train fares using their phones built-in NFC chip. The service is however limited to Shanghai and Shenzen for now.
