As promised, Huawei has today announced a new mid-range smartphone in the Chinese market — Huawei Maimang 7. This is the same smartphone that was recently launched in the UK as the Huawei Mate 20 Lite.

The phone boasts a 6.3-inch Full HD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels) display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio, 2.5D curved glass, and a pixel density of 409ppi. Huawei has opted to offer a notched display, resulting in a higher screen-to-body ratio of 81 percent, compared to the 76.5 percent in its predecessor.

Under the hood, the device is powered by the company’s own Kirin 710 octa-core processor, coupled with Mali-G51 MP4 GPU. This is Huawei’s first 12nm chipset which should offer a significant improvement in power consumption and performance compared to the 16nm Kirin 659.

The chipset consists of four Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.2GHz and four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.7GHz. The GPU is an ARM Mali G5 which is said to be 1.3 times better than that of the Kirin 659 and 1x more energy efficient.

The Huawei Maimang 7 packs 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage and also supports microSD card slot for storage expansion up to 256GB. The phone is running Android Oreo operating system out-of-the-box with the EMUI 8.2 custom interface.

It flaunts a dual-camera setup on the back side, featuring a 20-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor for depth sensing. There’s also a dual-camera setup on the front side, consisting of a 24-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor.

The camera on the phone comes with AI-powered features such as scene recognition, smart photo composition guide, among others. The front-facing camera also supports the Face Unlock feature.

Connectivity options on the device include Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz / 5GHz), Bluetooth 4.2 LE, GPS + GLONASS, and USB Type-C. The device also comes with the GPU Turbo technology that enhances the phone’s performance. The phone is fuelled by a 3,750mAh battery and support fast charging technology.

The Huawei Maimang 7 comes in three color options — Black, Blue, and Gold and is priced at 2,399 yuan, which roughly converts to $349. Currently available for pre-order, the phone will be available for purchase in China from 15 September.
