Meizu Pro 6 Plus Official: A True Flagship With Exynos 8890, Quad HD Display & More

by Joe 27

This year, Meizu has been giving us devices which have been good, but not too impressive. This changes with the new Meizu Pro 6 Plus. The company has finally unveiled a flagship worthy of our attention and the new device makes sure that everything we expect from a top flagship phone is taken care of.

It’s actually quite surprising that Meizu managed to keep the Pro 6 Plus under wraps for so long. But our wait for a powerful Meizu flagship in 2016 is now over. Read on to find out why.

The Meizu Pro 6 Plus comes with the powerful Exynos 8890 octa-core chip. Meizu and Samsung have had a very close relationship in the past and the company has renewed its ties this year with its new flagship. We all know how powerful and efficient the Exynos 8890 chip really is and it’s great to see it inside a Meizu device. This powerful chip along with the 12 core Mali-T880 MP12 GPU will make sure that all your graphic needs are met that too without the problem of overheating. In fact, in the conference, Meizu revealed that 30 minutes of NBA2K16 heated up the Pro 6 Plus to just 42.6 degrees celsius, which was much less compared to a Snapdragon 821 powered flagship whose temperature rose up to 47.7 degrees celsius.

The display on the Meizu Pro 6 Plus beautiful, thanks to the 5.7-inch 2K Super AMOLED panel. It further boasts of AOD (Always On Display) technology which will show essential details without having to physically turn on the screen. The phone also comes with pressure sensitive 3D Touch technology. So, overall, it’s a great display!

The camera on the Meizu Pro 6 Plus is great, featuring the 12MP Sony IMx386 sensor with 6P lens, laser focus, PDAF, four axis OIS, and ring flash. Further, Meizu reveals that the ISP is from Samsung and both the companies have worked together to debug the camera onboard, which nearly took 203 days. The company even compared the samples on the Pro 6 Plus with the iPhone 7, which you can check out below.

Meizu has always made sure that its home button up front is multi-functional and apart from the great fingerprint sensor embedded in the button which unlocks in 0.15s, it also functions as a heart rate monitor, revealing your heart rate in just 5 seconds.

The phone also features Hi-Fi custom ad45275 op amp chip and upgraded SoLo amp circuit (2nd gen), making sure that you have great quality audio on the device. Other features include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and NFC.

Inside the slim 7.3mm body, the Meizu Pro 6 Plus features a 3400mAh battery. Thanks to the 8V/ 3A charging (24W) the phone can charge this device up to 60% in just 30 minutes, which is amazing.

    No IR-port?
    LTE Band 20?
    Weight?

Pro Plus is a stupid name by the way.

    • h2oz

It should sport an IR blaster and the LTE should be “global”, thus supporting Band 20. Weight is claimed to be 158g.

      My best regards.

      • njren

How do you know it’s “global”? Meizu never lists bands on their website; only which 2G-3G-4G services from the Big 3 carriers in China the phone can support. In this case, the Pro 6 Plus is China Mobile + China Unicom only. China Telecom isn’t listed because the Exynos doesn’t support CDMA.

        • h2oz

          Dear @njren,

I used the conjunctive just because my “reference” is not sure.

The word “global” is misleading, I should have to use “other than only China”: in my country (Italy) we use also Band 20 for LTE and Exynos supports it (e.g. Samsung S7). Moreover, Meizu is now officially supporting Italy and the Italian references that I have read claimed that this device will support all our LTE bands, Band 20 included.

I do not know what is CDMA, but the Italian references support the idea that Band 20 is supported.

          My best regards.

          • balcobomber25

I’ll actually be surprised if it has Band 20. Meizu’s support for European countries is very limited at best, they are still largely just a Chinese phone and that is where the majority of their sales will happen.

I never thought this phone would happen either so you never know with Meizu, but I wouldn’t get my hopes up if I was you.

          • MaxPower

I saw the headline about Exynos and I suddenly thought of you.
You got it wrong this time 😉

          • balcobomber25

My comments were always based on the comments of Meizu’s own President, who repeatedly said they would never release one.

          • MaxPower

            I’m teasing you lol

          • NextHype

@MaxPower don’t you think he should publicly apologize for his unforgivable mistake ? xD

          • MaxPower

He would never do it lol

          • NextHype

True that ! You should try your famous head-bashing hammer-fist move to force reason upon him xD

          • MaxPower

Lol, i guess you’re referring to my profile picture.

          • NextHype

obviously! social skill at its finest : Bud’s art of arguing ^^

          • h2oz

            Dear @balcobomber25:disqus

As I said, mine is only an “intuition”, I am not sure. Anyway, things change quickly, the statement that their “support is very limited at best” is nowadays misleading: in Italy I can now buy some Meizu devices into physical stores with Italian warranty. For example, I cannot do the same with LeEco/Xiaomi and others that already support Band 20 for some devices. It is likely the case that Meizu is trying to expand itself outside China.

I read some references where it is claimed that Band 20 is supported. I do not know this is true, but 8th December is very close, we will see.

            My best regards.

          • balcobomber25

Mine isn’t an institution it is based on close to a decade of experience with Chinese phones, especially Meizu. Meizu in Italy is very limited, just like Meizu in Spain and the Ukraine. The phones are sold through distributors like Meizumart, which is not owned or operated by Meizu. Over 90% of Meizu’s business takes place in China, other markets are afterthoughts.

  • Peddrig

Does the camera shoot in 4k?

    • h2oz

This Meizu Pro 6 Plus sports the same sensor of Meizu MX6, namely the Sony IMX 386. The Meizu MX6 can shoot 4k video, thus I guess that also Meizu Pro 6 Plus can.

      My best regards.

      • Peddrig

        Thanks!
        Best regards from Germany!

        • h2oz

          Your are welcome.

          My best regards.

  • David

Having MX4 Pro. The firmware support is crap, I am stuck with 4.4.4., anything later is just a rubbish junk including the battery drains, notification errors, bad language support etc.. Promise me clean android for this one with no-hassle updates and I will buy it. Hardware is amazing, but not without the propper firmware back-up.

    • balcobomber25

This phone will ship with Flyme.

    • Rick

Try the Beta’s, like 5.6.9.20, I’m on it and works flawless.

  • NextHype

Finally ! Meizu gets its shit together after a crappy year and deliver a real flagship.

    • A lot will depend on what the “over 400 new features” and One Mind AI are and whether they will have a negative impact on performance, user experience, or battery life.

  • Rick

I’ll get one when the price drops to 400$

  • Raky_b

Wrll, we should wait for some reviews, but on papir it looks nice.

  • Q

Is it me only or the camera looks… odd.
