Just last week, Huawei announced that the Mate 10 series would get updated to EMUI 8.1 (Android 8.1 Oreo) in July. In trying to keep to its promise, it announced yesterday that it has begun recruiting beta testers.

The announcement was made via the official EMUI Weibo account and it includes a link to supported versions and instructions on how to enter for the open beta.

If you own any of the following models, you can register for the open beta:

  1. Huawei Mate 10 ALP-AL00
  2. Huawei Mate 10 ALP-TL00
  3. Huawei Mate 10 Pro BLA-AL00 and Mate 10 Porsche Design
  4. Huawei Mate 10 Pro BLA-TL00

Huawei says your phone should not be rooted if you want to join the beta testing program and that your device is currently on version B131. There is also the usual warning about third-party apps compatibility.

Selected beta testers also stand a chance to win gift cards from JD.com worth up to ¥300 (~$46) depending on their contribution and feedback quality during the testing phase.
