The Google Home Mini finally has a successor but it isn’t called the Home Mini 2 but the Nest Mini. While the name is different, the design hasn’t technically changed.

Nest Mini featured

The Nest Mini has the same round design as the Home Mini. Its dimensions are even the same but that doesn’t mean there are no changes at all.

First, the Nest Mini now has a hole in the back which will let you hang it on a wall. It also comes in a new blue color called Sky alongside the Home Mini’s Coral, Chalk, and Charcoal. Google has also revealed that the fabric covering the speaker is now made from recycled plastic.

Coming to features, the Nest Mini has 40% stronger bass than the Home Mini. It also has better voice recognition. Google has also brought back capacitive buttons which will light up when it senses you are close. You will be able to increase and reduce the volume by tapping the right and left sides as well as pause and resume playing by tapping the middle of the speaker. Of course, the Nest Mini can control your smart home appliances, stream music, play podcasts and answer questions.

The Nest Mini also has an improved “brain” which learns your most frequent commands and allows them to be run locally on the device rather than sending them to Google’s servers first.

The Nest Mini will keep the $49 launch price of the Home Mini but expect it to sell for less during sales. It should also be included as a free gift with certain purchases or subscriptions just like Google has done with the Home Mini in some cases. It will be available for purchase beginning October 22.
