Later today Huawei will hold a launch event in its home country, China where it is expected to announce 5G variants of the Mate 30 lineup and its first foldable smartphone, Mate X whose commercial availability has been long overdue. Hours before the event begins, the photos of the venue have been posted on Twitter which reaffirm the previous statement.

Moreover, ahead of Huawei’s press conference, BOE officials at an investor interaction meet have confirmed that the flexible AMOLED display found on the Mate X is manufactured by them. BOE which is based out of China is currently the largest display supplier in the country. It was also revealed that the company has shipped 10 million flexible OLED panels in the first half of 2019 , with a market share of 18% , ranking second in the world.

Talking more about the foldable Mate X, it first debuted in the month of February at MWC 2019. At that time, the device was equipped with the Kirin 980 SoC, however, the company has since lifted covers from a superior chipset, the Kirin 990. Correspondingly, Huawei has already confirmed that the Mate X will be upgraded to this chipset, ahead of its commercial launch, which is an appreciable move.Huawei Mate X

To recall, the Huawei Mate X has a futuristic design with front glass and rear metal construction. The handset when in its folded state is 11 mm thick and only 5 mm thick when in the unfolded state. It sports an 8-inch flexible display that has a resolution of 2480 x 2200 px and 8:7.1 aspect ratio. However, when in folded state the large display act as two separate front and rear displays. The front display measures 6.6 inch while the rear display measures 6.38 inch.

The Mate X has a Leica optics equipped triple camera setup which is vertically placed on the right edge of the rear of the smartphone. As the device lacks any front camera, the triple rear camera also doubles as the selfie camera. It is powered by two batteries which have a combined capacity of 4500 mAh that present in either half of the handset. It also supports 55 W fast charging.
