The Xiaomi Mi 8 SE was launched in May as the first phone with Snapdragon 710 chipset. It is speculated that the Mi 8 Youth Edition that is slated to go official on Sept. 19 in Chengdu, China will be the company’s second phone with Snapdragon 710. However, a leaked image that has surfaced just a day ahead of its launch reveals that it won’t be featuring Snapdragon 710 SoC. Instead, it will be driven by Snapdragon 660.

The Mi 8 Youth Edition will be the first Xiaomi phone to arrive in color gradient options like Twilight Gold and Fantasy Blue. It will be also available in Deep Gray option. The handset was approved by TENAA authority in China earlier in this month. The TENAA listing of Mi 8 Youth Edition had revealed its entire specifications which confirmed that it will be fueled by 2.2 GHz octa-core processor. Hence, it was speculated that the phone could be fueled by Snapdragon 710 SoC. The leaked photo (shown below) that has cropped up today contains the key specs of the phone. It reveals that the phone is powered by Snapdragon 660 which also includes 2.2 GHz octa-core processor.

The Snapdragon 710 is a new chipset built with 10nm manufacturing process. It includes two 2.2 GHz Kryo 360 cores and six 1.7 GHz Kryo 360 cores along with Adreno 616 graphics. The SD170 also includes Cat. 15 LTE modem. On the other hand, the Snapdragon 660 is an older chipset from last year. It is a 14nm SoC that includes four 2.2 GHz Kryo 260 cores and four 1.8 GHz Kryo 260 cores along with Adreno 512 graphics. Its Cat. 12 LTE modem, ISP, DSP and other features are not as good as the new Snapdragon 710.

The other specs that have been confirmed through the leaked photo reveals that the Mi 8 Youth Edition will be featuring AI powered front-facing camera of 24-megapixel. Its frontside will be featuring a 6.26-inch display that will produce Full HD+ resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio.

The TENAA listing of Mi 8 Youth Edition has revealed that it will be coming in 3 GB, 4 GB and 8 GB RAM variants that will respectively feature 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB of internal storage. Other features of the phone include dual 12-megapixel rear cameras, Android 8.1 Oreo, rear-mounted fingerprint reader and 3,000mAh battery. It is expected to get announced with a starting price of 1,999 Yuan (~$290). Tomorrow, Xiaomi will be also announcing Mi 8 Screen Fingerprint Edition alongside the Mi 8 Youth Edition.
